Desde la Medea griega, el mito de la infanticida terminó plasmándose en la Europa Moderna en las brujas devoradoras de niños. Entre los arquetipos extremos de la madre-bruja asesina y la madre idealizada, se sitúa un tipo de maldad ambigua y sutil: la de la madre dominante que, aunque no elimina a sus hijos físicamente, ejerce una influencia debilitadora y maligna sobre ellos. {"title":"Editorial: “Myth, Fantasy and Magic”","authors":"J. M. Contemporary criticism tends to be quite vague when establishing the boundaries that separate both concepts. This conceptual indeterminacy often comes from a terminological indeterminacy and from the rare confrontation of texts. A correct terminological approach and focus on the fundamental texts is crucial for myth-criticism. This academic problem is nowadays aggravated by contemporary trends in storytelling. In films such as Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas (Tim Johnson & Patrick Gilmore, 2003) or Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (Rob Marshall, 2011), there are many mythological characters: Proteus, Eris, mermaids, Tartarus... There are also fantasy motifs, such as the implausible jump of the ship or the plasticity of the mermaids. Myth and fantasy are not opposed concepts, but they are diverse. Se presenta un resumen del motivo desde los mitos, pasando por la literatura caballeresca, hasta la actualidad. También se analiza «El libro en blanco» de Julio Ramón Ribeyro, un cuento donde el autor concibe un libro que solo trae la desgracia a sus poseedores y cuya principal innovación es la capacidad de ser el agente de su propia perversidad.
