To meet this challenge, we propose a background subtraction method based on online robust principal component analysis (OR-PCA). We downsample every input frame in a random manner to make the OR-PCA applicable to video processing. Different from most background subtraction methods which rely on pixel-based background models, our method utilizes the low-dimensional subspace constructed by backgrounds of previous frames to estimate background of a new input frame, and hence can well handle the camera jitter. We find that the resulting sparse matrix contains not only the foreground objects but also some sparse noise, and then eliminate the sparse noise to improve the precision of our method. Experimental results demonstrate that, our method achieves remarkable results and outperforms several advanced methods in dealing with the camera jitter.","PeriodicalId":407093,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 7th International Conference on Awareness Science and Technology (iCAST)","volume":"180 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115430633","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

More importantly, the proposed algorithm takes full advantage of the similar structure of the matching patches and introduces the low-rank matrix completion effectively to repair the damaged region. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can set reasonable patch priority, reduce the probability of mismatching, and maintain the completeness of structure. The repaired images have more natural appearance than the results of some other mainstream image inpainting approaches.","PeriodicalId":407093,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 7th International Conference on Awareness Science and Technology (iCAST)","volume":"103 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122898579","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we propose a Hybrid Label Propagation Algorithm (HLPA) for finding communities on large-scale real-world social networks. And we conduct our experiments on real-world social networks datasets and get meaningful community results. Our method can get detection results on large-scale networks significantly fast, due to the following two benefits. The first is that our near linear algorithm HLPA is using a novel hybrid updating scheme, label decaying strategy and different initialization methods on different networks to improve the quality and scalability for detecting communities. And the second is that this is the first attempt implementation at community detection on the lightning-fast cluster computing framework Dpark, which is a Python version of Spark. Through experiment, we compare our algorithm with the state-of-art algorithms, and have confirmed our algorithms' superiority and universality for working on unweighted overlapping community detection of large-scale real-world social networks.","PeriodicalId":407093,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 7th International Conference on Awareness Science and Technology (iCAST)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116891178","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Some equipment such as video camera are often used for collecting the resident activity information. However, the data so collected also include extra information not necessary for assisting resident's lives. Many people feel uncomfortable with these privacy related data. To protect the privacy, it is better to use only simple sensors like infrared sensor, pressure sensor, and so on. Data related to privacy can be greatly reduced if we use these simple sensors. On the other hand, information for recognizing the resident activities is also limited. The goal of this research is to validate the potentiality of using only simple sensors to correctly analyze resident life styles and activities. For this purpose, we conducted experiments in several ordinary Japanese families. This paper reports some results we obtained in analyzing correlations between members in the same family. Results show that even if we use infrared sensor alone, it is possible to understand some normal activity patterns.","PeriodicalId":407093,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 7th International Conference on Awareness Science and Technology (iCAST)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126569178","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, most of the conventional features can only describe the horizontal and vertical eye movements. The objective of this study is to propose a new feature of the nystagmus to evaluate the rotary of eye movements and position the affected semicircular canals of BPPV. Our study included 50 patients. Firstly, using the image processing techniques, we compiled a program to extract the new feature: nystagmus torsion angle and also some conventional features from the Video-nystagmograph (VNG) to evaluate rotary and horizontal eye movements separately. These extracted features were further used to diagnose the position of the affected semicircular canals. Posterior semicircular canal BPPV (P-BPPV) were involved in 32 patients (64%), whereas the anterior semicircular canal BPPV (A-BPPV) and horizontal semicircular canal (H-BPPV) were involved in 2 (4%) and 14 (28%), respectively. Two patients (4%) had the Multiple-canal BPPV (M-BPPV). The result of the diagnoses shows that this proposed method can diagnose the BPPV accurately. Clinically, this new method may be used to provide helpful guidelines for physicians' objective diagnosis.","PeriodicalId":407093,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 7th International Conference on Awareness Science and Technology (iCAST)","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132846459","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are various CICO technology widely available, ranging from paper and pen based simplest way to the Web and Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) based systems. However, they are still far from providing an efficient and effective measurement to CICO status of massive users. In this study, we developed a novel CICO system based on the emerging technology of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) proximity. According to the experimental evaluation, the new CICO system is more advanced than other related ones, in terms of its high availability of terminal medium, easy-going identification, the temporal and spatial precision in real-time proximity tracking, and also hassle-free user experience.","PeriodicalId":407093,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 7th International Conference on Awareness Science and Technology (iCAST)","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134329312","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our previous study involved recommender systems using the KRA model with reciprocal evaluation of each KRA and a hidden KRA model to optimize agent parameters; however, our previous method uses an interactive genetic algorithm (IGA) to optimize these parameters. Therefore, the performance and runtimes decreases with larger inputs. Then, in the present study, we use a hybrid IGA and simulated evolution (SimE) algorithm to improve optimization performance. Moreover, our proposed method employs rearrangement evaluation of multimedia data to reduce the evaluation load of users. Furthermore, we have verified the effectiveness of the proposed method via a numerical simulation using a pseudo-user that imitates user preferences. Our simulation results show that optimization performance of the proposed method is substantially higher than that of our previous method.","PeriodicalId":407093,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 7th International Conference on Awareness Science and Technology (iCAST)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116313946","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One important reason of the accident is the fatigue driving of the bus driver. Thus it is very important to monitor and research the state of the driver during the driving process, which can give an evaluation to driver's driving condition and provide a valuable reference to the coach driving. Because there have some different features of human electroencephalogram (EEG) between the fatigue state and the natural state, we used the portable EEG acquisition device, Emotive, to get the EEG of the driver in the natural state (before driving) and the fatigue state (after driving three hours) in the real driving environment. And through the wavelet packet analysis, the EEG was decomposed to four sub frequency band: theta, alpha, beta and delta band, for each band, the nonlinear correlation of different electrode was calculated and functional brain network was constructed. Then the network was converted to binary network by choose an appropriate threshold and some network feature parameters were calculated and compared between the natural state and the fatigue state. The result shows that the differences of the functional brain network between the two states are very clear and this method can be used to monitor and evaluation the driver's fatigue state.","PeriodicalId":407093,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 7th International Conference on Awareness Science and Technology (iCAST)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129679360","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On the one hand, by introducing Hooke Jeeves algorithm into the traditional diamond-search-based fast block matching method, the efficiency of motion estimation is improved. On the other hand, a modified Kalman filter is proposed to provide an adaptive motion compensation of quivering image sequences while the panning motion is preserved. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm provides robust and adaptive compensation for image sequences even if fast panning motion exists.","PeriodicalId":407093,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 7th International Conference on Awareness Science and Technology (iCAST)","volume":"106 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115153519","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, as feature sizes and power supply voltages continually decrease, the devices and interconnects have become more vulnerable to transient errors. Transient errors, or soft errors, have severe consequences on chip performance, such as deadlock, data corruption, packet loss and increased packet latency. In this paper, we propose a soft-error resilient 3D-NoC router (SER-3DR) architecture for highly-reliable many-core Systems-on-Chips. The proposed architecture is able to recover from transient errors occurring in different pipeline stages of the SER-3DR.We implemented the architecture in hardware with 45 nm CMOS technology. Evaluation results show that SER-3DR is able to achieve a high level of transient error protection with a latency increase of 18.16%, an additional area cost of 14.98% and a power overhead of 5.90% when compared to the baseline router architecture.","PeriodicalId":407093,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 7th International Conference on Awareness Science and Technology (iCAST)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121672764","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
