Meanwhile, European energy suppliers buy Guarantees of Origin (GoO) which allow them to sell green energy at premium prices while in reality delivering grey energy to their customers. Blockchain technology has proven itself to be a robust paying system in which users transact money without the involvement of a third party. Blockchain tokens can be used to represent a unit of energy and, just as GoOs, be submitted to the market. This paper focuses on simulating marketplace using the Ethereum Blockchain and Smart Contracts, where prosumers can sell tokenized GoOs to consumers willing to subsidize renewable energy producers. Such markets bypass energy providers by allowing consumers to obtain tokenized GoOs directly from the producers, which in turn benefit directly from the earnings. Two market strategies where tokens are sold as GoOs have been simulated. In the Fix Price Strategy prosumers sell their tokens to the average GoO price of 2014. The Variable Price Strategy focuses on selling tokens at a price range defined by the difference between grey and green energy. The study finds that the Ethereum Blockchain is robust enough to functions as a platform for tokenized GoO trading. Simulation results have been compared and the results indicate that prosumers earn significantly more money by following the Variable Price Strategy.","PeriodicalId":404327,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Smart Energy Grid Engineering (SEGE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129401835","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, demand side management systems, named as home energy management systems at the residential level, are being implemented under the new smart grid concept. Analyzing the performances of home energy management systems requires generating different realistic residential demand profiles since the residential demand is highly complex comprising several factors such as occupancy, climate, user preferences, and types of appliances. This study provides the result of a survey analysis that can be used to generate such realistic residential demand profiles. In the survey, information about the user preferences for appliance use time and duration and about user will to be part of a demand control program are obtained. Results of the survey together with experimentally measured power values of appliances are used to produce sample representative load profiles for a weekday and for a weekend. These load profiles can be used in the evaluation of home energy management systems.","PeriodicalId":404327,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Smart Energy Grid Engineering (SEGE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129792932","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, a smart grid involves various types of devices and equipment having different quality concerns and computing capability, which requires a flexible communication platform that can accommodate heterogeneous devices. The Data Distribution Service (DDS) is a standard for data-centric communication based on a publish-subscribe protocol for distributed applications. It enables reliable data communication through various features such as quality-of-service (QoS) and dynamic discovery. In this paper, we present configuring DDS features to support different types of components in smart grids. First, we describe communicating components, requirements, and challenges in smart grids. Then, we describe how DDS features can be configured to a specific component. Based on the configuration, we demonstrate modeling and tailoring DDS specifically for the component type. This work uses the term component to refer to any software system or hardware device with computing and communication capabilities in smart grids.","PeriodicalId":404327,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Smart Energy Grid Engineering (SEGE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129958350","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Integrating microgrids and renewable energy sources facilitates stainable energy future. This paper proposes an optimal operation of energy management system in a microgrid with water pumping. The microgrid includes PV, wind turbine, and energy storage system (ESS). The proposed method determines the optimal hour-by-hour scheduling for the microgrid system while it meets the required demand and includes a water pumping station. Genetic algorithm (GA) was applied to solve the problem with an objective of total operational cost minimization. The method was applied to a typical microgrid system with different parallel-connected pump configurations. The results indicate high potential savings for the total operating cost.","PeriodicalId":404327,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Smart Energy Grid Engineering (SEGE)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126947015","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This scenario is not only in India but it is also there in many developing countries. To solve the issues related to high losses in the distribution stage of power system for agricultural loads of rural areas, High Voltage Distribution System (HVDS) has been proposed. There are basically four objectives of this paper. First is to present the proper literature review of the IEEE-published papers which are listed under HVDS in the chronological order of their publication year which would be helpful to new researchers for understanding the step-by-step development in the field of HVDS. Second is to present the comparative study of existing Low Voltage Distribution System (LVDS) and the proposed HVDS on the basis of the analysis which was performed. Third is to present the simulative analysis of both the systems on the basis of the simulation which was made using etap software. Using etap for this analysis makes this paper distinctive than all the other research papers which are reviewed in this paper. Fourth is to present a cost-analysis of the proposed HVDS system. Overall, this paper is also a small and humble approach in the direction of realizing the schemes like DDUGJY (Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana) under rural electrification plan of the Ministry of power of the republic of India.","PeriodicalId":404327,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Smart Energy Grid Engineering (SEGE)","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123155914","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This seems to be a truth based upon the ever-increasing deployment of DER worldwide. And when the microgrids are described they are typically shown as a self-healing network with a topography that creates a loop of some kind. This might be a great design for new feeder installations, but it would probably mean a lot of additional construction for the existing infrastructure of substations and feeders. In this paper, we review the concept of a microgrid and examine how the existing operational feeders should be completed based upon actual load measurement data. This includes an investigation on how photovoltaic-specific resources would support the feeder for eventual transformation of the feeder into a sustainable microgrid. The simulations show how appropriate deployment of distributed energy resources (DER) will actually harden feeders and substations. However, it should be noticed that the current DER policies of many US States reduce the microgrid potentials to become fully exploited. The result of this paper offers additional directions how to deploy DER on existing infrastructure in a thoughtful and practical manner.","PeriodicalId":404327,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Smart Energy Grid Engineering (SEGE)","volume":"79 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123780577","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The problem arises when all the consumers try to avail specific low price time slot to activate their power demands. It ends up with energy congestion or system destabilization. A better strategy is, to forecast a day ahead price and update it instantly, whenever a new consumer purchases an amount of energy for its next day demands. Therefore, every time a new price is applicable for the upcoming purchasers on day-ahead basis. This strategy may be adopted by an aggregator. An aggregator, which is equipped with renewable energy resources (RES), also imports electricity from the grid. It forecasts and updates a day-ahead fluctuating electricity price for its consumers. So that, all the consumers can avail relatively low price electricity slots based on their energy purchasing decisions. In this paper, a regression base statistical model is adopted to investigate two major problems: 1) accurate forecasting of day-ahead electricity price by an aggregator; 2) activate load demands by the consumers at lower electricity prices. In our proposed solution, linear regression is used to forecast the electricity price, exploiting intermittent nature of the renewables. Whereas, load activation strategy is proposed by introducing electrical loads with different levels of delay tolerance. Applying boundary condition values using logistic regression, a consumer can activate its loads on different electricity prices. The simulation results have established an effectively forecasted value of electricity price and an accurate activation of consumer's load demands.","PeriodicalId":404327,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Smart Energy Grid Engineering (SEGE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121277701","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
