Digitalization foresees the integration of stakeholders in ecosystems, e.g., a factory, an airport, and a bridge. Such integration requires data sharing among different local automation systems owned by different legal bodies, which are possibly located in different countries under their legal systems. The sharing of data enables the optimization of productivity, raw material yield, energy and environmental footprint, etc., which is the basic motivation for automation. Scalability is another key characteristic of a future product, services, and production line architecture. It is a significant investment and should fit for volume and premium products.","PeriodicalId":405841,"journal":{"name":"2020 13th International Conference on Communications (COMM)","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124611253","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A two-state Markov chain is used to model the dynamic activity of the PU and establish a chi-squared mixture model for the energy detector output that allows accurate calculation of the probabilities of detection (${mathcal{P}_d}$) and false alarm (${mathcal{P}_f}$) for the SU in the context of the dynamic PU activity. The chi-squared mixture parameters are estimated from a set of observations using an incremental expectation maximization (EM) algorithm. The proposed approach is illustrated with numerical results obtained from simulations showing receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves corresponding to the SU energy detector with dynamic PU in various scenarios.","PeriodicalId":405841,"journal":{"name":"2020 13th International Conference on Communications (COMM)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127507249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Security and privacy are of particular concern on these systems, as they have access to a wide range of sensitive resources and can access private data. While just using the Settings app on iOS smart phones you can both secure the access to the screen and installed apps, in Android smart phones you can only lock the screen. For locking the apps, you must download a special application from a third-party store like Google Play. The objective of this paper is to emphasize the importance of having only one application which secures access to both the screen and the apps on Android operating systems using facial recognition. We created an application that can restrict the access to the installed apps in the system, control them remotely through a web platform and lock the screen. All of these ensure complete security, beginning from the screen, the main gateway that offers access to the phone, to the installed applications that may contain important information. Thus, using a single application, users can secure the entire phone without needing to use the phone settings.","PeriodicalId":405841,"journal":{"name":"2020 13th International Conference on Communications (COMM)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116949773","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The emerging cloud technologies provide businesses and individuals with the possibility to outsource these computations on a remote platform with large resources and high availability. This approach substantially reduces the costs, but could rise privacy issues. To address these issues, the user data could be encrypted, sent to the cloud and processed there by taking advantage from the properties of a homomorphic encryption scheme. The result of the computation performed on encrypted data is sent back to the user to be decrypted.This paper studies the possibility of conducting some morphological operations on encrypted digital images. First, we model these processing using the two elementary operations in the ring ${mathbb{F}_2}$. Second, we implement these computations using CSGNHE which is a recently proposed scheme by our team. Finally, we compare our results in terms of execution times and encrypted data size with some well-known schemes from the literature.","PeriodicalId":405841,"journal":{"name":"2020 13th International Conference on Communications (COMM)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132480392","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Global and local features are extracted for person detection and person identification, respectively, boosted by attention layers that allow the extraction of discriminative feature representations, all in an end-to-end manner. We evaluate our approach on three challenging data sets and show that our proposed method improves the state-of-the-art networks.","PeriodicalId":405841,"journal":{"name":"2020 13th International Conference on Communications (COMM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131232870","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The controller placement in large provider networks is still a research topic, given the various optimization criteria applicable and different network contexts. It is largely recognized today, that in large network scenarios a multi-controller solution is realistic, due to many aspects, e.g., to avoid the single point of failure in case of a single controller and to solve the limited controller processing capacity problems. This paper attempts a critical study of different placement solutions published in research studies. The main paper contribution is to identify the guidelines for a deeper evaluation of controller placement solutions performances – in future research.","PeriodicalId":405841,"journal":{"name":"2020 13th International Conference on Communications (COMM)","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123650387","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The numerous solutions and technologies reflect a fragmented landscape, in which the interoperability among heterogeneous and geographically distributed computer systems, ´things´ and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) platforms remains unachieved. The Web of Things (WoT) initiative of the Web of Things Working Group aims at developing standards for the WoT to expose the potential of the IoT while addressing its current fragmentation, and encourage the growth of the market for the IoT devices and services. However, towards attaining seamless interoperability in the WoT, a challenging question is: Are standards sufficient to ensure interoperability in the WoT? Towards answering this research question, this article aims to identify existing WoT interoperability standardization initiatives and discuss the role and ability of standards to ensure interoperability in the WoT.
