Phase scrambling is used to spread the data of each pixel of a video sequence over all pixels of the scrambled video. In our experiments we studied the effects of different loss patterns. The results obtained by employing this method shows great improvements compared to cases of data loss without exploiting phase scrambling. This technique can be readily used in transmission of video segments over unreliable networks.","PeriodicalId":395921,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"104 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-08-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132451996","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A 2-tapped complex FIR filter is used for filtering a chip code to suppress NBI. In this system, the spectrum of transmitted signal has a null at an arbitrary frequency. By choosing filter coefficients, the authors place this null at NBI center frequency to mitigate the effect of NBI. In this paper, an OFDM signal is considered as NBI. The performance of this scheme is theoretically analyzed by introducing Queueing model, and validated via simulation.","PeriodicalId":395921,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115385981","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This problem can be solved by concatenating two LDGM codes serially. However, little is known about the construction of the concatenated LDGM codes - component LDGM codes, the combination of inner and outer coding rates, inner and outer code weights. In this paper, we investigate the parity check matrix of component LDGM codes that suited to concatenated LDGM codes. We also investigate appropriate combination of inner and outer coding rates and inner and outer code weights, and so on. In addition, we investigate how to set the maximum number of inner and outer iterations for concatenated LDGM codes. Our results are useful for the construction of concatenated LDGM codes.","PeriodicalId":395921,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"103 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-09-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115692399","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A necessity of the PTS scheme is to transmit the side information about the phase rotation factors for correct OFDM symbol recovery. In this paper, a new side information embedded PTS scheme using the reference symbols is proposed for the PAPR reduction and the BER performance is analyzed when the erroneous side information is received. In this proposed method, the information about the rotation factors is expressed by the phase of reference symbols. The proposed method maintains the same PAPR reduction performance as the conventional PTS scheme and OFDM symbols are correctly recovered by the side information to meet the required BER level. Also, the proposed method can be easily realized for all kinds of digital modulation formats in the OFDM communication system.","PeriodicalId":395921,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"181 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-09-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120944849","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The typical conventional approaches in improving communication performance are to use a dedicated cluster network and/or off loading protocols to network devices. However, in these approaches, the host processor still consumes much computing resources to process communication procedures. To improve efficiency in parallel processing, host processors has to be able to concentrate on primary computation by introducing more aggressive and flexible off loading mechanism. We are currently developing a new cluster network, called Maestro3, which has a capability of off loading user-defined software modules. Both a network interface and a switch of Masetro3 include a general purpose processor, which is tightly coupled with network hardware, and a high-capacity memory. This paper presents an architecture and preliminary evaluation of Maestro3 cluster network.","PeriodicalId":395921,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-09-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125290855","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Through the study, block-type error diffusion is introduced to consider the two-dimensional entropy, and both of entropy-based prioritisation method and prediction-error-based prioritisation method in inverse halftoning procedure are proposed and compared. The result shows that the restored image by proposed methods has about 40% less entropy than that of the original multi-level image, but 50-70% larger than that of halftone image. However through the simulation of pseudo high resolution images, it was expected that the proposed method could even show less entropy than that of the bi-level image in higher resolution cases.","PeriodicalId":395921,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-09-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115256777","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As the result, visualization technologies are becoming increasingly important to analyze the scientific data. Among visualization technologies, SAGE is gathering attention of scientists in these days. It not only enables the visualization of tens of million pixel-class high-resolution image but also has the potential to realize the collaboration environment where scientists can work together for their common research purpose. However, there remain still technical issues in SAGE, since it is still in the process of development. A problem of application operability, which prevents SAGE users from efficiently operating various applications on SAGE, is targeted in this paper. This problem is caused from the architectural design that SAGE users have to manage window-related operation and application-related operation from different interfaces. For solving the problem, we have developed a built-in application control module for SAGE. Our built-in application control module unifies the separate interfaces for window management and application operation. As a result, users can control application from a unified user interface, SAGE UI.","PeriodicalId":395921,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-09-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121838084","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, a TCP flow in such high-speed environments might cause extremely bursty traffic that could create a bottleneck anywhere in the end-to-end path, i.e., sender/receiver hosts could be bottlenecks. Therefore, we have been developing TCPVisible, an easy-to-use tool for monitoring TCP/UDP-related internal dynamics at sender and receiver hosts in detail, which allows us to know when and where packet losses have occurred internally in the kernel. We introduce preliminary experiments in this paper investigating the performance of two kinds of high-speed transport protocols (HTCP and BIC) in 10-Gbps paths between the US and Japan, where the usefulness of TCPVisible could be demonstrated.","PeriodicalId":395921,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-09-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116851569","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
