A comparison between web search and desktop search and the respective user behaviour during them, is made. This is followed by an analysis of the existing desktop search tools. The paper then discusses a Bayesian technique to collect user feedback and use it to rank the results of existing search frameworks. The results of evaluation of 449 query-result pairs are reported. It is shown that incorporating user feedback improves the ranking of results by as much as 7.32%.","PeriodicalId":403704,"journal":{"name":"2016 12th International Conference on Signal-Image Technology & Internet-Based Systems (SITIS)","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124577064","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The success of such applications lies on several factors like user-friendliness and data presentation as well as the amount and accuracy of cultural data they can offer to users, static or mobile, on-demand. This paper presents the design and implementation of a multipurpose, multidiscipline digital platform that manages, preserves and disseminates tangible and intangible cultural heritage information, appropriate for the everyday use in smart city digital environments. The platform aims to become a participatory system that addresses not only to experts of cultural heritage and artists, but also amateurs and enthusiasts of cultural heritage. This vast and heterogeneous user base could be the only feasible way to support such data-hungry ecosystems, by providing cultural information at any time and place. The platform integrates a mobile services module that can host and support smartphone applications for the direct collection, digitization and presentation of cultural heritage content.","PeriodicalId":403704,"journal":{"name":"2016 12th International Conference on Signal-Image Technology & Internet-Based Systems (SITIS)","volume":"2015 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121404172","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we present an extended multi-spectral face recognition framework by combining the face images captured in six different spectra consisting of 425nm,475nm,525nm,570nm,625nm, and 680nm. We propose a novel image fusion scheme that combines the information from different spectrum of multispectral face images. The proposed image fusion scheme first selects two images from set of all spectral images based on the highest information quantified using entropy measure. Two selected images are combined by decomposing them using Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) to get the sub-bands that are fused using weighted sum rule. The weights are computed automatically on each of these sub-bands by measuring the dependency using correlation and wavelet energy. Extensive experiments are carried out on a newly constructed exclusive multispectral face database using a commercial multispectral sensor SpectraCamTM from Pixelteq company. Extensive experiments are carried out on our database to present both qualitative and quantitative results of the proposed image fusion scheme. The comprehensive comparative analysis is performed by comparing the performance of the proposed scheme with four different state-of-the-art schemes. The obtained results have justified the efficacy of the proposed system for robust multispectral face recognition.","PeriodicalId":403704,"journal":{"name":"2016 12th International Conference on Signal-Image Technology & Internet-Based Systems (SITIS)","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126310828","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Research on spoofing (or liveness) detection is therefore very active. A number of methods have been proposed in the literature, sometimes with very promising results, but limited robustness with respect to the large variety of biometric traits, sensors, and attacks encountered in real-life. Recently, methods based on Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) are drawing great attention, given their success in many other image processing tasks. However, despite some promising results, they seem to suffer the same robustness problem, requiring heavy training to work properly. Here, we propose a new CNN architecture for biometric spoofing detection. Thanks to domain-specific knowledge, accounted for through a suitable loss function, a compact architecture is obtained, allowing reliable training also in the presence of small-size datasets. Experiments prove the proposal to provide state-of-art performance on several widespread datasets for face and iris liveness detection.","PeriodicalId":403704,"journal":{"name":"2016 12th International Conference on Signal-Image Technology & Internet-Based Systems (SITIS)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121341174","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper deals with the problem of handling inconsistency in lightweight ontologies when the set of assertions (facts) is prioritized. We propose a safe and efficient way to restore consistency using the concept of free assertions, assertions that are not involved in conflicts. Our approach allows the selection of one consistent assertional base, called a preferred repair. With the worsening of the disease, the decline of the brain's ability tends to disrupt also the sleep/waking cycle, which may cause sleep problems, night-time wandering, and agitation. It has been proved that there is a connection between sleeping disorders and the onset of cognitive disorders like Alzheimer. In this work we propose an approach for the analysis of the sleep of patients with Alzheimer(AD) in order to detect anomalous movements. In order to prove our approach we monitor two patients: a patient with very early AD and one with multiple sclerosis(MD), both have been monitored for a week. During the monitoring phase, a set of parameters has been acquired such as movements, electrodermal activity (EDA), heart rate (HR) and skin temperature. The results highlight some interesting findings in terms of the number of anomalous movements and the heart rate variation during these movements.","PeriodicalId":403704,"journal":{"name":"2016 12th International Conference on Signal-Image Technology & Internet-Based Systems (SITIS)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126504727","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Given the huge growth of medical imaging data produced in the past few years, studying new ways to index, process and retrieve medical images becomes an important subject to be addressed by the wider community of radiologists, scientists and engineers. At the moment, content-based image retrieval in medical imaging archives, although known to be beneficial to practitioners and researchers, is still rarely integrated into these archives. The aim of this paper is to present an overview of multimodal information retrieval for medical imaging studies, as well as the architecture of a solution for automatic medical image classification and retrieval using combinations of text and image queries.
