In response to increasing reports of food insecurity among Toronto residents during the pandemic, the Food RX program was developed as a collaborative initiative between FoodShare Toronto - a local, community-based food justice organization - and the University Health Network, a large university-affiliated hospital network in downtown Toronto, ON. This commentary describes the Food RX program, highlights the lessons learned during its early implementation and offers a set of recommendations for building community partnerships moving forward.</p>","PeriodicalId":39763,"journal":{"name":"Healthcare quarterly (Toronto, Ont.)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"33481694","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Building on HQ's 25 years of excellence in sharing leading practices in health services delivery and policy, we are looking forward to taking the journal in new directions. Although both of us of have had long careers in healthcare and have experienced many cycles of change, this particular point in time feels different. This was felt acutely by citizens, patients and healthcare workers across Canada. As demand for critical medical products surged in Canada, and globally, provincial healthcare supply chain teams worked to rapidly stabilize their supply chains. These efforts indicate the emerging features of healthcare supply chain resilience. This shift from routine hospital practice and policies affected the delivery of healthcare to patients in hospitals across Canada. Data from the Canadian Institute for Health Information's Canadian Patient Experiences Inpatient Care survey suggest that despite the changes to hospital procedures during the pandemic, most admitted patients - including those with COVID-19 - had a positive experience. Hospital visitor restrictions, however, did likely impact the involvement of a patient's family and friends. Compared to previous years, fewer patients reported that their family and friends were involved in their care as much as they wanted. This type of patient feedback on care experiences can play a valuable role in highlighting areas of best practice and informing decision making to improve patient care.</p>","PeriodicalId":39763,"journal":{"name":"Healthcare quarterly (Toronto, Ont.)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"33481692","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Extending legal privilege to quality and safety reviews leads to further harm for many patients, families and healthcare providers. The intentional isolation, silencing and exclusion after the incident undermines trust, prevents learning and impedes an opportunity to heal and recover for all those directly involved.
