The character shape and the style of writing are visually different from one to another. Handwriting identification is a process to identify or verify the authorship of a handwriting document. Asserting authorship identity based on handwritten text requires three steps: Data acquisition and preprocessing, Feature extraction and Classification. The main issue in handwriting identification is how to get the features that reflect the varieties of handwriting. It has been shown in literature that there are a significant number of feature extraction techniques developed and employed for handwriting identification; however, the importance of a specific feature in handwriting identification has not been entirely investigated.","PeriodicalId":400165,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Signal and Image Processing Applications","volume":"138 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121587412","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The BIA technique based on the passing of low-amplitude electrical current less than 1 mA (500 to 800µA) with frequency 50kHz. During hospitalization, 210 patients who are 119 males and 91 females serologically confirmed DF and DHF patients were tested using single BIA. By using multiple regression analysis, race, reactance, complication, headache and the day of fever were found independent determinants of predicting the risk. Hence, this novel approach of BIA technique can provide rapid, non-invasive, and promising method for classifying and evaluating the status of the DHF patients.","PeriodicalId":400165,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Signal and Image Processing Applications","volume":" 100","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120827699","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In doing so, two three-dimensional surface models, the Volterra model and a fuzzy B-Spline model, which construct a global topological structure between the data points, were used to support an approximation to the real surface. The statistical differences between real bathymetry map, CVV band and LHH band showed that the best reconstruction of coastal bathymetry was obtained with polarised L with 10 m spatial resolution of TOPSAR data, bias of − 0.04 and the standard error mean of 0.05 m in depth determination was obtained with LHH band.","PeriodicalId":400165,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Signal and Image Processing Applications","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121362872","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our previously proposed high-speed free viewpoint image reconstruction method is composed of deterministic parallel processes without conditional branches. Therefore, it is very effective for the method to be implemented to hardware such as FPGA. Actually, we construct free viewpoint image reconstruction systems based on Xilinx FPGA for further acceleration, and some experimental results by using synthetic images are shown.","PeriodicalId":400165,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Signal and Image Processing Applications","volume":"88 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122690883","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These patterns are more invariant to illuminance and face expression compared to traditional one. After getting the local feature patterns, in order to take alignment of face into account, a novel matching method called Histogram Spatially constrained Earth Mover's Distance(HSEMD) is proposed. In this step, the source image is partitioned into non-overlapping local regions while the destination image is represented as a set of overlapping local regions at different positions. Meanwhile, multi-scale cascade mechanism is studied for extracting more feature patterns and obtaining global information of the face. The performance of the proposed method is assessed in the face recognition problem under different challenges. The experimental results show that the proposed method has higher accuracy than some other classic methods.","PeriodicalId":400165,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Signal and Image Processing Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130054985","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This system involved the process of collecting samples with different level of ripeness, image processing and image classification by using artificial neural network. Collecting bananas sample is done by using Microsoft NX6000 webcam with 2 mega pixels. 32 samples were used as training samples for artificial neural network. In order to see whether the method mention above can classify the image correctly, another 28 images was used as a testing. From the result obtained, it was shown that the artificial neural network can generally classify the ripeness of bananas. This is because it can classify up to 25 samples correctly out of 28 samples. Developing a program totally by using Matlab version 7.0 can help classification process successfully.","PeriodicalId":400165,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Signal and Image Processing Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130474676","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, an error resilience method is proposed for the depth data of the stereoscopic 3D video using data partitioning. Although data partitioning method is available for 2D video, its extension to depth information has not been investigated in the context of stereoscopic 3D video. Simulation results show that the depth data is less sensitive to error and should be partitioned towards the end of the data partitions block. The partitioned depth data is then applied to an error resilience method namely multiple description coding (MDC) to code the 2D video and the depth information. Simulation results show improved performance using the proposed depth partitioning on MDC compared to the original MDC in an error prone environment.","PeriodicalId":400165,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Signal and Image Processing Applications","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133156655","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sputum or tissues samples are stained using this method before microscopic examination. However, manual screening is time consuming and tedious process. Therefore, an automated image processing and analysis system for improving the manual screening of samples is desirable. Unfortumately, the quality of images being observed is influenced by some factors such as illumination, staining and noise problem. Image enhancement is a necessary part of image processing technique used to improve the quality of images being captured. This paper investigates the performance of linear stretching based on RGB and HSI colour spaces. In RGB colour space, linear stretching of each RGB component is carried out, while in HSI colour space, linear stretching is performed on S and I components. Both RGB and HSI linear stretchign are applies to enhance the Ziehl-Neelsen tissue slide images that have been analysed under light microscope and capture using digital camera. Although both techniques are quite simple, the results indicate that these methods may have potential to be used in enhancing Ziehl-Neelsen tissue slide images. However, overall analyses indicates that linear stretching based on HSI colour spaces performed better enhancement compares to RGB based linear stretching.","PeriodicalId":400165,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Signal and Image Processing Applications","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117152060","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As this framework detects possible events occurring in video clips, it forms the annotating base of a video search engine. To achieve this purpose, the system has to able to operate on uncontrolled wide-domain videos. Thus, all layers have to be based on generic features. The aim is to help bridge the “semantic gap“, which is the difference between the low-level visual features and the human's perception, by finding videos with similar visual events, then analyzing their free text annotation to find the best description for this new video using commonsense knowledgebases. Experiments were performed on wide-domain video clips from the TRECVID 2005 BBC rush standard database. Results from these experiments show promising integrity between those two layers in order to find expressing annotations for the input video. These results were evaluated based on retrieval performance.","PeriodicalId":400165,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Signal and Image Processing Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128942529","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The descriptors examined are related to the context of person recognition through face and body-patch feature matching in personal digital photos. In order to identify the best performing content-based descriptors, we first study a number of colour and texture descriptors for body-patch matching and face recognition descriptors for face matching using a suitably chosen data set taken from typical personal photo collections. We then analyse the performance of three different fusion schemes to identify the best combination of colour, texture and face recognition descriptors. Finally, we apply those descriptors to the problem of person annotation and measure their performance using a test data set, which comprises 7 different real-life personal photo collections. The experimental results illustrate that combining body-patch feature matching with face recognition significantly improves the performance of person annotation. We further show that combining colour with texture leads to improved performance of body-patch matching. The content-based image descriptors identified in this paper show great potential for person annotation in personal photo management applications.","PeriodicalId":400165,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Signal and Image Processing Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131046633","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
