The twelve week group programme was offered on a regional basis by the Domestic Violence Service in Adelaide. Data were collected from the male participants and their women partners. The pre-test post-test evaluation incorporated a six and twelve month follow-up study and covered attitudinal characteristics, the measurement of physical and non-physical abuse and examined the social environment of the participant’s family. Qualitative data were also collected. The results indicated that the majority of men made long term behavioural and attitudinal changes. In conclusion, the evaluation is discussed in relation to a social change strategy aimed at eliminating domestic violence.","PeriodicalId":404699,"journal":{"name":"Australian journal of sex, marriage, and family","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1991-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117286132","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data collected during the third trimester of pregnancy and 5–6 months following delivery indicated that similarity in spouses’ family-of-origin experiences is a significant variable affecting marital adjustment during the anticipated and subsequent birth of their first child. Data suggested this relationship was more pronounced in comparisons between extreme groups for husbands and wives at the two data collection periods. Implications for therapy and research are discussed.","PeriodicalId":404699,"journal":{"name":"Australian journal of sex, marriage, and family","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1989-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125162016","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

All participants were interviewed regarding the structure, influences on structure, effects of conflict, effects on children and overall evaluation of the coparenting situation they had instituted. Data revealed that there was little reason to assume that this process of parenting had any damaging effects on children, and added further support to recent claims that it is ongoing conflict rather than divorce per se which leads to behavioural and emotional problems in children who experience divorce.","PeriodicalId":404699,"journal":{"name":"Australian journal of sex, marriage, and family","volume":"94 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1989-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130945443","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At the same time women in this position have been shown to suffer greater physical and mental stress than women in the workforce. This study set out to investigate the relationship between the leisure experience of a small sample of middle–class suburban mothers and their general and mental health. Thirty women who attended groups for mothers of first babies run by Baby Health Centres in the northern suburbs of the Sydney Metropolitan Area were interviewed in February–March 1988. The results show a relationship between time spent on leisure and time for one’s own space during the week prior to the interview and some aspects of general and mental health as measured by the Rand Corporation Indices. Three cases are presented and issues for women’s leisure, labour and lifestyles discussed.","PeriodicalId":404699,"journal":{"name":"Australian journal of sex, marriage, and family","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1989-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129727821","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A sample of 304 adolescents was tested on the Blood and Wolfe (1960) decision items which measure involvement in family decisions. These same decision items were mailed to parents for completion by fathers and mothers independently. Correlations were significant between adolescents and their parents on reported involvement in family decisions. Additional analysis suggested that younger female adolescents had the highest level of agreement with parents on parental participation in decisions, while younger male adolescents had highest level of agreement with parents on adolescent participation in decisions. Analysis of different combinations of parental involvement and adolescent participation in family decisions indicated that high parental involvement was associated with the highest adolescent participation, while low parental involvement was linked to the lowest adolescen...","PeriodicalId":404699,"journal":{"name":"Australian journal of sex, marriage, and family","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1989-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128937014","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
