However, the characterization of a crack is not easy to obtain, and for this purpose, other eddy current evaluation methods are still under investigation. In this paper, a non-conventional excitation method with white noise was tested to detect surface and sub-surface cracks in aluminum plates and the performance of the method was compared with the multi-frequency excitation method. The generation of the excitation signals, the experimental setup, and the scanning tests were explained in detail.","PeriodicalId":393766,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC)","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132242501","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a non-invasive method that is based on attaching a transducer element to a collar and wrapping it around the individual's neck. The Short Term Fourier Transform (STFT) technique is applied on the collected signal to decompose it into its frequency contents. The features defined in terms of a range of frequencies are extracted for speaker identification purposes. The position of the transducer on the human's neck could affect the quality of the collected signal and consequently, the extracted features. Therefore, the study of the effect of the transducer's location is in accordance. In this context, the mediums through which the vocal cords' vibrations are propagated until their detection by the transducer are modeled. Subsequently, numerical simulation experiments are performed to determine the best location on the human's neck for transmission purposes.","PeriodicalId":393766,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123377531","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Elderly's ability to perform daily activities presents the elderly's wellness. Investigation of human activities for extracting health and well-being statistics is one of the present challenges given the Smart Aging. The existing research works are mostly focusing on offline monitoring and do not give significance to real-time monitoring and forecasting. This paper aims to apply lifestyle monitoring and forecasting in real time in ambient assisted living (AAL) system with diagnosing the conduct and distinguishing the variation from the norm with the slightest conceivable fake alert. Anomaly forecasting model based on inactivity and activity of period of the different ADL is formulated. The present study demonstrates the novel approach for forecasting of wellness anomaly related to the activity of daily living (ADL). The significant correlation between lifestyle and health status is established. Through the present research forecasting of lifestyle would facilitate remote physician/caregiver to insight symptom of the disease and provide health improvement advises to the resident. Moreover, if it is a life-threatening degradation in wellness index than appropriate service provider would be informed directly.","PeriodicalId":393766,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123665550","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, most important tests related to noise and effective resolution, nonlinearity, environmental uncertainty, and stability are proved and validated in the specific case of a high-performance ΔΣ ADC. In particular, tests setups are proposed and discussed and the definitions used to assess the performance are clearly stated in order to identify procedures and guidelines for high-resolution ADCs characterization. An experimental case study of the high-performance ΔΣ ADC DS-22 developed at CERN is reported and discussed by presenting effective alternative test setups. Experimental results show that common characterization methods by the IEEE standards 1241 [1] and 1057 [2] cannot be used and alternative strategies turn out to be effective.","PeriodicalId":393766,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC)","volume":"82 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126474936","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recently, electrically conductive (carbon-based) polymer composites have been considered as a viable alternative to traditional electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials due to their light weight, corrosion resistance and ease and flexibility of processing (i.e., three-dimensional/3D printing techniques). As such, in order to be able to take advantage of these benefits, the dielectric properties of these materials at microwave frequencies must be known. To this end, this work considers a set of 3D printed (3-layer) samples consisting of 2 solid outer layers, and an internal mesh layer (with triangular and honeycomb mesh features) with varying polymer volume content. Dielectric measurements were made in the X-band (8.2–12.4 GHz) for the samples with and without the cover layers. The results show that conductive polymers used for 3D printed structures have high potential as another option for EMI shielding structures.","PeriodicalId":393766,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129624008","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It first came up with the cryptocurrency Bitcoin, where it is used to maintain a distributed ledger, a public list of all transactions. It is assumed that the use of a blockchain as a cryptocurrency, or in general for financial services, was just the first stage, called Phase 1.0. The second phase began with the integration of smart contracts. In Phase 3.0, the focus lies on decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs), which efficiently implement smart contracts. In the future, it is assumed, that by the use of DAOs many benefits for the public sector emerge. In this paper, blockchain applications of Phase 2.0 and 3.0 are analyzed for measuring instruments under legal control. An example are smart meters, where by smart contracts, a new coin/token within the blockchain can be created whenever the electric meter rotates. Promising areas of application in legal metrology, like a decentralized audit trail to log, e.g., software updates and hinder uncertified manipulations, the complete automation of the legally supervised update mechanism by smart contracts, or an alternative to public key infrastructures are being proposed in this paper.","PeriodicalId":393766,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116149956","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As different tissues have different acoustic characteristics, ultrasound reflects and scatters at the interfaces. A clinical ultrasound device can position and image by extracting Time-of-Flights (TOFs). So presenting TOFs easily extracted is quite necessary. A high quality excitation signal makes the extraction of TOFs easy and accurate. The reflection case and transmission case were compared. Decrement signal and gauss signal were compared also in this paper and research target is a two-dimensional cross-section of human body model. The degree of difficulty of TOFs extraction and decay rates evaluate the signal quality. The ideal TOFs were calculated as a standard and the relative errors of the two signals were compared. Reflection case can indicate interface directly. Results demonstrate complex waveform affects the accuracy of TOFs extraction in decrement pattern.","PeriodicalId":393766,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126875553","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Conversely to the other methods for magnet axis determination, the proposed method is suitable also when the magnet has been deployed and the surrounding equipment has been installed, often making the axis region and almost the whole remaining magnet aperture not accessible. Requiring only a few measurements of the magnetic field at fixed positions inside the magnet aperture, it overcomes the main drawback of the other Hall sensor-based methods which is having to deal with sturdy mechanics of the moving stages. In this paper the analytical description of the method is presented, and the sensitivity concerning the measurement is studied. Then, the validation of the measurement method, based on analytical simulations of the magnetic field inside an ideal solenoid magnetic aperture, is presented.","PeriodicalId":393766,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC)","volume":"112 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127176834","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a novel method based on on-site measurement coupled to computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations is proposed to reproduce the spatial variability of wind speed distribution over the region with complex terrain. The on-site measurement data of wind speeds are adopted in the data fusion for wind speed distribution estimation and reproduction, combined with the simulation results of CFD. Next, a case study on wind resource assessment for a wind farm in complex terrain, located in Hebei Province, China was done. One year wind measurements with anemometers on three different sites were performed adopting the proposed approach. A cross-validation of the results of the proposed method against on-site wind speed measurement data indicates a good agreement. The results show that the approach proposed have reproduced a wind resource map with high resolution and the wind speed estimations for one spot within the wind farm are with a root-mean-square error of 0.399 m/s, which is qualified for wind farm planning in complex terrain.","PeriodicalId":393766,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127891756","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
