The aim of this study is to present preliminary results of the interdisciplinary orthogeriatric activity at the Surgical Specialty Centre, Hamad Medical Corporation (Doha, Qatar).</div></div><div><h3>Methods</h3><div>A prospective observational study was designed to evaluate the activity of the orthogeriatric unit in hip fracture patients between 2022 and 2024.</div></div><div><h3>Results</h3><div>100 patients were recruited with a mean age of 74.2 (SD 7.8) years, 57% were men, and a mean age-adjusted Charlson comorbidity index (CCI) of 4.4 (SD 1.7). Surgical delay was 1.8 (SD 3.4) days, with only 16% of the total undergoing surgery in more than 48<!--> <!-->h. The length of stay (LOS) of the enrolled sample was 15.8 (SD 23.1) days. In terms of functional recovery, the Barthel Index (BI) score increased significantly from 34.8 (SD 14.8) points on the first day of hospital admission to 55.7 (20.5) points at discharge, <em>p</em> <!-->&lt;<!--> <!-->0.001; with a relative functional gain of 38.5 (SD 34.3) % and a rehabilitation efficiency (Heinemann Index above 50%) of 34.5%. The Heinemann Index calculated six months after discharge showed a rehabilitation efficiency of 60% of the total sample. Only one patient (1%) died in hospital and 3 (6%) had died at 6 months. This study evaluated the degree of negative stereotypes towards old age in social work students and their relation with different variables.</div></div><div><h3>Method</h3><div>Descriptive cross-sectional study, incidental sample. A total of 124 students participated; they filled in the Questionnaire of Negative Stereotypes towards Old Age (CENVE) and provided data on previous studies, degree of contact with elderly people, fear of old age and death, among others. Application of the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test revealed that the CENVE total score did not follow a normal distribution. Correlational analyses were applied based on Spearman's Rho correlation coefficient. Kruskal-Wallis H-tests and Mann-Whitney U-tests were used for between-group comparisons.</div></div><div><h3>Results</h3><div>Relation is found among CENVE scores according to course, age, taking Social Work and Aging and age aging starts.</div></div><div><h3>Conclusions</h3><div>Negative stereotypes towards old age are present in a large part of the sample of students, although with a low intensity. Aging is part of the life cycle and should be done with dignity. Given the increasing ageing population and the risks posed by climate change in the spread of this infection, the study examines whether regular physical activity can help to preserve functional autonomy in elderly individuals affected by Chikungunya.</div></div><div><h3>Methods</h3><div>A descriptive, cross-sectional, and comparative study was conducted with 54 physically active older adults. Participants were divided into two groups: one affected by Chikungunya and the other with no history of the disease. Variables such as the presence and intensity of joint pain were assessed using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), and the GDLAM protocol was employed to evaluate the functional autonomy of the participants. Statistical analyses were performed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS).</div></div><div><h3>Results</h3><div>Although Chikungunya affected several joints of the elderly, particularly the knees and shoulders, the perception of pain varied according to the phase of the disease, being moderate in the acute phase and mild in the chronic and subacute phases. The aim of this study was to develop the Multidimensional Frailty Scale, originally called the <em>Escala de Fragilidad Multidimensional</em> (EFM), to assess the physical, cognitive, affective, social, and environmental dimensions of frailty in individuals aged 65 and over and to conduct the initial phases of the validation process. This was carried out over the course of three sequential studies.</div></div><div><h3>Methods</h3><div>A series of items were developed for each dimension and then evaluated by a panel of 13 experts. Subsequently, cognitive interviews were conducted with a sample of 23 older adults to examine the response processes. Finally, a pilot study was performed with a sample of 50 individuals aged between 65 and 98 years.</div></div><div><h3>Results</h3><div>The panel of experts awarded the items a mean appropriateness rating of between 3.18 and 4 out of 4. The cognitive interviews provided insight into response processes and comprehension difficulties. The corrected item-dimension correlations ranged between .02 and .83. Based on the results obtained in the three studies, some items were removed. The sample consisted of 100 older adults, men and women, with an average age (<em>M</em> <!-->=<!--> <!-->69, SD<!--> <!-->=<!--> <!-->6.6) of low socioeconomic stratum. The measurement instruments used were the IKIGAI-9 Life Purpose Scale, the BRCS Resilience Scale, the DASS-21 Scale (anxiety, depression and stress), the UCLA Brief Loneliness Scale and the CAPS-19 Quality of Life Scale.</div></div><div><h3>Results</h3><div>Statistical analyses indicated that there was no significant association between gender and the psychological variables of the study, except for the resilience variable. This study examines the predictors of loneliness in individuals over 65 years of age, focusing on sociodemographic variables (age, marital status, and educational level) and psychological factors (depressive symptoms and hopelessness).</div></div><div><h3>Methods</h3><div>An analysis was conducted with 246 older adults over 65 years who lived independently. Variables were assessed using the following instruments: the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CES-D) for depression, the Beck Hopelessness Scale (BHS) for hopelessness, and the UCLA Loneliness Scale for loneliness. Binary logistic regression was applied to evaluate the relationship between these variables, as well as age, marital status, and educational level, and the likelihood of experiencing loneliness.</div></div><div><h3>Results</h3><div>The results indicate that age and high scores on depression (CES-D) and negative expectations (BHS) significantly increase the likelihood of experiencing loneliness. A higher educational level was found to be a protective factor, reducing the likelihood of loneliness. However, neither marital status nor loss of motivation on the BHS were significant predictors.</div></div><div><h3>Conclusions</h3><div>The study confirms that both sociodemographic and psychological factors influence the perception of loneliness in old age.
