The method consists of two phases: the training phase and the classification phase. During training, examples of bones from each class are collected so that the allowable shape deformations for each class are learnt. A model representing each class is generated. These models are subsequently used to classify new examples of the bones. During classification all models are compared to the input image and the object is assigned to the class whose model is the closest match. Experimental results obtained using 120 images of the third distal and middle phalanxes showed the usefulness of the method for classifying these bones into their proper stages of maturity.","PeriodicalId":402369,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Third International Conference on Electronics, Circuits, and Systems","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-10-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128875425","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

RASTA-PLP analysis of the speech signal resulting to mel-cepstral coefficients and a formant tracking method are used in order to provide the feature vectors for the MLP. To train and test the system we used a part of the TIMIT database. The results indicate that the performance of this classifier for speaker independent vowel classification is approximately 98.5% so it can be favorably used for speaker recognition or speech labeling purposes.","PeriodicalId":402369,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Third International Conference on Electronics, Circuits, and Systems","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-10-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115183632","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents an efficient method for recognizing isolated musical patterns played by Creek Traditional Clarinet, in a monophonic environment. The Discrete Time Wavelet Transform of the signal is calculated. The highest scales, along with the lowpass residue of the Wavelet Transform, are treated as signals and the spectrogram of each one of them is calculated. The spectrograms are in turn treated as 2-D images. A number of translation and scaling invariant moments are then computed for the resulting images. These moments are used as features, and turn out to cluster around certain points in the corresponding multidimensional feature space, for the various musical patterns. Tree-like structured classification procedure is then adopted for classification. A few clusters correspond to more than one musical pattern. In such case a Dynamic Time Warping procedure is employed to determine the specific pattern.","PeriodicalId":402369,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Third International Conference on Electronics, Circuits, and Systems","volume":"170 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-10-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124145991","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A novel algorithm for the computation of the LNS cosine, based on the subtraction function, is presented and extended to compute all trigonometric functions. The proposed algorithms show a major advantage over other methods in terms of memory requirements (up to 94% improvement as opposed to direct polynomial approximation) and computational speed. A hardware implementation of an elementary LNS trigonometric processor with 12-bit accuracy is also presented, to illustrate the feasibility of extending the LNS processors to include trigonometric functions.","PeriodicalId":402369,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Third International Conference on Electronics, Circuits, and Systems","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-10-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116028092","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper we propose a means for selecting the unknown part of a complex ideal response optimally. By selecting a proper L/sub 2/ criterion and using variational techniques we succeed in minimizing the criterion with respect to the ideal response and thus obtain its corresponding optimum form. The complete solution to the problem can be obtained by solving a simple system of linear equations suggesting a reduced complexity for the proposed method. Using the optimum form of the ideal response we also propose a new suboptimal method for the design of weighted FIR filters. Design examples are presented to illustrate the performance of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":402369,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Third International Conference on Electronics, Circuits, and Systems","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-10-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123547886","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Both-ICT and MICT-transforms are the integer approximations of DCT. As the properties of ICT and MICT are close to those of DCT and their transform kernel is based on integers their computational complexity is less than in the case of DCT. Based on this DCT can be replaced by ICT and MICT, for example in transform coding of images (JPEG, MPEG, ITU-T H.261, etc.).","PeriodicalId":402369,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Third International Conference on Electronics, Circuits, and Systems","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-10-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123999979","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They have been successfully used for spatially invariant shape recognition using a cumbersome rotational invariance algorithm. Within this paper a new rotational invariance algorithm is presented which makes the recognition process inherently rotationally invariant. A full discussion of fractal recognition is given and previous results discussed. The new algorithm is detailed and applied to a difficult recognition problem. The results of this application show that the new algorithm is successful in achieving the desired effect.","PeriodicalId":402369,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Third International Conference on Electronics, Circuits, and Systems","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-10-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125932144","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We address a new restricted factorization method to synthesis a combinational function as a two-dimensional multi-level array. This is an integrated logic and layout synthesis method which can be used for full custom design such as module generation or for locally-connected fine-grain FPGAs. We defined a new multi-bus architecture, and developed an algorithm to solve the synthesis problem. The benchmark results show encouraging improvements over previous approaches.","PeriodicalId":402369,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Third International Conference on Electronics, Circuits, and Systems","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-10-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122350075","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
