Leiden, UB, BPL 48E, originating from the 'Groot Begijnhof' in Mechelen. As the manuscript states that these sermons were delivered by Anthonis vander Voerde - priest of the same beguinage from 1524 to 1551 - the fact that the author was Frans Vervoort remained in the dark. There is reason to believe that all the other texts in this manuscript were also adapted, written or compiled by Frans Vervoort. Two more manuscripts testify to the intense preaching activity at the Groot Begijnhof in Mechelen. They project an image of a lively and powerful ascetic, religious culture in the spirit of the Counter Reformation.","PeriodicalId":39580,"journal":{"name":"Ons Geestelijk Erf","volume":"71 1","pages":"250-273"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68165565","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two blockbooks on the same subject were designed to illustrate these texts. Recently a Middle Dutch text, the Gheestelike leere, dealing for the most part with the Paternoster, has been attributed to Pomerius. The suggestion has been made that Pomerius should also be the author of the Ridderboec, a Middle Dutch catechetical treaty that also deals in great length with the Paternoster. This article argues that these Middle Dutch texts are anonymous and derive in different ways from Pomerius' commentaries and the blockbooks, instead of preceding them.
