XFEM is an approximation method and is mostly used in dealing with problems characterized by deformations, cracks, discontinuities, complex geometries and it doesn't require that the mesh must conform to the geometrical boundaries. NSGA-II is an evolutionary multi-objective optimization algorithm used on a large scale to generate solutions in different domains. The solution returned is on the form of the Pareto Front. This approach to couple XFEM method with NSGA-II optimization algorithm is of the interest from the perspective of using XFEM method which has the advantage of not being necessary to remesh the model at each step of the optimization process while the NSGA-II Algorithm is an iterative process who succeeds to generate optimal solutions for the studied objective functions. This developed system can be used in various three-dimensional (3D) optimization problems while maintaining the advantages of the XFEM method and meanwhile optimizing the model through the robust process used by the NSGA-II algorithm.","PeriodicalId":397346,"journal":{"name":"2019 8th International Conference on Modern Power Systems (MPS)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128807676","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The usual approach is to send excess energy to the main grid, with a cost of unpredictability of the reverse power flow. In order to achieve a high penetration of renewables in the distribution grid, with added contribution from prosumers, traditional grids need to be operated in states corresponding to active grids for which they have not been designed. Recently deployed solutions allow advanced prosumers to benefit from advancements in both storage and renewables technologies, changing the behavior of prosumers into controlled unidirectional power exchange (no-back generation), which translates into consumer-only behavior from the grid side. With this no-back generation paradigm, in this paper a number of comprehensive scenarios have been simulated and analyzed on a daily basis, based on real local production and consumption profiles and using key performance indexes. The paper shows the benefits of operating and customers with prosumers potential, which can bring substantial openings for a high renewables penetration agenda to address climate change related issues.","PeriodicalId":397346,"journal":{"name":"2019 8th International Conference on Modern Power Systems (MPS)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115460116","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When defective electrical equipment or improper electric loading or damaged metallic or non-metallic components occur, they are usually due to abnormal temperature models. Also the paper presents the development and manufacturing of a temperature logger that can successfully monitor the thermal stress of electrical equipment in multiple independent points. In addition, the paper shows how the thermal stress of a busbar connection are monitored by the temperature logger. By the laboratory experiment is intended to exemplify how important is to have enough number of temperature monitoring points of the electrical equipment's constructive elements.","PeriodicalId":397346,"journal":{"name":"2019 8th International Conference on Modern Power Systems (MPS)","volume":"540 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127648050","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A case study that focuses on the electric water heater flexibility potential is carried out: it is aimed to minimize the total expected electricity cost of a single household that only has an electric water heater as a flexibility source. The temperature inside the hot water tank is an unknown value since the temperature sensor is not sending any information outside. Moreover, real hot water consumption is uncertain and the model takes decisions based on forecasting models. Given the limited information available, the model is developed in a conservative way with the objective of maintaining both, the hot water temperature and the user's comfort. The results show that it is possible to reduce the electricity bill by managing optimally the available flexibility from the electric water heater.","PeriodicalId":397346,"journal":{"name":"2019 8th International Conference on Modern Power Systems (MPS)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131155906","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recently, phasor measurement units have been deployed on a wider scale and several applications based on the synchronized measurement information are developed. Based on the Romanian policy regarding Smart Grid deployment, in this paper a proposal for information exchange between existing SCADA and the newly deployed synchrophasor measurement system is presented. Both the physical and communication layers SCADA-PDC-PMUs are described. Data exchange protocol needs to fulfill both protection requirements for each system element and for the dispatching center, in order to achieve the EMS-SCADA functionalities. It is underlined the importance of achieving interoperability using as example the state estimation routinely performed by the TSO. It is described a platform for data and information exchange where new logical blocks are integrated for achieving fast protection functionalities using the synchronized information provided by PMUs. The paper concludes with practical recommendations and future work.","PeriodicalId":397346,"journal":{"name":"2019 8th International Conference on Modern Power Systems (MPS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125200135","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The new zero sequence parameters of the line calculated in this way are different that the ones implemented in the real relays. Furthermore, these new estimated line parameters are used to calculate again the fault locations from both ends of the line and the results show fairly improvements when they are compared with the results provided by the real relays.","PeriodicalId":397346,"journal":{"name":"2019 8th International Conference on Modern Power Systems (MPS)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115433760","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
