In some applications, many transactions must be not only executed correctly but also completed within their deadlines, and soma data may become invalid after a certain duration of time. For some of these advanced applications, transactions are long and complicated. A transaction model beyond the conventional single-level transaction models is needed to manage the complexity. In order to extend current real-time transactions to a nested transaction model several issues need to be explored or re-examined. We discuss two important issues: how to propagate deadlines from a transaction to its subtransactions and how to control concurrent execution of nested transactions.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":399167,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2nd IEEE Workshop on Real-Time Applications","volume":"197 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131806977","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The designed system consists of two modules: network monitoring and status diagnosis. Network monitoring module is responsible for getting ATM interface information defined by a set of managed objects. Upon receiving these object values from the first model, the status diagnosis module, built by using counter propagation neuron technology, is triggered to detect switch status. From the test results, we believe that the interface fault diagnosis system will be a valuable and potential tool in future network industry.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":399167,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2nd IEEE Workshop on Real-Time Applications","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126148814","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The use of a viewpoint-oriented methodology for the design and specification of real-time systems is applied in a case study, the development of a train control system. The method expresses the requirements to be put on the system by taking into account five different viewpoints. Each view is expressed using existing techniques. The design methodology shows to be applicable to the development of train control systems because it addresses aspects like timing constraints, safety and availability issues of such systems. This paper deals with designing a train control system by adopting a viewpoint-oriented methodology. It is aimed at a correct specification and design of the train control system.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":399167,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2nd IEEE Workshop on Real-Time Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129211302","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, it is necessary to propose reactive modes management capable of providing in real time necessary information helping the reconfiguration and the changing of mode in FMS. From the FMS description, we construct soft bricks corresponding to machine roundups and to abstractions of the FMS. This real-time middleware supports programming of real-time systems based on rate-monotonic analysis (RMA) and an active object model (real-time object model). RMA is a method to guarantee timing constraints in real-time systems, and an active object model provides us with timing encapsulation for programs. Therefore, the middleware enables us to develop predictable and flexible real-time systems. A data acquisition system, which is a part of a monitoring system, is a target of the middleware. We show that the system is proved to be schedulable as predicted.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":399167,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2nd IEEE Workshop on Real-Time Applications","volume":"59 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129694864","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The distributed load is assumed to be homogeneous and arbitrarily divisible with no particular affinity to individual processors. The heterogeneous processors may or may not have front-end subprocessors, and are characterized by their load processing speeds and I/O speeds pertaining to the transmission of excess load or reception of additional load. The objective of load redistribution, which is carried out during runtime, is to minimize the job execution completion time consisting of the sum of processing lime and I/O time. Depending on the value of total load, the optimal load redistribution is found to be either unique or to admit a multiplicity of solutions. In the first case, all processors complete processing in the same amount of time, which is equal to the minimum job completion time. In the second case, the infinite set of optimal redistributions is represented by load allocations for the individual processors that can range over specified intervals, and the completion limes for the different processors are generally not equal.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":399167,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2nd IEEE Workshop on Real-Time Applications","volume":"09 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126516888","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
