The correlation increases in weak and speculative markets, while they never get reduced to zero in the strongest markets. This research focuses on the correlation between the economic news published in a highly circulating newspaper in Turkey and the stock market closing values in Turkey. In the research several feature extraction methodologies are implemented on both of the data sources, which are the stock market values and economic news. Since the economic news is in natural language format, the text mining technique, term frequency-inverse document frequency is implemented. On the other hand, the time series analysis methods like random walk, Bollinger band, moving average or difference are applied over the stock market values. After the feature extraction step, the classification methods are built on the well-known classifiers support vector machine, k-nearest neighborhood and decision tree. Moreover, an ensemble classifier based on majority voting is implemented on top of these classifiers. The success rates show that the results are satisfactory to claim the methods implemented in this study can be spread to future research with similar data sets from other countries.","PeriodicalId":404696,"journal":{"name":"Int. Competitive intelligence is one of the commercial tools available in this field. It extracts helpful information from competitive environment and, after accurate analysis, generates effective strategies for the organization. High speed of changes, uncertainty, complexity and so on are among the characteristics of competitive environments. Consequently, approach of competitive intelligence must be adaptable to any kind of changes occurring in the competitive environment. In this paper, a conceptual model was presented for adaptive competitive intelligence. The proposed model which was a conceptual model was evaluated along the paper and the results were discussed. Increasing sustainability of competitive power was one of the most important outcomes of the recommended model.","PeriodicalId":404696,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Bus. Intell. While there are many reasons suggested for failure, elements of the process involving the human factor are the primary area of concern for this study. An extensive literature review of 63 Business Process ChangeBPC, including Business Process ReengineeringBPR, Total Quality ManagementTQM, Lean ManufacturingLM, Six Sigma and Continuous Process ImprovementCPI case studies was conducted to determine the preliminary success/failure factors. The factors that are being investigated in this study are: industry type, number of employees, process change type, change response type, upper management support, lower echelon support, performance measurements, initial change focus and downsizing made during process change. The target variable is the process change outcome. The primary purpose of this study is to examine possible factors that either promote or inhibit success in process change efforts. The factors chosen for inclusion are those that are most closely associated with institutional theory and the human elements associated with process change in the workplace. This information will contribute to the existing research suggesting the congruence between Institutional Theory and Organization Change Theory.","PeriodicalId":404696,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Bus. BI processes often involve team of human decision makers and end-users to extract, explore and analyse the data. The results, decisions or models after analysis need to be implemented into operational systems. There can be considerable time delay between business events happening and action taken thus loosing opportunities. Intelligent techniques such as rule-based reasoning and case-based reasoning have been used extensively to address wide range of intelligent tasks including personalisation and recommendation. Some BI tasks can be modelled, automated and delivered through services rather than done on ad-hoc basis. The authors represent a service based approach to BI where a service corresponds to a well defined analytical functionality implemented using intelligent techniques, filtering techniques or hybrids of them accessing only relevant data from database specifically modelled and designed for such tasks. The authors discuss an application of the approach for a value-added service in mobile domain.","PeriodicalId":404696,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Bus. Intell. Organizational knowledge workers must be able to search for pertinent information quickly and effectively. This research identifies the relative usefulness of the metadata elements associated with the Dublin Core metadata standard for the effective retrieval of three different information resources-structured business intelligence reports, structured spreadsheet reports, and unstructured reports in formats such as Word and PowerPoint. A survey of knowledge workers was conducted to determine the relative usefulness of the metadata elements for each of the three information resources and to develop a framework outlining where metadata tag requirements differ between such resources. Overall, the study and resulting framework emphasize the need for system developers and database management personnel to be cognizant of the type of information resources being used, and ensure that search metadata elements that are appropriate for these specific resources are in place.","PeriodicalId":404696,"journal":{"name":"Int. The purpose of this paper is to provide direction to advance the conceptual design of business intelligence (BI) systems for implementing CRM strategies. After introducing social CRM and social BI as emerging fields of research, the authors match CRM strategies with a re-engineered conceptual data model of Facebook in order to illustrate the strategic value of these data. Subsequently, the authors design a multi-dimensional data model for social BI and demonstrate its applicability by designing management reports in a retail scenario. Building on the service blueprinting framework, the authors propose a structured research agenda for the emerging field of social BI.","PeriodicalId":404696,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Bus. Intell. They frequently use BA systems to respond quickly to market changes and customer demand, and for market differentiation with better customer service and new types of products and services. The authors argue that BA systems can also enable alignment between business strategy and information technology IT strategy and support organisational transformation. The authors use a single case study to explain how a global data warehouse, standardized metrics and sophisticated reporting capabilities supported the strategic transformation of a diversified and multi-layered international mining company into a unified and integrated global organisation. They identify a number of core technology, management, culture, governance and people related capabilities that were crucial to the success of the global transformation initiative. Two important implications of the case study are the importance of BA systems in the alignment of IT and business strategy and the synergistic interaction of BA systems and other organizational resources in achieving benefits.","PeriodicalId":404696,"journal":{"name":"Int. The study adopts a process-oriented approach to evaluating the value contribution of BI, arguing that it stems from improvements in business processes. The study develops and tests a research model that explains the unique mechanisms through which BI creates business value. The model draws on the resource-based view to identify key assets and capabilities that determine the impact of BI on business processes and, consequently, on organizational performance. Analysis of data collected from 159 managers and IT/BI experts, using structural equation modeling SEM techniques, shows that BI largely contributes to business value by improving both operational and strategic business processes.","PeriodicalId":404696,"journal":{"name":"Int. This method supports the discovery of exceptional values in OLAP data and the explanation of such values by giving their underlying causes. OLAP applications offer a support tool for business analysts and accountants in analyzing financial data because of the availability of different views and managerial reporting facilities. The purpose of the methods and algorithms presented here, is to extend OLAP applications with more powerful analysis and reporting functions. The authors describe how exceptional values at any level in the data, can be automatically detected by statistical models. Secondly, a generic model for diagnosis of atypical values is realized in the OLAP context. By applying it, a full explanation tree of causes at successive levels can be generated. If the tree is too large, the analyst can use appropriate filtering measures to prune the tree to a manageable size. This methodology has a wide range of applications such as interfirm comparison, analysis of sales data and the analysis of any other data that possess a multi-dimensional hierarchical structure. The method is demonstrated in a case study on financial data.","PeriodicalId":404696,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Bus. Intell.
