For this, ultrasensitive analytical methods are required. However, due to the ultra-small volume of single cells (e.g. ~pL), analysis of analyte inside the single cell was difficult except DNA/RNA which could be amplified by chemical reactions (e.g. PCR). For this, ultimate analytical technologies are next challenges. In this presentation, we will introduce our technology for sampling cytoplasm from living single cells. Nanofluidic channels with size of 10–100 nm were utilized for the sampling, and living single cell sampling was demonstrated for the first time.","PeriodicalId":398305,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 12th International Conference on Nano/Molecular Medicine and Engineering (NANOMED)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123943855","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Here, we use a generalized nonlocal optical response method based cavity quantum electrodynamical formalism and show that the enhancement of the Rayleigh scattering intensity of the nanohybrid over that of the isolated gold nanosphere follows an exponential scaling with varying nanohybrid centre separation distance, in the close vicinity of the QD resonance frequency, which makes them ideal candidates for a multitude of distance based sensing applications.","PeriodicalId":398305,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 12th International Conference on Nano/Molecular Medicine and Engineering (NANOMED)","volume":"145 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121170728","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To address this issue, the bone plate was layer-by-layer coated by poly(lactic acid)/vancomycin (PLA/VCM) and also investigated important properties such as drug loading content and drug release. The amount of VCM on the surface after 42 layers of coating was 14, 131, and 350 μg for method A, B, and C, respectively. The coating was able to provide bacterial inhibition for 11, 15, and 15 days for method A, B and C, respectively. PLA/VCM-coated bone plates are the promising approach and will have broad applications in the orthopedic implants.","PeriodicalId":398305,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 12th International Conference on Nano/Molecular Medicine and Engineering (NANOMED)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114353701","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the advent of nanomedicine, nanoparticles have been used to target cancer cells while sparing healthy tissues. Using nanoparticles to induce hyperthermia by increasing tumor temperature is a potential first-line treatment modality with negligible side-effects. However, conventional nanoparticle sources lack precise controllability, causing the generated thermal photons to intractably penetrate the tumor boundary. This increases the temperature of adjacent healthy tissues, resulting in cytotoxic protein denaturation. Here, we investigate the suitability of a thermal superradiant pulse to enhance cancer hyperthermia. Our results indicate that the high intensity and ephemeral nature of the generated pulse using a circular quantum dot assembly can successfully alleviate this problem and enhance cancer hyperthermia.","PeriodicalId":398305,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 12th International Conference on Nano/Molecular Medicine and Engineering (NANOMED)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130890034","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A much sensitive method must be developed for providing fast and accurate detection to achieve this goal. Unlike the common modification, which focused on increasing surface area of the working surface for raising the sensitive of the sensor, surface modification with the purpose of increasing multivalent interaction between virus and sensor surface was used in this study for improving the sensor’s sensitive. Different scale of nano-hemisphere was fabricated in order to study the influence of surface structure to dengue virus binding through multivalent interaction. Japanese encephalitis virus, which has the size similar to the dengue virus, was used to investigate the binding epitope between viral E-protein and CLEC5A through the multivalent-interaction-enhanced sensor chip. We found that the glycosylation on amino acid D67 is critical to the interaction between virus and CLEC5A, however, the glycosylation on amino acid N154 will hinder the interaction between virus and CLEC5A through amino acid D67 and reduce the binding affinity between virus and CLEC5A. This study not only point out the important of multivalent interaction between analyte and sensor surface, but also the first study about determining the binding epitope between dengue virus and CLEC5A through a biosensor. The nano-hemisphere sensor surface developed in this study will be commonly used in detecting the interaction between animal virus and its receptor in the future.","PeriodicalId":398305,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 12th International Conference on Nano/Molecular Medicine and Engineering (NANOMED)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125954048","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most of these disciplines converge at the nanoscale, towards the same building blocks, principles, tools of investigation and fabrication. By the same token, micro- and nano-fabrication techniques are applicable in a wide range of non-traditional research areas and advance manufacturing, in particular, applications in the biomedical areas have been growing rapidly. In this work, a semiconductor microfabrication technique such as atomic layer deposition (ALD) has been applied to bio-medical stent devices as the preferred nano-scale coating method that demonstrated an enhanced in the device performance that is directly related to conformal and uniform atomic level coating. In this work, bio-medical stent devices are coated with sub-30 nm thickness of Aluminum Oxide using a plasma-enhanced ALD method. This work also describes the characterization of layer thickness using various techniques such as Ellipsometry, Scanning electron microscopy and Focused ion beam scanning electron microscopy and the results demonstrate the conformality and uniformity of the coating layer. The work also demonstrates the impact of the ALD coating on the successful adherence and coatings of other subsequent organic layer coatings on the stent device that ultimately improves the performance of the ALD coated stent devices in terms of its anti-clotting properties.","PeriodicalId":398305,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 12th International Conference on Nano/Molecular Medicine and Engineering (NANOMED)","volume":"90 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124638046","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The device is mainly consists of two main parts. One is a microfluidic device, which is fabricated by simple photolithographic process and PDMS casting, for efficient disruption of the cell membrane. One is a container that is manufactured by 3D printing for the storage of cell suspension. After assembly, a centrifuge used in a general laboratory is then applied, a large amount of suspended cells can be pushed through the microfluidic device to destroy the cell membrane by centrifugal force. The high-purity and chemical free mitochondria are then extracted via differential centrifugation. The membrane protein structure (complex I–V and Tom 20) of the extracted mitochondria was examined by Western blot. The purity of the extracted mitochondria via flow cytometry and TEM. Experimental results revealed that complex I–V expression of the extracted mitochondria with the proposed device was close to that of the mitochondria extracted using a conventional kit. Furthermore, the results of Tom20 expression demonstrated that our device could extract similar amounts of mitochondria to the conventional kit. The mitochondrial membrane potential proved that mitochondria retained normal activity after extraction by the proposed device. These results confirmed that the proposed microfluidic device could obtain healthy mitochondria, with no structural damage and altered activities in 30 min.","PeriodicalId":398305,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 12th International Conference on Nano/Molecular Medicine and Engineering (NANOMED)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116781914","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A distinct pattern of impedance changes was observed at different stages of cyst development. The measured impedance changes corresponded to physiological changes as the cyst developed. The change in impedance during the first stage of development provided sufficient quantitative data to predict if the cyst would hatch.
