That record can be a monument, building, or any other grand or not so grand gesture. This activity was designed to show the authority and power of an entire nation at a given moment in time. Indonesia has had six leaders of state in its 65 years of independence. They usually leave a symbol or sign from their period of leadership. Those representations of power, in the form of architectural space, are not only created from a pride but also a conflict in that societal period. This paper discusses the signs and symbols of architecture as seen in urban facilities and housing design. Sign and Symbol in architecuter has been especially revealed in the disharmony seen in space authorization since the governance of president Soekarno through to the reformation era. The descriptive method is applied to trace the signs and symbols left by all leaders of Indonesia in the form of architecture. The semiotics theory is employed in this paper to analyze building design. The research results reveal the input of Indonesia’s leaders, the architectural signs of such leadership with their visions of sustainable environments and, where those signs inspire pride and harmony rather than conflict.","PeriodicalId":401620,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 18th International Conference on Sustainable Environment and Architecture (SENVAR 2018)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129612786","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, study on thermal comfort is always associated with terrace houses. Installing roof thermal insulation is important in energy saving, however, due to the availability of air conditioning it has not been a regular practice. To reduce air conditioning usage, thermal insulation must be installed under the roof. The study aims to determine the awareness level among professionals and terrace housing occupants on the importance of installing roof thermal insulation in terrace houses in Malaysia. Studies were made on government’s initiative towards roof thermal insulation, current practice by developers and architects, and terrace housing occupants’ knowledge on roof thermal insulation. The study was supported by review and analysis of previous research, government’s official publications, magazines, books and websites. The study found that professionals are aware on the importance of the roof thermal insulation for comfort and energy saving while occupants are very much less aware of its important. At the moment, the area is accessible by public transportation mode. However, to create the atmosphere of the river city and to prevent the extinction of river transportation as well as to create the visitor interaction with the river community, Banjarmasin needs a stronger connection between heritage sites and the character of the river city. This research focused on exploring the potencies of heritage tourism in Banjarmasin both tangible and intangible, in the riverside. Human needs are defined by ten elements of: size, degree of safety, contrast, humanistic scale, distance, texture, color, odor, sound, and the variety in physical environment. So far, numerous studies have been carried out on the sense of belonging to place, but a few number of them has ever studied the effect of the ten above-mentioned elements of belonging to place on the tourism development as a progressive industry. Therefore, it was hypothesized that there is a positive relationship between these ten elements of belonging to place and the Development of Tourism Industry. This effect was studied in a descriptive-analytic survey. The main research method is to study the effect of this sense as a basic need on the Development of Tourism in the Shahrekord as tourist site in Iran,, the satisfaction of tourists of ten factors proposed by Fritz Steele as physical, social and environmental factors creating a sense of belonging to place were evaluated. The results revealed that there is a positive and meaningful relationship between any of these elements and tourist attraction in a way that elements like environmental contrast, sound, odor, materials, visual variety, humanistic scale, distance to tourist attraction, size, color, and security of the place, cause an increase in satisfaction of place and Development of Tourism Industry in the cities, respectively","PeriodicalId":401620,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 18th International Conference on Sustainable Environment and Architecture (SENVAR 2018)","volume":"94 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125246117","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
