Nevertheless, these drugs also have side effects that can increase extrapyramidal symptoms and mortality in the elderly population. It is yet to be determined whether antipsychotics should be reduced or discontinued in patients with very-late-onset schizophrenia-like psychosis (VLOSLP) during the stabilization and maintenance stages. Therefore, we describe the case of an elderly woman for whom low-dose olanzapine was useful throughout the initial, stabilization, and maintenance phases of VLOSLP. The patient was a 70-year-old woman who had experienced persistent hallucinations and delusions for 3 years. Two years after her diagnosis, except for relapse due to self-discontinuation, she remained in remission of her psychotic symptoms by continuing olanzapine treatment (2.5 mg/day). The standard effective dose of olanzapine was 10 mg/day, and she was able to respond to therapy with a low dose of olanzapine in the initial and subsequent phases of stabilization and maintenance. It is suggested that the discontinuation of antipsychotics should be avoided to avoid recurrence, even if the dose is lower than the standard amount during the stabilization and maintenance phases. Additionally, if the patient progresses to dementia, the treatment approach may vary, and it is imperative to monitor cognitive decline and self-discontinuation of oral medications during the follow-up of VLOSLP.","PeriodicalId":405627,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Psychiatry Research Reviews & Reports","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123604827","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This prospective analytical study looks at remission rates in psychotic symptoms on Positive and Negative Symptom Score (PANSS) following first contact with a pioneer Early Intervention Service based at a tertiary referral center in Dhaka, Bangladesh (DEIS). The study found that the remission rate at 6 months was 62% on PANSS. The study also found that a shorter Duration of Untreated Psychosis (DUP) was positively correlated with improved remission rates at 3- and 6-months follow-up. As a secondary finding, the study established that 62% of individuals attending the service had attempted to access spiritual or traditional healers prior to entering into mental health services","PeriodicalId":405627,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Psychiatry Research Reviews & Reports","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130257130","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The problem is compounded by an extremely low number of practicing mental health professionals. The harsh economic environment in the country has had a toll on the mental well-being of many people. The country has several training programs in mental health despite the shortage of these professionals. Aim: The aim of the study was to explore non-mental health professionals perceptions on specialization, especially concerning the field of mental health. Methods: The study was qualitative in nature. 12 participants from each of the professions of social workers, occupational therapists, nurses, and doctors were recruited for the study using purposive sampling. The subjects were from Parirenyatwa Hospital and St Giles Rehabilitation Centre in Harare, Zimbabwe. The instrument was a 7 question semi-structured interview administered either face to face or via telephone calls. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis. Results: A total of 3 themes emerged and these related to: the factors considered when choosing a profession or specialty, factors that discourage health professionals from specializing in mental health and, the views of non-mental health staff towards mental health professionals. Aspects of a high job market, high income, prestige, passion to save lives, family traditions and, inspirational role models were important for career choices.","PeriodicalId":405627,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Psychiatry Research Reviews & Reports","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116702788","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most of the literature is focused on infection effects on pregnancy, the neonate, children and adolescents as well as Long COVID in youth. Although most youth have not experienced COVID infection or Long COVID, they have had other negative experiences during COVID-19. These have included lockdown school closings and exposure to aggression and violence. Related mental health problems have included loneliness, anxiety and depression, post-traumatic stress and suicidality. These mental health problems have been associated with excessive screen time/social media, inactivity, over-eating/unhealthy diet and sleep disturbances. Limitations of this literature include the typically absent baseline data and the questionable reliability of parents reporting on the activities and feelings of their youth.","PeriodicalId":405627,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Psychiatry Research Reviews & Reports","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126269181","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has also varied by age group, type of questionnaire and whether it was assessed during a lockdown or during the non-lockdown pandemic. In several studies reviewed here, PTSS/PTSD has been highly correlated with anxiety, depression and sleep disturbances, suggesting the comorbidity of those problems. Risk factors or correlates of PTSS/PTSD in youth during COVID-19 have included older age, female gender, parent PTSD, loneliness, missing friends, fear of infection and lack of exercise. Medical health practitioners have been connected with the patients and hence can better speculate the psychology of human beings. The present study was designed to find out the manifestation of anxiety as repercussion of back pain in the post COVID scenario examined in the setup of a medical practitioner. A survey was conducted among the medical practitioners from India to find out the possibility of anxiety as after-effect of back pain post COVID-19 through questionnaires. Results of the study showed that 95% of patients were in the view to have chances of anxiety with more possibility to have social anxiety and post-traumatic stress anxiety disorder as a consequence of COVID-19. Female and male genders have equal chances, whereas transgender have lesser chances to have anxiety disorders as a consequence of COVID-19.
