Nevertheless, they have disadvantages, which seriously limit their wide use. First disadvantage is the shortage of rather large free areas for laying underground heat exchangers in form of rather long pipelines. This problem arises especially in towns and large cities. Second disadvantage is the rather expensive and often not affordable construction of heating and cooling systems, sourced by heat pumps. For overcoming mentioned disadvantages and increasing energy efficiency and cost effectiveness of heating and cooling systems a new structure of heat pump and method for its calculation and design are suggested. Because the developed heat pump is able round year efficiently satisfying thermal needs for different purposes of a house it is called “universal heat pump”.","PeriodicalId":398842,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Mechanical Engineering and Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130846701","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Predicting lubrication performances of thrust bearings plays an important role in engineering applications. Taking into account the effects of non-Newtonian rheology, the lubrication performances for a sine film thrust bearing are investigated in the present paper. By employing a small perturbation technique to the nonlinear non-Newtonian Reynolds equation, analytical solutions of the film pressure, the load-carrying capacity, the friction parameter and the required volume flow rate are derived. Comparing with the case lubricated with a Newtonian lubricant, the non-Newtonian Rabinowitsch fluids (including the pseudo-plastic fluids and the dilatant fluids) show significant influences on the lubrication performances of a sine film thrust bearing, especially for a larger value of the non-Newtonian parameter.","PeriodicalId":398842,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Mechanical Engineering and Applications","volume":"200 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134188796","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In automobile industries, banks and cabins, polycarbonate bullet proof glass has been used for security purpose. Similarly, acrylic heat resistant glass is used in furnace, microwaves, space craft and airplane applications. In this experimental research paper, Taguchi modal and Grey relational analysis are utilized for the ultrasonic drilling in these materials. For experimentation, input parameters are concentration, abrasive, grit size, power rating, hydrofluoric acid and tool materials. Output parameters are material removal rate, tool wear rate and surface roughness. In which, surface roughness is most significant output parameter, because it describe accuracy of the process. Through optimization analysis, Taguchi modal suggest that 40% abrasive concentration, mixture of (Alumina, Silicon carbide and Boron carbide) abrasive in 1:1:1, 600 grit of abrasive and 1.5% hydrofluoric acid gives best results for drilling in polycarbonate bullet proof glass material. Similarly, in acrylic heat resistant glass, mixture of Silicon carbide and Boron carbide (1:1), 600 grit abrasive and 1% hydrofluoric acid gives the optimum results. Concentration of slurry, abrasive grit size and hydrofluoric acid are the most significant parameters for ultrasonic drilling in both materials. Through Grey relational analysis the surface roughness is improved by 40% and 48% in polycarbonate (UL-752) and acrylic (BS-476) glass respectively.","PeriodicalId":398842,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Mechanical Engineering and Applications","volume":"94 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124768072","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The problem is solved by the two methods: the Pontryagin maximum principle (first method) and the generalized Gauss principle (second method). Computational results are presented and the solutions are compared to each other. When the time of motion is short the both methods give practically the same results, but when the time of motion is long the results differ widely. If the time of motion is long then the second method is more preferable than the first one, since the control obtained by the second method sways the mechanical system less than the control obtained by the classical approach. This can be explained by the fact that the first method contains the control including harmonics with the natural frequency of the system, and this seeks to put the system into resonance. In contrast to this, in the second method the control is sought in the form of time polynomial that provides relatively smooth motion of the system. It is noted that the first method always finds the control with jumps at the beginning and at the end of motion. The second method also gives the same jumps when the time of motion is short, but when the time of motion is long the similar jumps vanish when one uses the generalized Gauss principle.","PeriodicalId":398842,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Mechanical Engineering and Applications","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127653368","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents a method for analyzing the reliability of gear and rack movement under the influence of time-varying wear. The example of large modulus gear rack mechanism for ship lift is verified. Through the wear state of rack and pinion, the time dependent reliability equation of kinematic pair is established with the consideration of the original dimension error, gap error and wear effect. Based on the Archard wear model, the hardness and other factors under the influence of time variation are analyzed and the new kinematic pair model is established. Finally, the Matlab software is used to simulate the wear process of the rack and pinion. The influence degree of the above factors on the motion reliability of mechanism is analyzed. The results of simulation and analysis show that the method is more accurate and suitable for engineering application. It provides an important reference for the life prediction of gear rack and the development of maintenance and maintenance outline.","PeriodicalId":398842,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Mechanical Engineering and Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130068373","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main components of the machine were the frame, hopper, neck feed control gate, shelling drum, shaft running on bearings, a pneumatic type mechanism, concave sieve and a blower. The rest are pulley and sprocket, discharge outlet and belt drive. The assembled angle iron parts were welded together whiles the sheet metal parts were riveted to hold in position. Testing of the decorticating machine was assessed at three different moisture contents of groundnut (0, 5.1 and 9.3%) and three different levels of machine shaft speed (10, 20 and 30 rpm) all at an average feed rate of 25kg/hr. The results revealed that the decorticating machine’s optimum performance was at 20 rpm machine shaft speed with groundnut moisture content of 0% (purely dry), machine cracking efficiency and percentage groundnut fully cracked was 71.2% and 85.3% respectively. There was reduction in machine performance at machine speeds of 10 rpm and 30 rpm with 45.1%, and 49.7% machine cracking efficiency respectively for the same feed gate rate openings. This was because at a speed of 10 rpm, the nuts were partially cracked (41.6%) and that of 30 rpm and cracked (39.3%), the quantum of groundnut losses through the blower increased considerably leading to a reduction in the quantity of groundnut collected.","PeriodicalId":398842,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Mechanical Engineering and Applications","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124848351","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
