The qualitative case study approach was used as a research design. Five school teachers were interviewed for the study. The data were collected through the use of semi-structured interviews. The findings of this study further support the existing literature and the previous research. The study revealed that teachers had positive perception about visual aids. They perceived visual aids as one of the crucial and significant tools for teaching and learning.  Evidences from this study suggest that teaching becomes more effective and easier for teachers through the use of visual aids. The study revealed some of the problems faced by the teachers in using modern visual aids. The participants in the study clearly pointed out erratic and unreliable internet connection as a barrier to the use of ICT in teaching –learning process. The study also found out heavy workload of teachers as one of the impending factors in the preparation of visual aids in their lesson.","PeriodicalId":394178,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Education, Society and Behavioural Science","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123568581","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design was employed. One hundred and seven (107) students from two government-sponsored schools chosen using a purposive sampling technique in the city of Kolkata, West Bengal, India, were sampled. For the experiment, 55 learners in the experimental group and 52 in the control group were selected. Only the experimental group of learners received treatment via metacognitive scaffolding. To obtain data, the researcher administered a self-developed and standardised criteria test (with a reliability coefficient of 0.86 and a validity of 0.93) and a reaction scale. For data analysis, one-way ANCOVA, percentiles, means, standard deviations, and coefficients of variation were applied. Results of the study demonstrated that the students who received treatment acquired better learning outcomes than the others. Furthermore, treatment recipients responded favourably to the use of metacognitive scaffolding when learning physical science.","PeriodicalId":394178,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Education, Society and Behavioural Science","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115458171","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study evaluates the perceptions and attitudes of both students and teachers in relation to mobile apps that assist in classroom learning. The research used a mixed-methods approach that collected demographic information and conducted qualitative interviews to determine the perceptions of mobile apps to students and teachers. Cross-sectional data was collected from participants and analyzed for associations. 43 students and 6 teachers were recruited and interviewed. The participants were asked about their thoughts on mobile educational apps, and their interviews were audio recorded and transcribed. Inductive thematic analysis was used to analyze the data and 5 themes were identified for students: barriers to educational app adoption, barriers to continued use of education apps, tracking progress, tracking of progress, and goal setting. For teachers, themes identified included factors to mobile app use, and criteria used for mobile app selection. These findings may provide school boards and scientists with insights on how to best develop educational apps to fit the needs of students.","PeriodicalId":394178,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Education, Society and Behavioural Science","volume":"188 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126793195","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three research questions were raised to guide the study and three corresponding hypotheses were formulated, which were all tested at 0.05 level of significance. The pre-test, post-test, control group, and experimental design were adopted for the study. The population of the study is three thousand, five hundred and sixty-one (3,561) students, which comprised all Senior Secondary Class Two (SS2) students from the twenty public secondary schools in Ika North East Local Government Area. A sample size of forty-six (46) students, made up of twenty (20) males and twenty-six (26) females reporting somatic symptom disorder were selected from two schools using the multi-stage random sampling technique. The research instrument titled “Adolescents Somatic Symptom Scale” (ASSS) was adapted and modified for use by the researcher. Three test experts of measurement and evaluation revalidated this instrument. The reliability of the instrument was determined using Cronbach Alpha reliability method to test the consistency of the test items and a reliability coefficient of 0.70 was obtained. The instrument was administered to the students as a pre-test and forty-six (46) students who evidenced somatic disorder in the two schools were randomly assigned for treatment to experimental group A (Cognitive Analytic Therapy), and B (Control Group). The data collected were analyzed, using descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation and inferential statistics of paired and independent sample t-test. The findings of the study revealed that, there is a significant difference in the pre-test and post-test of somatic symptoms disorder mean scores of in-school adolescents exposed to CAT and also, there is no significant interaction effect on treatment by sex. Based on the findings, the study recommends among others, that counselling psychologists should embrace Cognitive Analytic Therapy as an effective counselling therapy for adolescents irrespective of gender.","PeriodicalId":394178,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Education, Society and Behavioural Science","volume":"109 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124573798","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To constantly evaluate institutional activities and ascertain feedback from stakeholders for decision-making, these offices make use of questionnaires and interviews to collect data. Most colleges now turn to use web-based QA surveys instead of the usual manual or paper-based survey administering mode due to the increasing number of enrolments. This evidence-based process relies on the regular gathering of accurate enough data. Response rates may however be affected by the survey mode used and this affects the decision made based on this data. This study examined the perception of the participant towards the survey modes, and identified their perceived preference and the factors that underpin this preference for the survey mode. A questionnaire was used to achieve the study’s objectives with the targeted population comprising of tutors and students in the Ghanaian public colleges of education. The study evidenced the preferred QA survey mode as electronic-based surveys and factors that determines participants preferred QA survey mode as anonymity of the response and easiness or quickness of the surveys to respond to.","PeriodicalId":394178,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Education, Society and Behavioural Science","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122861565","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The menace of cultism has eroded the conducive healthy social learning environment existing hitherto in Delta State University campuses. Two research questions and two corresponding null hypotheses tested at 0.05 level of significance guided the study. The study was a survey and it adopted an ex-post facto correlational design. The population comprised of 5,272 students from the three campuses of the university (Abraka, Oleh, and Asaba). The sample size of 600, comprising of 240 males and 360 females were selected from the students for the study, using the multistage random sampling technique. The research instrument used for data collection was a validated self-constructed instrument titled “Parenting, Mass Media and Cultism Scale” (PMCS). The reliability indices for the sub instruments were parenting r = 0.65, mass media r = 0.55, and cultism 0.53 but had an overall reliability coefficient of 0.79. The Pearson Product Moment Correlation statistical tool was used to analyze the data. The findings of the study revealed that parenting had no significant relationship with cultism while Mass Media had the greatest influence (4.1%) in determining students’ involvement in cultism at Delta State University. Based on the findings, the study recommends among others, that government should create an agency that will censor the type of films and images produced by the members of Nigeria Movie Producers Association (NMPA) before selling them to the public and an awareness campaign against the negative impact of cultism in the media should be organized by corporate bodies, government, parents, counsellors and other individuals.","PeriodicalId":394178,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Education, Society and Behavioural Science","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121962313","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
