One of the most important aspects of this quality is related to the harmonic distortion of voltage and current waves with the well-known negative consequences on the industrial power system components and its operating efficiency. This paper analyses the effects on the quality of electrical energy of the multipulse rectifiers used to supply some electrical high-power drives as main components of the production process, involved in the driving of the rolls of the scraper from a hot strip mill. The measurement results show clearly the advantage of the presence of the 6-pulse and 12-pulse rectifiers during the fast transient conditions of slab lamination.","PeriodicalId":397346,"journal":{"name":"2019 8th International Conference on Modern Power Systems (MPS)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117069280","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This circuit can be used in real-time applications, for example, the battery management system (BMS) because is not computational complex. The model parameters are identified with experimental measurements on a real Li-Ion cell. First the discharge capacity was measured and after the cell was completely charged and discharged applying constant current pulses to determine the open circuit voltage (VOC) and the parameters for the equivalent circuit components. For one ECM the parameters are calculated using one discharge pulse which was applied at approximatively 60% state of charge and for the second model the circuit parameters are calculated for each discharge pulse and saved in a look-up-table depending on the state of charge. For model validation was applied a charge/discharge scenario and the results show a good agreement between the battery voltage and the ECM voltage.","PeriodicalId":397346,"journal":{"name":"2019 8th International Conference on Modern Power Systems (MPS)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117180670","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, the use of an energy storage system is required in order to store and optimally dispatch the energy. Supercapacitors (SC) are the well suitable technology for traction applications but are limited by the energy density. The use of “hybrid” SC and battery storage systems permits to supply the peak power and recovery energy by braking with SC; instead the integration with renewable energy can be optimized with the batteries. The paper proposes an optimal design for the reduction of cost of battery storage systems integrated with photovoltaic power plants.","PeriodicalId":397346,"journal":{"name":"2019 8th International Conference on Modern Power Systems (MPS)","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124614368","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Their modularizable and scalable nature presents opportunities for the development of a new class of players in the power system, i.e. prosumers. The large-scale integration of RES creates acute challenges to the existing power systems. In this context, a reliable and secured balance between energy generation and consumption is highly required. To overcome these problems at microgrid level, a key role is played by the peer-to-peer energy trading using the blockchain concept. In this paper, we present an efficient approach that can be useful for energy trading using blockchain from both active participants (prosumers and consumers). The proposed approach meets the new Romanian regulation regarding prosumers. The results of the study emphasize that the proposed methodology could lead to an efficient balance between local supply and demand with benefits to the participants.","PeriodicalId":397346,"journal":{"name":"2019 8th International Conference on Modern Power Systems (MPS)","volume":"39 37","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120865854","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

During this study we are going to analyze a project, where the control of the systems is carried out by pneumatic power system. A pneumatic system uses compressed air to transmit and control energy. Compressed air is produced by compressor that converts mechanical energy from motors and engines into the potential energy of compressed air. Pneumatic control systems are used in various industries especially in sectors for driving of automatic machines, control devices for the control of: level, temperature, pressure, etc. Based on the existing system we will propose a modern automatic control system, where process control will be done by electrical signal. Our analysis will be focused on the comparison of the existing model with the proposed models in some aspects to achieve a new level of: accuracy, speed of action, complexity, noise, quality of production and energy consumption. The universal nature of the approaches of proposed methodology makes it possible to use the template design of the automated control systems in other industries as well.","PeriodicalId":397346,"journal":{"name":"2019 8th International Conference on Modern Power Systems (MPS)","volume":"43 9","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133453953","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In comparison with previously used other technologies RHT exhibits a few of remarkable advantages in terms of processing speed, flexibility, implementation costs, or energy consumption. The most representative RHT-based component is the FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) processor. This paper focuses on the main idea that FPGA-based digital system implementations may provide other additional facilities like the above mentioned ones. In particular, there it is emphasized that the RHT is also well fitted for software redundancy strategies implementation. In order to evidence this facility a given control algorithm has been implemented in two different RH-based software technologies that are supported on the same FPGA-based digital system. One version is linked to the VHDL (Very high speed IC's Hardware Description Language) software framework, the second one to the embedded SDK (Software Development Kit) firmware support. The result of this implementation is a high reliability control application that embeds a versatile software redundancy solution. The implemented framework may serve as a useful support and guidance for a wide range of demanding industrial applications that require high safety and reliability during their operation.","PeriodicalId":397346,"journal":{"name":"2019 8th International Conference on Modern Power Systems (MPS)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114641703","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As opposed to conventional vehicles, EVs do not entail tailpipe emission of CO2 and other ambient air pollutants and require lower operational cost. However, the benefits that EVs can bring highly depend on their charging strategy. Moreover, the ever-increasing deployment of EVs on a global scale, and their uncontrolled charging (currently predominant) requirements, can cause significant burden for national grids and local distribution networks. The solutions EV could bring depend on the adopted charging strategies, i.e. dump charging, smart charging or V2G. This paper compares various EV charging strategies at the UK national level in perspective to 2030 and 2040 targets. This study clearly shows the benefits EVs could bring if their charging is intelligently controlled, resulting in a more positive impact on electricity distribution grids, a higher integration of renewable energy sources (RES) and lower CO2 emissions.","PeriodicalId":397346,"journal":{"name":"2019 8th International Conference on Modern Power Systems (MPS)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128391067","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
