To overcome the limitation of the fixed energy in bio-logging systems, a prototype of data logger system using a vibrationpowered generator was developed, and the feasibility of utilizing the oscillation energy of aquatic animals as external sources of the power was investigated. The system was composed of a vibration-powered generator and data logger part incorporating 3-axis acceleration, pressure, and temperature sensors, and these were connected via a 5 m bending resistance cable. The system can initiate sensor measurements and writing to the memory alternately when enough voltage (5 V) is charged in a capacitor in the data logger part. The generator was attached to the peduncle of the fish simultaneously with another small data logger measuring the acceleration of caudal fin movement reflected to the generator, and then the fish was released in a tank. While the fish actively swam in the experimental tank (general frequency and amplitude of the caudal fin movement in steady swimming: 1.76 Hz and 0.32 g, respectively), it was impossible to initiate the sensor measurements because there was not enough electricity charged in the capacitor. However, the voltage in the capacitor, which was manually charged to 4 V before the experiment, decreased more slowly in the data from the fish experiment than the data from the control experiment without the vibration-powered generator. This suggested that it was succeeded in producing the electricity from the fish movement while the electricity discharge rate in the capacitor was larger than the charging rate. Although this study cannot solve the technological issues around the efficiency in the vibration-powered generator, it showed the possibility of harvesting energy from the aquatic animal’s oscillation.","PeriodicalId":400958,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Marine Science and Technology Society","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131349349","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there exists considerable disagreement among the observed values. The disagreement is especially large in the context of the different sea surface conditions (wind wave growth and swell etc.). Consequently, many models of the air-sea CO2 gas transfer velocity are proposed by field and laboratory experiments. In this study, we evaluate the estimated global air-sea CO2 gas flux using the different some air-sea CO2 gas transfer velocity models (field experiment model, laboratory experiment model and hybrid model considering wave breaking). The 6-hourly wind speed and mean period of wind and wave data sets by ECMWF were used. The maximum difference of annual global air-sea CO2 gas flux was 0.76 PgC/year. The annual global air-sea CO2 gas flux of each laboratory experiment models were the smallest value, and each hybrid models were near value to each field experiment models. The difference of each model in low latitude is large, same as the difference in middle latitude. This shows that the difference of the result of each model in low latitude is significant for the estimation of air-sea CO2 gas flux.","PeriodicalId":400958,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Marine Science and Technology Society","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127345654","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We demonstrated simultaneous identification of multiple signals using a new phase modulation-coded telemetry system. We deployed eight transmitters with a 1.28-s signal transmitting interval at the same location, and two receivers that were 18.5 m and 38.0 m away from the transmitters. The detection rates of the two receivers during 15 min of recording were 77.0% and 73.0%. These results show that multiple signals from several transmitters were detected simultaneously by the receivers and were discriminated at high resolution (<2 s). This new telemetry system will be useful in studies on fish schooling behavior, aggregation, and predator-prey interactions.","PeriodicalId":400958,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Marine Science and Technology Society","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115930451","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
