The study utilized a test to measure design thinking skills, comprising five key dimensions: empathy, problem definition, ideation, prototyping, and testing. The test consisted of 32 items, the validity and reliability of which were verified. The study sample included 65 fifth-grade science students, divided into two groups: an experimental group (32 students) who were taught using the proposed strategy, and a control group (33 students) who continued with traditional instruction. After administering a pre-test to both groups, the experiment was conducted. The experimental group received instruction following the proposed strategy, while the control group maintained the conventional approach. Upon completion of the experiment, a post-test was administered to both groups. The results revealed statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the two groups, favoring the experimental group. This confirms the effectiveness of the proposed strategy in enhancing students' design thinking skill.","PeriodicalId":39687,"journal":{"name":"JK Science","volume":"6 2","pages":"1-10"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-08-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147916747","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Drawing on Gulliver’s (2023, 2024) research and the personal reflections of George Osbourne, a disability advocate with Williams Syndrome, the article recognizes the importance of early intervention, tailored support, and educator awareness in supporting children with rare disabilities. Through an awareness-raising exhibition and personal narratives, the article illustrates how inclusion can be meaningfully achieved when schools adapt to the needs of the child - rather than requiring the child to adapt to the school. George’s story demonstrates how empathetic, informed practice can help contribute to a sense of belonging and empower individuals to thrive. The article concludes by arguing for increased recognition of the voices of people with disabilities as vital contributors to shaping inclusive educational and social environments.","PeriodicalId":39687,"journal":{"name":"JK Science","volume":"3 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://pearl.plymouth.ac.uk/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1036&context=pieoj","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147915823","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to identify the competing microbiota of Campylobacter on modified charcoal cefoperazone agar, to help in the future development of protocol for isolating Campylobacter spp. Raw milk from backyard-raised carabaos were analyzed for the presence of Campylobacter spp. and the non-Campylobacter spp. that grew on the selective medium were identified using 16S rRNA and gene sequencing. Ten (10) bacterial strains were detected including, Acinetobacter spp., Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas spp. and Klebsiella pneumonia. Thirty (30) of the 53 sequenced isolates were identified as Acinetobacter spp. and eleven (11) were E. coli. Further analysis of confirmed Acinetobacter spp. isolates with PCR and blaOXA51-like gene primer revealed that majority (18 of 20 isolates) were A. baumanii. This study showed the composition of the competing microflora of Campylobacter on mCCDA, a data that can be used to determine the appropriate conditions and supplements to be added to the media to successfully isolate Campylobacter jejuni and C. coli in the raw milk of carabaos. Since then, digital streaming platforms have become important spaces for the articulation of queer identities. This paper examines how queer representation in Indian web series has evolved in the post-Section 377 era. Using qualitative textual and discourse analysis, the study investigates five web series—Made in Heaven, His Storyy, Romil & Jugal, and Four More Shots Please! The analysis explores how these series portray queer characters, the role of intersectionality, and the implications of digital media as a site for both visibility and commodification. The findings reveal a complex landscape: while these platforms increase queer visibility and diversity, they also present tensions between authenticity and market-driven narratives. This research contributes to broader discussions about queer media, representation, and digital cultures in contemporary India.","PeriodicalId":39687,"journal":{"name":"JK Science","volume":"2 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://shodhshreejan.com/shodhshreejan/article/download/20/25","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147899907","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With robust policy support, China aims to shift the focus of healthcare from disease treatment to prevention. Health education is a key strategy in this shift. However, this approach faces numerous challenges, including the application of fundamental health education theories across diverse health issues, healthcare systems, cultural contexts, and varying resource availability. This paper aims to summarize and present several theories related to health education, and then to discuss their application and related suggestions in China. Firstly, behavior change stages, social cognitive theory, the health belief model, theories related to promoting and supporting behaviors, locus of control, self-determination, the ecological model, and expectancy-value theory are briefly interpreted. Secondly, research needs and challenges regarding health education in China are discussed. Finally, using dengue fever control as an example, the RE-AIM model – standing for Reach, Effectiveness, Adoption, Implementation, and Maintenance – and the formative research framework are employed to illustrate the methodology for developing a tailored health education intervention program.","PeriodicalId":39687,"journal":{"name":"JK Science","volume":"2 1","pages":"73-91"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.degruyterbrill.com/document/doi/10.1515/gme-2024-0027/pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147894225","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This review highlights the primary sources of water pollution, including industrial discharge, agricultural runoff, untreated sewage, and heavy metal infiltration. The accumulation of these contaminants in marine environments disrupts aquatic biodiversity, compromises ecosystem functions, and introduces toxins into the food web. Marine species suffer physiological and reproductive harm from exposure to heavy metals, microplastics, and persistent organic pollutants. These toxic substances bioaccumulate and biomagnify through trophic levels, posing serious health risks to humans via seafood consumption and water use. In humans, contaminated water is associated with acute and chronic illnesses, including gastrointestinal infections, neurological disorders, and cancer. Moreover, antibiotic-resistant bacteria in polluted waters further complicate public health efforts. This review also explores current mitigation strategies such as advanced wastewater treatment technologies, bioremediation, and policy frameworks aimed at pollution control. Despite these efforts, enforcement and infrastructure remain inadequate in many regions. Integrated and multidisciplinary approaches are essential to address the complex and interconnected nature of aquatic pollution. Public awareness, policy reform, and sustainable practices are critical to safeguarding marine ecosystems and ensuring access to clean water. Continued research and international collaboration are vital to developing innovative solutions that can reduce waterborne pollutants and mitigate their far-reaching consequences. The review underscores the urgency for immediate action to protect both marine life and human populations from the escalating threat of water contamination.","PeriodicalId":39687,"journal":{"name":"JK Science","volume":"2 05","pages":"64-85"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://kjmr.com.pk/kjmr/article/download/448/525","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147899000","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite a global dialogue, increasing awareness and cogent action by all stakeholders, gender disparity exists across the spectrum. This is true for leadership positions as well, including in academia. The situation is exacerbated in large developing countries such as India. While women comprise a significant percentage of faculty positions in Indian Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), their representation as Vice Chancellors, Directors, Deans remains low. The percentage is even smaller when it comes to STEM courses. To address this imbalance, factors which act as barriers and enablers to the elevation of women to leadership positions in STEM courses in Indian academia need to be examined from multiple perspectives, including those from the women themselves. The present study analyses data from 138 women academic leaders from 73 HEIs in India, using a mixed methods approach. The results indicate that Institutional Culture, Mentoring and Institutional Support, Recognition and Equal Opportunities emerged as the enabling factors whereas Self-Perception, Societal Beliefs and Work-Family Conflict were the major barriers which hinder progression to senior academic leadership positions. The study adds to the body of the existing literature on women in academic leadership in STEM courses and provides valuable recommendations for institutions of higher education for creating an enabling environment facilitating women in getting elevated to senior leadership positions in academia and succeeding in these roles.","PeriodicalId":39687,"journal":{"name":"JK Science","volume":"38 IS2","pages":"437-444"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://journaleet.in/index.php/jeet/article/download/2107/2051/2084","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147921231","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
