Rather than information professionals, librarians in Indonesia are seen as technical, clerical, and administrative staff. This paper discusses the implementation of a professional certification program to build and strengthen librarianship as a professional career in Indonesia. A questionnaire survey was administered to 60 library stakeholders to determine their perceptions of professional library certification. The study finds that the certification strategically reshapes librarians' professionalism by assessing their competencies. Through accreditation, professional librarians' competencies are measured and accounted for by performing specific library tasks that will affect library services.","PeriodicalId":404822,"journal":{"name":"Library Leadership & Management","volume":"12 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141810697","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This new division needed to define a vision for itself, encourage a sense of unity among its employees, and foster collaboration among those employees. This article details how the MIT Division created a Data and Discovery initiative based on the Pumps and Pipes collaboration model, a model which brings seemingly unrelated industries together to discover solutions to their respective challenges by exploring “their neighbor’s toolbox” (Pumps and Pipes, n.d., “What We Do”).
