Beginning in the northern region and a region that was influenced by the Port of Buleleng, Chinatown shophouses began to grow throughout time. The study uses a qualitative descriptive methodology to explain the conclusions drawn from both primary and secondary sources of information. The architectural features of Chinatown shophouses are discussed in this study, including their physical characteristics, figural qualities connected to their shapes and materials, and spatial characteristics relating to their functions and zoning of space. Physical characteristics are categorized into types of buildings according to the number of floors and the materials used, and the typology is based on the era in which the shophouse was constructed. The results of this study on spatial character reveal that a building’s ground floor is divided into front, middle, and back, with the front zone serving a commercial function, the middle zone serving a residential function, and the back zone serving a service function. On both the ground floor and the top floor, the altar room is always located in the front zone.","PeriodicalId":400116,"journal":{"name":"Architectural Research Journal (ARJ)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131409587","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On the other hand, cities need regional identity, one of which can be obtained from the sustainability of local values. This paper aims to find the role of locality in restaurant preferences as an alternative to family recreational tourism in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY). Data was obtained through a survey via online questionnaire at the end of 2022 with a total of 115 respondents. As a result, it was found that the number of respondents who explicitly chose a restaurant based on the appearance of the locality aspect was not significant. Even so, the data shows that the restaurants that are favorite by respondents to visit with their families in order to achieve recreational goals tend to have elements of locality, especially in the material and shape aspects. This is thought to be influenced by the character of the majority of families who are invited to enjoy the restaurant by respondents, namely the parents of pre-elderly and elderly respondents who are influenced by nostalgia factors in their preferences as consumers.","PeriodicalId":400116,"journal":{"name":"Architectural Research Journal (ARJ)","volume":"283 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131419869","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This regulation contains all the regulations regarding the layout of architectural forms, including the area limits relating to the area of the site and the allowable height limits. It is suspected that the concept of this regulation adopted from a European country so that its application often encounters problems, because the concept that is suspected of adopting one of the European countries has not been adapted to the geographical conditions of Indonesia. The regulation regulates the floor area which is calculated as the edge of the building with the percentage of the site area, even though for Indonesia's geographical conditions, shade is needed which takes up an additional area beyond the floor area. The rule regarding the height of the building is measured by the height of the top floor, even though according to Indonesia's geographical characteristics, where the sun passes through, it requires a roof that can reduce the heat and accelerate the drainage of rainwater. In Indonesia, which is known for its many varieties of architecture that follow local characteristics, it gets less attention. As a result, several traditional house architectural characters disappeared, which were quite numerous and varied. In this discussion, we look for formulas for building regulations that take into account geographical conditions and architectural variations \u0000 ","PeriodicalId":400116,"journal":{"name":"Architectural Research Journal (ARJ)","volume":"102 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132000939","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is what makes the Nias community built so that they can adapt to the environment by utilizing wood materials in the structural system of the house. This study aims to determine the pattern of loading on Nias houses, as well as the placement of wood types in the composition of the structural elements of the house. This is to answer the formulation of the research problem, namely how is the relationship between the material and the structural system of the house to respond to the earthquake problem. The research was conducted by collecting data from journals and other sources, and making models from the data obtained. Then the data obtained were analyzed quantitatively by comparing the specifications of the wood to its placement in the structure of the house. The placement of the type of wood on the Nias house structure depends on the strength and durability of the wood, the higher the grade of wood, the wood is used as the main structure of the house and in the foundation of the house.","PeriodicalId":400116,"journal":{"name":"Architectural Research Journal (ARJ)","volume":"116 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124086365","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this case, there were many discussions that featured Eko Prawoto as an architect with the theme of local architecture, but the subject of this research questioned him. Therefore, this study discusses how the identity and concept of the natural locality of Eko Prawoto's residential works are expressed through architectural tectonics. The architectural biographical approach is used in qualitative inductive research through an emic view. The focus of this research topic is on the process of expressing the image of residential buildings through architectural tectonics. The results obtained are in the form of processing materials, techniques, and flavors in the process of building a house. This discussion is important to straighten the concept of local architecture and the meaning of architectural works through a biographical approach. A child who lives in a city has a different experience of space from one who lives in a village, as well as those who live by the river and those who live on the edge of the railroad tracks. This study aims to trace the meaning of placeness for children in suburbs with weak economic conditions and still living in non-permanent homes. Placeness will be tracked through the resulting image. The method used is observation and interpretation. Observations are done by looking at the condition of the house and the surrounding environment, then giving instructions and facilities for children to draw a house according to their dreams. The drawing process is observed with minimal guidance so that children can be more free, imaginative, and creative in producing drawings. After that, the drawings were collected and asked each child to explain its meaning, the child's explanation was added with a description of the interpretation using a content analysis approach. Research showed that each child draws a dream house that is different from the house they live in, the drawing of the house is made permanent, larger and mostly multi-storey (two floors), there is a river, a swimming pool, with trees and flowers around it and a picture of the sun and clouds in the background.
