This paper presents a comparison of Creeper, an algorithm for sequential decoding, and the Viterbi algorithm. Creeper is an algorithm which combines the best properties of both the stack and the Fano algorithms. It requires less memory than the stack algorithm and has no backward moves as in the Fano algorithm. Some results of simulation show that Creeper is an interesting alternative to the Viterbi algorithm.","PeriodicalId":401041,"journal":{"name":"The 8th International Conference on Communication Systems, 2002. The general form for the ICI power is derived by taking into consideration the correlation equation of the Rician channel. We have derived a equation for estimating the frequency tracking parameter. We also present examples by using ideal beamforming at the mobile. For a multiple Rician channel, it shows that the reduction in ICI power is not as much as in the case of Rayleigh channel. However, in the presence of only one Rician path, the reduction in ICI power is marginally better than the Rayleigh channel.","PeriodicalId":401041,"journal":{"name":"The 8th International Conference on Communication Systems, 2002. However, the SONET network is suitable for constant bit rate (CBR) traffic. Therefore, it cannot effectively handle the burst-natured metropolitan area networks traffic. This paper proposed a novel MAN network architecture and protocol by using the wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technique to efficiently share the network bandwidth among every network nodes. The proposed novel network architecture adopts carrier sense multiple access with carrier preemption (CSMA/CP) that is a media access control (MAC) protocol to handle the variable size IP packet transport on WDM MAN ring network. This paper also shows the simulation results to verify the proposed MAC protocol is able to take more efficiently utilization and lower packet latency. Further developments are proposed to improve the efficiency and add new capabilities such as QoS.","PeriodicalId":401041,"journal":{"name":"The 8th International Conference on Communication Systems, 2002. A network performability index given, the reliability indices of the object with multiple working-state are defined for the first time. The method is used to examine the reliability of the fiber industry network (FIN) by way of Monte Carlo simulations. The results for FIN show that the method is efficient for reliability evaluation of industrial control networks thus can be used as a tool to design highly reliable industry networks.","PeriodicalId":401041,"journal":{"name":"The 8th International Conference on Communication Systems, 2002. And the development of value added services based upon the GSM standard is becoming increasingly important to both network operators and the subscribers to such networks. This paper outlines a wireless service system capable of providing real time information of the public transport service system in Singapore. The system allows a subscriber to the service to receive travel information on demand. primarily by means of short messages delivered to their GSM mobile phone. Most importantly. this system integrates bus and mass rapid transit information together in contrast to the existing SMS service on bus guide by SingTel, a leading telecom company in Singapore where it only provides bus information. The system also provides bus arrival information that allows a subscriber to acquire the arrival times of bus services at a bus stop. In addition, a subscriber is able to flag a bus through SMS while on the way to the bus stop and while a subscriber is reaching a particular bus stop, he/she will be alerted through SMS by the system. In this paper, a working prototype is designed to realise all possible factors of the system.","PeriodicalId":401041,"journal":{"name":"The 8th International Conference on Communication Systems, 2002. This approach is based on the aggregation of individual flows into classes and on the provisioning of QoS to the class instead of a single flow. With these developments, it is important to model and characterize the traffic flows on a per class basis in order to plan and manage these networks to meet performance objectives (QoS) as required by various traffic classes. This paper addresses the problem of characterizing class-based traffic flows in a multiservice IP network. It provides simple models that can be used to take measurement-based data and translate it into a form that is suitable for implementing dimensioning and planning functions in these networks.","PeriodicalId":401041,"journal":{"name":"The 8th International Conference on Communication Systems, 2002.
