This \u0000article argues that the reproductive policy of transhumanism is inconsistent because, on the \u0000one hand, firstly, it discredits the implications of reproduction, especially those related to \u0000women, such as pregnancy, childbirth, and childrearing, which is considered a source of pain \u0000at every stage. Additionally, it prioritizes adult enhancement in pursuit of immortality, which \u0000is why it discards producing a new life. On the other hand, the movement utilizes new \u0000reproductive technologies to enhance human beings, thereby promising and providing \u0000unlimited individual reproductive freedom in a wide range of contexts. Furthermore, this \u0000article argues that transhumanism, which moves away from the concept of sexual human \u0000nature, not only excludes femininity and its associated nature but also converges towards a \u0000sexless human nature biologically. It also discharges sexuality from the purpose of \u0000reproduction and reduces it to the purpose of pleasure substantially. The overall attitude of the \u0000transhumanist context raises significant ethical problems, undermining traditional medical \u0000ethics and bioethics principles such as nonmaleficence, beneficence, autonomy, justice, and \u0000human dignity. Moreover, it forces ethical principles to be redefined on a new basis with its \u0000indifferent attitude that ignores the threat of authoritarian eugenics, neglects reproductive \u0000responsibility while emphasizing reproductive freedom, and fails to consider the nature of \u0000contrast-dependency of human values. In the ishārī exegesis, the meanings of the verses of the Qurʾān are revealed to the Sufi’s mind, and then, the Sufi expresses those senses through symbols and signs by employing an implicit style. Comprehensive and advanced works have been written over time in the field of ishārī exegesis, whose first examples were encountered in the early eras of Sufism. Abū Ḥāmid Muḥammad al-Ghazālī (d. 505/1111) wrote works in various fields such as fiqh (Islamic law), theology, philosophy, and Sufism. Although he did not have any complete book in the field of ishārī exegesis, his vast corpus is overflowing with his ishārī interpretations of verses of the Qurʾān. For this reason, he is recognized as one of the most influential figures in the field of ishārī exegesis. This article aims to determine the basic principles on which al-Ghazālī’s ishārī interpretations of the Qurʾān in his various works are built in the context of the basic principles of his understanding of the Qurʾān. The first part of the article emphasizes al-Ghazālī’s approach to the Qurʾān and his view of the Qurʾān and then attempts to determine the basic principles of the method of his ishārī exegesis. The first part of the study provides information about the life of Ibn ʿAbd al-Hādī, a member of the famous Qudāmah family, followed by his scholarly personality and works. The second part presents an in-depth, critical analysis and comprehensive evaluations of al-Muḥarrar. In this context, an underresearched issue is that the work is an abbreviated version of Ibn Daqīq al-ʿĪd’s al-Ilmām. The relative merit of this claim is examined and the probability that al-Muḥarrar is an independent work is evaluated. In this evaluation, the contents of both works are juxtaposed in a table revealing fundamental differences between them. Other significant contributions of this paper are that it reveals the key aspects of the work and illustrates how it contributes to the ḥadīth literature by showing specific samples from the work. For this purpose, the Evrenseki, Çolaklı, Yavrudoğan, Gündoğdu, and Taşağıl neighborhoods of Antalya were chosen as the area for research. The study group of sixteen men and five women was formed using the snowball sampling method on Afghan migrants living in these neighborhoods and working in agricultural activities, cold storage, greenhouse cultivation, etc. The data obtained through the in-depth interview technique was analyzed using content analysis. The MAXQDA program was used for the systematic coding of the data. As a result of the coding, the article examines the subject through four themes: the pre-migration religious life of Afghans, the post-migration religious life of Afghans, the religious socialization practices of Afghan migrants, and religious life in Türkiye as seen through the eyes of Afghan migrants. Also, it discusses whether Afghan migrants are developing behaviors to protect their religious personalities or foster social integration and cohesion. {"title":"The Legacy of a Literary Man in Islamic Legal Theory: Surūrī Chalabī’s Criticisms in his Super- Commentary on al-Talwīḥ and His Arguments","authors":"İmam Rabbani Çelik","doi":"10.12730/13091719.2022.131.232","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.12730/13091719.2022.131.232","url":null,"abstract":"Al-Taftāzānī (d. 792/1390), a well-known theorist/theologian of the post-classical era of Islamic thought, not only elucidated the statements of Ṣadr al-sharīʿah in his ḥāshiyah (super-commentary), titled al-Talwīḥ, which he wrote on al-Tawḍīḥ, but also introduced several criticisms against his arguments. Al-Taftāzānī’s work, al- Talwīḥ, was received with great interest by Ottoman scholars, who then composed many ḥāshiyahs on it in the fifteenth century. Although the number of ḥāshiyahs significantly diminished, the practice of ḥāshiyah writing on al-Talwīḥ continued in the sixteenth century. Surūrī Chalabī (d. 969/1562) was one of the scholars who penned a ḥāshiyah on al-Talwīḥ during this period. The literary works of Surūrī Chalabī have recently been the subject of numerous academic studies, yet his legacy in Islamic sciences has not received the same interest.
