The Enhanced Telecommunication Services Architecture (or ETSA) is an architecture aimed at supporting any type of IN (Intelligent Network) or suplementary services on top of any transport network. This work is founded on ISDN (for the user to network interface plus the control of call and suplemenlxy services), IN (for the service composition mechanisms, call control and service feature definitions), GSM (for the mobility) and TINA (for the architectural framework). The ETSA provides a realistic approach to solve the problem of interoperability of services accross different network and service providers. Morover, it aims to give a solution for DN, based on object modeling and distributed computing. The work on ETSA started in the TINA-C Core-Team. Presently, this work is supported by Telefbnica in a VITNACTS project. The plans include an intial prototype by the end of 1.997, ancl a second version by 1.998.","PeriodicalId":395317,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Intelligent Network Workshop in '97. Proceedings. This approach is also interesting for the provisioning of multimedia services in the Broadband ISDN (B-ISDN) environment. For such an IN/B-ISDN integration, new IN features need to be investigated to handle more complex service scenarios. This contribution reports on results from the European research project INSIGNIA (IN and B-ISDN Signalling Integration on ATM Platforms) which develops a prototype implementation for a Broadband Intelligent Network. INSIGNIA is supported by the European Union as part of the ACTS programme. The project consortium comprises research institutions and several manufacturers of telecommunication equipment as well as several major European network operators. In this contribution, an overview is given on the general concepts used in INSIGNIA, in particular on a functional architecture adequate for multimedia services. An overview of the actual implementation of a Broadband SSP is given, discussing the usage of object-orientation and the possible amount of design and code reuse. This overview shows that the new functionality can be easily realised by reusing design and implementation of existing switching software.","PeriodicalId":395317,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Intelligent Network Workshop in '97. The EURESCOM project P509, \"Handling service interactions in the Service Life Cycle\", has investigated the service interaction problem from an enterprise perspective. This paper presents the most important results of the project, i.e. a new enterprise model of telecom industry and the concept of a Service Interaction Handling Process. The enterprise model reflects the roles existing in the domain of service creation and provisioning today. It also introduces two additional (future) roles related to service integration in general and service interaction handling in particular. The service integrator is one of such new roles. It is responsible for integration of services created by different service creators on behalf of one service provider. The Service Interaction Handling Process (SIHP) is a new business process located within the Service Integrator role. The concept of SIHP separates interaction detection and solving from the service creation process, which is a novel approach proposed by the EURESCOM Project P509.","PeriodicalId":395317,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Intelligent Network Workshop in '97. This project dealt with the support of multimedia services in an integrated IN/B-ISDN architecture. The paper focuses on a two level Basic Call State Model (BCSM) and an enhanced IN Switching State Model (IN-SSM) which are suitable to make visible to IN the separation between call and connection control introduced by B-ISDN signalling. The first level of the BCSM (Edge Control Manager) models the setup and monitoring of the edge-to-edge relationships, while the second (Link Control Manager) represents the connection status. The Call Segment concept developed by IN CSI and CS2 needs also to be enhanced when looking towards an IN/B-ISDN integrated architecture. To this extent Edge Segments and Link Segments, which are part of the proposed IN-SSM, have been defined, together with their states and transitions among them.","PeriodicalId":395317,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Intelligent Network Workshop in '97. In the area of IN, interworking with TINA networks will be needed, for example, for communication between service logics. For the definition of interworking scenarios the SCF-SCF INAP interface and the ISUP interface were used on the IN side. For the TINA side suitable TINA interfaces had to be identified. Based on these interfaces Interworking Units were defined. They simulate that the corresponding system is of the same technology as the originating one. This is important for the fact that interworking with a system of another technology should not imply modifications of existing systems. Two interworking scenarios will be presented, accompanied by example services. Finally the applicability of existing products for the implementation of interworking units is examined. The paper is based on the work done in Eurescom project P-508 \"Evolution migration paths and interworking to TINA\".","PeriodicalId":395317,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Intelligent Network Workshop in '97.
