Brick manufacturing is one of the main industrial activities in the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal. The sector is the only coal-consuming sector in Kathmandu Valley and is also the second largest single source of air pollution after transport. A total of 110 bricks kilns exist inside the Kathmandu valley of which78 brick kilns were selected for the study. Only one brick kiln had VSBK technology while 77 brick kilns had induced draft BTK (Induced Draft) technology and this technology used Zigzag setting pattern for green brick stacking and single man Z pattern fuel feeding. Most of the induced draft BTK technologieshave been converted from natural BTK technology. Induced BTK is energy efficient and less polluting technology compared to the Natural draft kilns. A majority of kilns were using coal and agriculture residue as a fuel. Most of the brick kilns did not have any recorded information and a majority of the workers were unskilled. Stack emission and fugitive dust emission were the major issues of air pollutions. None of the kilns had any pollution control device and wind breaking wall. The average Suspended Particulate Matters (SPM) concentration was found to be 270.08 mg/Nm3 in BTK and 146.1 mg/Nm3 in VSBK which are within the limit of emission standards of Nepal. Although the kilns visited meet the national standards and black smoke was seen in the chimney during coal firing. The presence of black smoke indicates that the national standard set by Government is lenient and needs to be more stringent to compel the industries to be more environment friendly. \u0000How to cite this article: Sah DP, Chaudhary S, Shakya R et al. The study is a comparative-analytical study based on Mintzberg’s Managerial Model with ten roles that enable a manager to discharge his/ her duties more effectively and efficiently to their utmost abilities. Questionnaires were distributed among 69 A/ E consulting firms holding managerial positions. The data collected from the survey are analyzed based on managerial roles performed by A/ E manager from manager and employees’ viewpoints. Data is analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS, 23) with descriptive statistics, t-value and p-value methods. The results from the data show that leader role as the most dominant role played by A/ E managers from the A/ E managers’ and employees’ perspectives. Further the data are analyzed in accordance with the age, experience and qualification of A/ E manager in order to check the differences in the performances of the managerial roles. The results of this study would be a framework for A/ E managers to evaluate their managerial practices and modify them as necessary.","PeriodicalId":402805,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Research in Civil and Environmental Engineering","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132346421","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It makes the construction work simple, fast and improve the quality of work. Effective utilization, operation, maintenance and determination of appropriate hire rate for machine is challenging work for machine owner. The purpose of the study was to study the status of hiring business of heavy equipment in Nepal. Information about heavy equipment market was identified through structured questionnaire that was asked to machine owner, Heavy Equipment Entrepreneure's Association of Nepal (HEAN) members, authorized dealers of machine; group discussion with related personnel; reports and publication of HEAN, Department of Road (DOR) and Department of Transport Management (DOTM). From the study, it was found that numbers of machines are increasing but support facilities like workshop, skill mechanics and skill operator are not increasing in the same rate. Spare parts for repair and maintenance of heavy equipments are available but owners find the price more than what it should be.","PeriodicalId":402805,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Research in Civil and Environmental Engineering","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130847161","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Construction safety in the industry still suffers from ignorance and lack of supervision and accident rate on construction projects is very high. The objective of this study is to identify the awareness lunched in the construction industries that relate to safety, problems related ergonomic health and safety, and the status of safety engineering management as perceived by construction and consultancies to help reduction of accidents. A survey was conducted by using a numbers of questionnaires which was distributed to 38 respondents. Mishra","doi":"10.24321/2393.8307.201803","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.24321/2393.8307.201803","url":null,"abstract":"Before fiscal year 068/69, quality of procured pipes was not assessed in Department of Water Supply and Sewerage. Those High Density Polyethylene Pipes might not conform to quality standards and might have been reducing project life. Overall objective of this research was to analyze the quality of HDPE pipe based on laboratory test. All 21 set of test specimen result from different manufacturers have been analyzed’. The collected data were compared to the standards provided by Nepal Bureau of Standards and Metrology, which is NS 402042. This study was based on both qualitative and quantitative information gathered from visual and laboratory tests. NS 40 was published in 1983 and modified in 1985. Since then it is the document that governs Nepalese High Density Polyethylene Pipe industries. HDPE pipes produced from PE 100 are 47.97 percent lighter than PE 63. So, it should be adopted by Nepal Bureau of Standards and Metrology. PE 100 is only 5.27 percent more expensive than PE 63, so department should initiate to reduce the price of High Density Polyethylene Pipe. 2 and 2.5 kg pressure rated pipe are obsolete in procurement. As per the laboratory tests, it was found that Nepalese High Density Polyethylene Pipes met the quality standards. From the test analysis, it was also found that manufacturers intentionally lowered the weight than average and remained in the lower range to avoid failure in the laboratory test. Test certificates as per NS 40 should be mandatory in the frequency set by Nepal Bureau of Standards and Metrology. Office chief and Engineer should be assigned for quality assurance. Length and weight both should be considered in procurement process. Regional laboratory for High Density Polyethylene Pipe testing should be established by DWSS. Transportation cost of High Density Polyethylene Pipe should be based on analysis of transportation from truck up to the nearest road head. High Density Polyethylene Pipe fittings should be purchased based on the detailed drawing of pipeline network and actual need basis.","PeriodicalId":402805,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Research in Civil and Environmental Engineering","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122414202","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
