More specifically, within the context of their afterlife, it argues that the Sonnets provided the American poet with an authoritative and, at the same time, controversial resource for her construction of love. It examines Dickinson's use of a vocabulary of aristocratic and economic tropes, love triangles, imagery of light and darkness, physical beauty and erotic multiplicity, which she would have identified as Shakespearean. His unconventional sonnets, it will be suggested, offered Dickinson a means of validating the traditionally feminine position of powerlessness within the discourse of love, of representing female desire for a male figure, and of constructing poems that connote same-sex love. Like the Sonnets, Dickinson's love poems are queer: They unsettle repressive categories of gender and sexuality and make possible the signification of same-sex passion. This paper continues current discussion of the queer afterlives of both writers as an antidote to the intrusive and spurious biographical readings of their brief, repetitious, and figurative lyrics.","PeriodicalId":39366,"journal":{"name":"Innovation Journal","volume":"3 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://borrowers-ojs-azsu.tdl.org/borrowers/article/download/69/137/253","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147899775","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

But the actresses who performed alongside him were also hugely influential in pioneering a new conception of Shakespeare on the stage. Performers such as Catherine Clive and Hannah Pritchard were celebrated for their acting talent in works such as Charles Churchill's The Rosciad (1761) and Thomas Davies's Dramatic Miscellanies (1784). This paper will trace the history of women's performance of Shakespeare in the eighteenth century and will focus on the accounts of Clive's and Pritchard's acting. I suggest that performing Shakespeare helped actresses to be taken seriously as artists for the first time, allowing them to be admired and respected for their skill in their profession rather than to be treated primarily as \"ornaments to the stage,\" as they were in the Restoration.","PeriodicalId":39366,"journal":{"name":"Innovation Journal","volume":"2 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://borrowers-ojs-azsu.tdl.org/borrowers/article/download/50/99/177","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147921846","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

More varied interpretation was provided by representations in other media: paintings as well as prints designed to illustrate editions of Shakespeare's plays. The variety of available artistic modes — conversation piece, portrait, history painting — provided a range of different ways, from the sentimental and domestic to the sublime, of comprehending Cordelia, juxtaposing a passive and grief-stricken feminine piety with an energized, though emotional, feminine agency. These competing versions of Shakespeare's heroine — interacting, influencing, commenting on each other — discover a complex fidelity that the stage version could not.","PeriodicalId":39366,"journal":{"name":"Innovation Journal","volume":"6 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://borrowers-ojs-azsu.tdl.org/borrowers/article/download/204/406/833","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147892220","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research problems of this research are how the use of the Direct Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) technique may increase reading comprehension for eleventh grade students and what are the obstacles of the students in using the Direct Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) technique in reading comprehension. The purposes of this research are to find out whether the Direct Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) technique may increase reading comprehension for eleventh grade students and to know the obstacles the students face in using the Direct Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) technique in reading comprehension. The subject of this research was the students of the second grade of SMAN 1 Kuta Baro in the academic year 2017-2018, which consisted of 18 students. The research was started on October 10th, 2017 and continued until October 24th, 2017. This is quantitative research with two research instruments, namely a test (pre- and post-test) and a questionnaire. Finally, the researcher concludes by suggesting that English teachers can use the DRTA technique as a good alternative method for teaching reading. However, it aids students' reading ability and comprehension by making texts easier to understand, making students more interactive, and encouraging students to engage in more active and critical thinking.","PeriodicalId":39366,"journal":{"name":"Innovation Journal","volume":"4 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://journal.institutre.org/index.php/jsid/article/download/28/347","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147897777","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, those discussions are largely based on the printed version of the text, bolstered by reviews found in contemporary newspapers, leading to many conclusions about the content, performance contexts, and adaptive qualities of MacNally’s work. Consulting the manuscript version of this short play provides us with a much clearer view of the Tristram Shandy that was actually performed on stage compared with the printed version consumed by readers. Comparing these two versions reveals the play’s excised scenes and its numerous internal changes — hitherto only glimpsed through newspaper reviews. This comparison substantiates conclusions about the nature of MacNally’s investment in Sterne, supported by some comment on his Sentimental Excursions to Windsor and Other Places (1781). It also informs our knowledge of the multi-authored, collaborative theatrical culture of his day; the stage as arena for political satire; the differences between performance and reading play-texts; and the audience’s appetite for different forms of comedy.","PeriodicalId":39366,"journal":{"name":"Innovation Journal","volume":"33 1","pages":"173-197"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147909511","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although many look to open their doors to broader audiences, to reap the presumed benefits of the digital sphere, and to expand their collections to embrace a plurality of perspectives, far less attention has been paid to how institutions include and represent artists. This article highlights how the drive for accessibility, an espousal of the promise of new technologies, and the need to preserve artworks might motivate curatorial choices that strip them of their material and contex- tual idiosyncrasies. It focuses on a scroll created by the artist Dumile Feni, and its exhibition and digitization for Activate/Captivate (2016) at Wits Art Museum in Johannesburg.","PeriodicalId":39366,"journal":{"name":"Innovation Journal","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://thefebruaryjournal.org/index.php/tgj/article/download/14/140","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147912067","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The information required for effective policy and decision making in these complex domains is massive in scale, fine-grained in resolution, and distributed over many data sources. Thus, one of the key challenges in building systems to support policy informatics is information integration. We describe our approach to this problem, and how we are building a multi-theory, multi-actor, multi-perspective system that supports continual data uptake, state assessment, decision analysis, and action assignment based on large-scale high-performance computing infrastructures. Our simulation-based approach allows rapid course-of-action analysis to bound variances in outcomes of policy interventions, which in turn allows the short time-scale planning required in response to emergencies such as epidemic outbreaks. We present the rationale and design of our methodology and discuss several areas of actual and potential application.</p>","PeriodicalId":39366,"journal":{"name":"Innovation Journal","volume":"16 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3278309/pdf/nihms339979.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"30462374","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
