The main objective of this study was to assess the preparedness of health facilities to provide institutional delivery in Bangladesh. This study utilized data from the 2017 Bangladesh Health Facility Survey. Readiness of 1600 health facilities were measured using the service availability and readiness assessment manual of the World Health Organization. Health facilities were classified into public, private facilities, and NGO. Among the 1600 health facilities measured in this study, public facilities showed higher availability of normal delivery readiness whereas private facilities showed higher availability of caesarean delivery readiness. This study found a significant geographical variation in terms of readiness of health facilities to provide institutional delivery. In order to minimize the burden of preventable maternal deaths in Bangladesh, urgent improvement in all levels of health facilities, especially in health facilities of rural areas it is prerequisite to achieve the maternal health related targets of SDGs.\u0000Social Science Review, Vol. 38(1), June 2021 Page 17-32

It has stimulated Information Technology (IT) and provided other internet based needful public and private services to the millions of underserved people’s doorsteps at their convenience. By adopting this new dimension of entrepreneurship framework in rural economy, citizen friendly bottom-up development could be established. However, to introduce such set-up at periphery level, financial and technological support remains a big challenge. Hence, this study reveals the recent conditions and financial affairs of seven selected UDCs at Trishal Upazila. Both primary and secondary sources of data were collected from the studied area and in-depth interview of 23 individuals was taken in qualitative manner. It is observed that without generous financial supports it is very difficult to retain the financial solvency of the entrepreneurs. Sometimes, these massive financial liabilities, lack of logistic support, inadequate training and unskilled manpower are extensively responsible for gradual losing of interest to execute one stop shops services. Therefore, this study also suggested some necessary policy recommendations to strengthen UDC’s activities by successfully executing the Public Private Entrepreneurship model in studied area.\u0000Social Science Review, Vol. 38(1), June 2021 Page 133-156

Persian poets and their poems have reconstructed and revolutionized both the Eastern and Western literary world. Sadly, in a male-dominated Iranian society, female literary talents had been sidelined throughout centuries. Still, there were some iconic female poets who have blended their poetical talents with very powerful mental strength to cut off all the societal limitations, taboos and prohibitions and had left their marks on Persian literature's history forever. But to attain that, they had to come across a long way. As the title indicates, the subject of this article is about the growth of some of those persistent women poets of Iran, with an emphasis on the hardships they have faced and how they overcame through those phases. In short, this article analyses the problems of women poets in the context of the socio-political environment of Iran and discuss the efforts the women poets have to made to break those barriers. It has been evident that children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) face double challenge during the pandemic situation due to disrupted routine and unavailability of therapy resulting in some new adopted physiological symptoms that increases the risk of getting infected with corona virus. So, this study aims to find out the nature and causes of the physiological effects of Covid 19 pandemic on children with autism and at the same time suggest taking the proper action regarding these physiological phenomena reducing the of rate of vulnerability. The participants of this study are the parents and the therapists of the children (age range: 5-15 years) with ASD who have been chosen purposefully from Dhaka and Chattogram divisions, Bangladesh. Data has been collected from the participants with the questionnaire and focus group discussion tools through online platform zoom cloud. Results demonstrates that most of the children have an increase in body weight, reduced energy burning, and sleep disturbances since lockdown started that further worsen their hyperactivity suggesting the necessity of acting for the awareness of parents group and thus prevention of covid-19 among children with ASD.\u0000Social Science Review, Vol. 38(1), June 2021 Page 203-216

Mannan
Dhaka is the capital city and the single fastest growing metropolis in Bangladesh – by 2020 its population will have increased thirty-fold to over ten million. This rapid population growth is largely facilitated by mass rural-to-urban migration. The speed of urbanization and the enormous numbers involved make it one of the major development challenges of the 21st century (World Bank & Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies, 1998). Neither public nor private facilities can meet the basic human needs (food, water, shelter, sanitation, and a safe environment) of slum dwellers, most of whom also lack livelihood security. To understand the magnitude of urban poverty, this research explores the question of whether gender, age and marital status are indeed linked to livelihood vulnerability among the urban poor. It has utilized qualitative methods of data collection -FGDs, case studies (based on in depth-interviews) and participant observation from a selected slum in Dhaka- Begultila. Results of this study has indicated that both physical and emotional vulnerabilities have a crucial impact on the livelihood pattern of the slum dwellers of Begultila. To understand the state and nature of poverty in Begultila it is important to consider non-economic factors, which have a very strong role in enhancing vulnerability among the urban poor, particularly with children, women, and the elderly. This study sheds new light on urban poverty in relation to livelihood vulnerability; and consequently, highlights the diverse experiences of the urban poor and the livelihood insecurity that automatically categorizes them as one of the most vulnerable groups within the slum community. This form of livelihood vulnerability has a crucial effect on the nature and quality of life of the urban poor, particularly for women, which in turn, perpetuates the cycle of poverty. \u0000Social Science Review, Vol. 37(2), Dec 2020 Page 217-237

Since then, the virus has spread over all corners of the world and has been taking huge toll of people’s life. The nature of contamination and spread of the virus has disrupted all sorts of business and social activities let alone the supply chains. Supply chain professionals and their stakeholders are working hand in hand to tackle the challenges and exploring ways to covert the challenges into opportunities to tap on. Scholars with interest in supply chain management are not only scrutinizing the situation but also taking up research to analyse the situation and provide data driven, knowledge-based recommendations. This research takes an explorative approach to identify the major themes, approaches, findings, recommendations generated by the body of literature focusing on supply chain management issues during and after the COVID 19 pandemic. Recent research articles on the topic are identified and downloaded using key word search from Google Scholar, Taylor & Francis, Harvard Business Publishing, Elsevier, Wiley, Emerald and Springer sites. 20 articles were selected for in-depth analysis based on the following criteria-written in English, relevance to the topic, publication in peer reviewed journals listed in Scopus data base, and accessibility of full paper. The systematic analysis of literature done in this study helps in identification and categorization of the key research in the field in terms of their context, focus, current and potential impacts, prescribed responses, and future outlooks. The study also detects the research gaps and offers direction to advance future research on the topic. These women are working in different shopping malls, fashion houses and beauty parlours of the city which was impossible for them few decades ago. This study has replicated the theoretical position of Lefebvre (1991) on production of space and Harvey (1989) on spatial practices. Tonkiss’s (2005) ‘Geography of gender’ has been used to describe the gendering and spatializing the new urban space of Dhaka. In short, the study has collected data using survey method and supplemented the quantitative findings with qualitative data by some unique and informative case studies. It reveals that the new urban space of Dhaka has been produced by increasing consumerism and the rise of private service sectors where huge numbers of women are working nowadays. It further exposes that the empowerment of women and simultaneously the unemployment of men is contributing to unleashing traditional patriarchy from being confined to domestic spheres. Men are now harassing women in public place more than ever before to hold up their masculinity symbolically. Consequently, women’s free movement in the public space is being restricted by their perception and experience of harassment by certain male population of the city and by women’s protective negotiation of the space. The paper thus argues that harassment against women in the public space in Dhaka has recently been connected to increasing participation of women in private service sectors during the recent neoliberal transformations. \u0000Social Science Review, Vol. 37(2), Dec 2020 Page 125-144

Women’s empowerment in the local government structures and processes has a substantial influence on the National Gender Policy of Bangladesh. This study has critically assessed the extent of the women’s participation in the decisionmaking processes of the Local Government Institutions (LGIs) through participants’ observation, qualitative and quantitative methods. The study evolves the success and failure attempts of the women’s participation in the LGI’s structures and decision-making processes as per Local Government (Union Parishad) Act-2009. The study also finds the UPs are too politicized to make them socially inclusive, pro-poor friendly and distribute equally the benefits of aids and social safety net services. The centralized power of UP chairs, manipulation and tokenism practices in the UP’s governance and decision-making processes had diminished the gender sensitivity, transparency, and accountability of the institution. The study also suggests increasing the number of women representatives in UP’s structures, making functional the roles of woman’s vice-chair, activating the Ward level meetings, standing committees and project implementation committees, as well as regularizing the effective monitoring with transparent and accountable manner for making the UP gender responsive and people oriented. \u0000Social Science Review, Vol. 37(2), Dec 2020 Page 267-286

Since the 1970s the emergence of the readymade garment (RMG) industry has provided women with opportunities for waged work into the public sphere and linked them into the global economy. By using Naila Kabeer’s conceptualisation of empowerment and Walby’s theory of patriarchy as theoretical lenses of analysis, this paper examines what happens when women are empowered in the economic sphere and whether that transfers over into the domestic sphere in terms of changes in patriarchal relations. Evidence from semi-structured interviews with 40 female garment workers, the paper analyses their lives outside the workplace. It argues that experience of paid work can offer female RMG workers a degree of empowerment within home and society, but the level of this varied for women. For “Independent” and “Progressive” women the state of gender relations was changing to an extent as a result of paid employment, whereas “Traditional” women’s entry into the workplace had not brought about any change in the private form of patriarchy. Overall, women’s participation in paid employment such as their role as a wage earner, their increased freedom of movement and autonomy, self-confidence, a greater degree of awareness regarding their life decisions presents a radical challenge to the myth of the male breadwinner model of the family in Bangladesh and the notion of patriarchy. \u0000Social Science Review, Vol. 37(2), Dec 2020 Page 239-265

The sector, however, faces challenges. One major challenge is low efficiency. In a resourcepoor country, inefficiency leads to the waste of available resources widening the financing gap of the health sector. A technically efficient production unit produces a large amount of output with a given amount of inputs using a given state of technology. Technical efficiency of the district hospitals in Bangladesh is measured using the secondary source of data applying stochastic frontier analysis. Results show that the efficiency of some facilities is quite low and there is a mismatch of utilization rate and efficiency levels of the district hospitals.
