Depending on the nature and operations of the UAVs, they are being required to go through the same processes than an aircraft EMC certification of aircraft involves a wide variety of tests. This paper deals with two aircraft low level coupling tests, namely, Low Level Direct Drive (LLDD) and Low Level Swept Fields (LLSF) and compares the results obtained in two different sites. On one hand, an Open Area Test Site (OATS) will be employed and, on the other hand, a Reverberation Chamber (RC) will be the other facility examined. The object under test will be a representative part of an UAV.","PeriodicalId":405864,"journal":{"name":"2017 Antenna Measurement Techniques Association Symposium (AMTA)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116899783","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such a NF-FF transformation, based on the nonredundant sampling representations of electromagnetic fields, practically makes use of the same number of NF data in the case of both the onset and offset AUT mountings, depending such a number only on the surface shaping the AUT. It has been developed by properly applying the unified theory of spiral scannings for non-volumetric antennas, when the AUT is considered as enclosed in the smallest oblate ellipsoid able to contain it. Some numerical results assessing the accuracy and the robustness of the proposed technique are shown.","PeriodicalId":405864,"journal":{"name":"2017 Antenna Measurement Techniques Association Symposium (AMTA)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127792276","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The normal sampling criterion follows the Nyquist theorem, taking equiangular samples. The sampling step size depends on the smallest sphere that, centered in the coordinate system of the measurement, encloses the AUT, i.e. the global minimum sphere. In addition, a local minimum sphere can be defined as the sphere with minimum radius which, centered in the AUT, encloses it alone. The local minimum sphere is always equal or smaller than the global minimum sphere, being equal when the AUT is centered in the coordinate system of the measurement. It is implied that the center of the local minimum sphere coincides with the radiation center. In this paper, the relative position of the radiation center of an AUT with respect to the center of the coordinate system of the measurement is estimated from SNF data using two approaches. The first approach takes the phase center as an estimation of the radiation center and is based on the method of moving reference point, strictly valid for the far-field case only. The second approach is based on a spherical modes spectrum analysis, iteratively translating the Spherical Wave Expansion (SWE) until the convergence criterion is met. Both methods are applied on undersampled systems by simulation for different cases and antennas. The estimation error of both methods is compared and discussed, highlighting the convenience of each method and an application with compressed sensing techniques.","PeriodicalId":405864,"journal":{"name":"2017 Antenna Measurement Techniques Association Symposium (AMTA)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134375306","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a new mono- and bistatic radar cross section (RCS) facility operating at W-band frequencies is detailed. The mechanical system is capable of full target rotation and a large variation of the bistatic angle (25°-335°). It features exceptional precise alignment capabilities and a high positioning accuracy of <0.1°, which has been cross-checked by a double slit experiment. The fully-polarimetric mm-wave system consists of a static transceiver and a specially developed receiving unit that rotates around the target at a distance of 1 m. A polarimetric calibration is adapted to this facility, relying on canonical targets complemented by a novel highly cross-polarizing wire mesh fabricated in screen printing. This novel facility is studied in detail along with exemplary measurements such as the permittivity determination of a thin polyester film through Brewster angle determination. All calibrated measurements are in good agreement with numerical and analytical simulation.","PeriodicalId":405864,"journal":{"name":"2017 Antenna Measurement Techniques Association Symposium (AMTA)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130996736","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, a practical implementation has so far been elusive. This paper describes a first step toward such a practical implementation, where the practicality and generality are maximized at the expense of more acquired data points. Building on the theoretical work of faculty at the University of Salerno and University of Naples [1]-[17], the authors have acquired a set of near-field data using a spiral locus of sample points and, from those data, obtained the far-field patterns. In this paper, we discuss the acquisition system, the calculation and practical implementation of the spiral, the phase transformations, interpolations, and far-field transforms. We also present the resultant far-field patterns and compare them to patterns of the same antenna obtained using conventional near-field scanning. Qualitative results involving aperture back-projection are also given. We summarize our findings with a discussion of error, uncertainty, acquisition time, and processing time in this simplified approach to non-redundant sampling in a practical system.","PeriodicalId":405864,"journal":{"name":"2017 Antenna Measurement Techniques Association Symposium (AMTA)","volume":"193 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124289567","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The antenna is low-profile, vertically polarized, radiates in the endfire direction, and is mountable on large metallic surfaces. It is comprised of a coaxial fed trapezoidal launcher along with six rows of coupled microstrip resonators. The base antenna design is modeled, simulated, fabricated, and measured. Validation of the accuracy of this model is achieved through good agreement between the measured and simulated results. The antenna model is then scaled, simulated, and compared against the performance of the base model. A bandwidth of 5.5–10.8GHz for VSWR < 2 is achieved with a realized peak gain of greater than 8.5dBi over the operating range for the base design. When scaled, a bandwidth of 20.9–40.8GHz for VSWR < 2 is achieved with a realized peak gain greater than 5.3dBi over the operating range. Both designs achieve a profile of less than 0.087λ0 (where λ0 is the center frequency wavelength in free space) and a radiation efficiency greater than 97%.","PeriodicalId":405864,"journal":{"name":"2017 Antenna Measurement Techniques Association Symposium (AMTA)","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116980737","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To overcome all these limitations, and to obtain a unique system for a complete diagnosis, a novel technique of radome characterization is proposed and detailed in this article. Based on a Near-Field network of probes placed in the vicinity of the radome under test, this innovative Near-Field measurement system is fully compliant with the updated standard RTCA/DO213A and leads to accurate evaluation of many parameters such as transmission efficiency and beamwidth, while reducing the measurement time required.","PeriodicalId":405864,"journal":{"name":"2017 Antenna Measurement Techniques Association Symposium (AMTA)","volume":"79 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117135550","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is also mandatory to have regular participation in such activities to obtain and maintain accreditations like ISO 17025. The main goal of the facility comparison activities is to provide a formal opportunity for the participants to validate and document their achieved measurement accuracy and procedures by comparison with other facilities. Since 2004, comparison campaigns with different scopes have been conducted on antenna measurements within various European activities. Results of these activities have led to improvement in antenna measurement procedures and protocols in facilities and contributions to standards. In this paper we report on a recent EurAAP facility comparison campaign involving a medium gain ridge horn, MVI-SH800. The antenna is equipped with an absorber plate to reduce the sensibility to the measurement set-up in order to evaluate the improvement with respect to the previous ACE intercomparison activity, involving the same antenna lacking of absorber plate. The campaign covers measurement in the L and C band frequencies in different facilities in Europe and USA.","PeriodicalId":405864,"journal":{"name":"2017 Antenna Measurement Techniques Association Symposium (AMTA)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124652953","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Modern cars are equipped with a large number of integrated antennas, spanning a wide frequency range for a large number of applications. Integrated antennas are strongly coupled with the structure, final testing are thus performed on the vehicle to accurately determine the performance. The physical and electrical size of typical cars, impose different measurement challenges while performing radiated testing in automotive Spherical Near Field (SNF) ranges. At higher frequencies, the coupling between antenna and vehicle is often limited to the near vicinity of the antenna. It is therefore customary to position the vehicle in the range such that the measurement coordinate system is centered on the antenna. The sampling requirement, to represent the antenna and nearby environment, can be reduced while maintaining acceptable accuracy. In many cases, such desirable arrangement becomes impractical, either due to a high number of antennas to be tested in different positions or due to size of the range. The Translated Spherical Wave Expansion (Translated-SWE) has recently been introduced as an advanced post-processing tool to place the local coordinate system in any position within the measurement range [1-2]. This eliminate the necessity to move the vehicle during testing. In this paper, the Translated-SWE is applied to typical automotive measurements scenarios of antennas in displaced positions on vehicles. Sampling guidelines for full vehicle testing using this method are presented for the first time. Measurement accuracy is investigated experimentally on a 1:12 scaled vehicle with integrated antenna in a standard multi-probe system.","PeriodicalId":405864,"journal":{"name":"2017 Antenna Measurement Techniques Association Symposium (AMTA)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128659237","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two cylindrical reconfigurable antennas are presented which tune over a wide band and steer over a wide field of view: a 133 mm diameter antenna providing a realized gain (gain with mismatch) better than a dipole from 1 GHz to 3 GHz and a 75 mm diameter antenna demonstrating steering about a full hemisphere. These antennas are constructed using a modular approach out of a series of identical boards which act as antenna pixels — electrically small segments that can be turned on and off to affect the antenna pattern. Each pixel contains RF switches and contacts for control wires on each side of the board. By fragmenting the reconfigurable antenna into individual pixel boards, one can construct antennas of arbitrary size and shape, allowing implementations to be designed for more gain or for a smaller footprint. Additionally, we show a single antenna's ability to achieve distinct configurations that each maintain gain in a specified direction while forming a null at a different offset angle.","PeriodicalId":405864,"journal":{"name":"2017 Antenna Measurement Techniques Association Symposium (AMTA)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121417824","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
