However, almost all the work about the Tahtacis was done by sociologists, folklorists, historians of religions and amateur researchers, except for a couple of studies, historians have remained quite distant to this subject. Therefore, many issues regarding Tahtaci's history have not been clarified since many archive documents, especially tahrir registers (Ottoman tax registers) that could illuminate history of Tahtaci, were not used. Despite the fact that the orientalists, who made the first studies about the Tahtacis, described them as the remains of the ancient Anatolian tribes and seemingly Islamization of Christians, domestic researchers such as Baha Said, Yusuf Ziya Yorukan and Faruk Sumer have embarked on search to their origins in Turkish history. Sumer's theory that the Tahtacis were descendants of the Agaceris was accepted by both an essential part of the researchers and some of the Tahtacis, although there was no perceptible information which could be linked between the two groups. In the first part of the study, based on the data obtained about the woodworkers' groups mentioned in tahrir registers and other archive material, it will be emphasized and discussed whether the Tahtacis are the continuation of the Agaceris. Also, the emergence and settlement of the name Tahtaci will be evaluated within the framework of the relationship developed by the nomads with the Seljuks, Anatolian Principalities and the Ottomans. In the second part, the Tahtaci communities determined during the field research will be emphasized, their connections with each other and the areas where they are dispersed will be discussed. In this study, the Iranian claims of some of those who want to get rid of military service will be discussed on the basis of the documents.\u0000Keywords: Alawism, Tahtacis, Agaceris, Iran, Battal Kāhya","PeriodicalId":39168,"journal":{"name":"Turk Kulturu ve Haci Bektas Veli - Arastirma Dergisi","volume":"27 1","pages":"143-167"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73986409","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this reason, Alawism has started to spread among the Turks living in rural areas or living innomads. Written transfer was not very common in these communities because of their way of life. Accordingly, Alawism culture and teachings have been taught and passed on to the next generationsby means of oral transmission. Although this situation creates the impression that some cultural elements belonging to Alawism have disappeared, it is understood that these transfer elements have been preserved to a great extent due to their strength and public acceptance. Gulbank is the strongestof these cultural transfer elements with different forms such as poetry and saying. Gulbank, which is a kind of prayer in Alawi and Bektashi oral culture, also contains strong moral advice. Gulbank often refers to the value patterns that are considered important in the Turkish culture and Islamic tradition.In this study, value patterns on basic topics such as “belief, people, education and science, the place of women in society, friendship, love, affection, modesty, bravery, truthfulness” which are included in the Alawi and Bektashi gulbanks, are discussed. In addition, the concepts of ‘value’ in other oral cultural elements were also investigated. Accordingly, theoretical works and interviews with opinion leaders were examined. The pattern of the study was created in accordance with qualitative research methods. The findings were constructed using a critical point of view and interpretation technique.The main argument of this study is that the concepts of ‘value’, which take a strong place in the Alawi and Bektashi oral culture, are compatible with universal and Islamic values, and at the same time,these values play a vital function in the formation of Turkish culture. Even this claim alone makes the subject important and worthy of investigation.","PeriodicalId":39168,"journal":{"name":"Turk Kulturu ve Haci Bektas Veli - Arastirma Dergisi","volume":"28 1","pages":"11-35"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84772967","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this context, the mausoleum, known as Seydisul, is among the places to go to ask for children, to eliminate infertility, to help grumpy kids behave, to overcomefear or a disaster, to make a cow give more milk and to make ill tempered animals well behave. Seydisul Mausoleum in Altintas District of Kutahya province, which has been known for its quarries since ancient times, is open to visitors today. Within the scope of this study, the architectural presentationand decoration features of the tomb are emphasized and an evaluation is made. Up-to-date photographs, plan drawings and decoration drawings were used in the promotion of the building.With the introduction of the tomb, which is dated to the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century with its architectural and ornamental features, it is aimed to contribute to the field of architectural history by settling its place within the Anatolian Turkish Architecture. The Seydisul Mausoleum, which draws attention with the spolia materials in the tomb facades andthe burial it is in, has a square prism body. Despite its plain plan, the structure is important with its dome core, dome skirt, door and window decorations, and painting techniques on dry plaster on thesouth facade wall. It is seen that “S-C” fold, curtain motif and flower arrangements are included inthe decoration.","PeriodicalId":39168,"journal":{"name":"Turk Kulturu ve Haci Bektas Veli - Arastirma Dergisi","volume":"17 1","pages":"79-94"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77255758","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Saint Husayn was martyred by the soldiers of Yazid, who has declared himself as khalifa in Karbala. Various works were produced to describe this harrowingincident. One of them is Nâle-i Ussâk, which was written by Mustafa Âsim born in 1856, in Istanbul and died in 1904, in Trabzon. The poet has imitated the work of Kazim Pasha from Konice namedRiyâz-i Asfiyâ. The work is a masnavi consisting of 141 couplets. The poet explained that he has written this work because he wished to describe the harrowing incident of the great person, Saint Husayn, in Karbala, after starting his work with basmala. The poet told about deaths of the Prophet Muhammad, Saint Fatima, Saint Abu Bakr, Saint Omar, Saint Othman, Saint Ali and Saint Hasan in his work. After that, he started to the main topic he wished to tell. According to the work, Mu‘âwiyahas declared his son Yazid as khalifa. Yazid has requested Saint Husayn to obey him. People of Kūfe have stated that they will support Saint Husayn and called him there, then he has departed towards there. When he has arrived Karbala, Ibn Ziyâd, one of Yazid’s commanders, and his soldiers encircledthem. Firstly, they have left them without water, then attacked them. Although Saint Husayn and his neighbours were few in number, they fought heroically. But the heretic named Shimr bin Zi’l-jawshanhas martyrized Saint Husayn. Saint Husayn’s family and friends were first exiled to Damascus and then to Hijaz. This incident caused grief in the entire Muslim world. Even angels in the sky cried and groaned. Mustafa Âsim described the event in his work in accordance with historical facts. Inthis study, it is tried to evaluate the work of Mustafa Âsim named Nâle-i Ussâk, and transcribed text of the work is provided at the end. In addition, it has been tried to indicate similar or different aspects of Koniceli Kazim Pasha’s work named Riyâz-i Asfiyâ.","PeriodicalId":39168,"journal":{"name":"Turk Kulturu ve Haci Bektas Veli - Arastirma Dergisi","volume":"169 1","pages":"131-148"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86893642","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the adoption of Islam, i.e. the process of Islamization of theTurks is a multi-layered subject. There are still many questions that are not answered properly, thus waiting to be investigated. The nature of the political and military conditions of the period is very important in evaluating the process of Islamization of the Turks. The work titled Mu‘īn al-Murīd written by Ersari Bay’s request sheds an important light on this subject. The members of the ErsariTribe, mostly living in Turkmenistan and whose population is around one and a half million today, are still grateful for Ersari Bay’s leadership and the decisions he took, in terms of Islamization. In thisstudy, the conditions of the 12th century, the results of the Mongol raids and how Ersari Bay made his decision that affected the history will be examined. Subsequently, we will take a closer look at how Islam is explained to the nomadic Turkmens by means of Mu‘īn al-Murīd.","PeriodicalId":39168,"journal":{"name":"Turk Kulturu ve Haci Bektas Veli - Arastirma Dergisi","volume":"39 1","pages":"117-130"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85707587","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Especially the belief and love for the people who are believed to be capable of showing extraordinary miracles have preceded others. When they passed away, their tombs have become one of the placesfrequented by people. Anatolian people have shown love and respect to such great people for years, and accepted their graves as a supreme authority. In this context, visiting tombs where people pray and offer sacrifices to God, has gained a great importance. When their prayers are accepted, they would pay another visit to the tombs to sacrifice their offerings. Besides, they perform their prayers through different practices in order to be accepted. Such practices and rituals revolving around the tombs have continued for years and survived to the present day.The Hamza Baba Mausoleum, located in Kemalpasa District of Izmir, continues to exist as a mausoleum that has been visited by Anatolian people for years, where they offered sacrifices, and performed various practices and rituals. This study focuses on Hamza Baba Tomb, as it contains both traces of Turkish culture and Alawi-Bektashi traditions. The study consist of three essential parts, namely the Hamza Baba Mausoleum, the Bektashi tradition that is followed by Hamza Baba, the practices and rituals performed around the mausoleum. To this end, interviews were conducted with the villagers who live in where the tomb is located, and written sources were consulted to discuss thedata gained during fieldwork and enrich the study.","PeriodicalId":39168,"journal":{"name":"Turk Kulturu ve Haci Bektas Veli - Arastirma Dergisi","volume":"69 1","pages":"149-160"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74772393","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Various propagandamethods were carried out against the Islamic values adopted by the Kazakh society with this cultural momentum, which lasted about 10 centuries, the annexation of Tsarist Russia and the colonial administration that followed, and the policy of atheism, which was adopted by the Soviet Communist party for 70 years. In the early years, the Soviet administration carefully treated the religious feelings of the nativeKazakh Turks. On the one hand, the Bolsheviks pledged to “protect Muslims” and their rights, on the other hand tried to destroy their democratic principles. In the second half of the 1920’s, the“violent attack” policy against Islam started in the USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics). The totalitarian system, which strengthened until the end of the 1920’s, implemented a politicalcampaign against the clergy. The organs of the OGPU (United States Political Administration under the People’sCommissariat Council of the USSR) used various methods to prevent the unification of the country’s Muslims and the political empowerment of religious and clergymen and their National intellectuals. The Bolsheviks made decisions regarding the registration of religious associations, opening andclosing mosques, and managed to control cultural legislation. This new communist order led to restrictions and violations of public rights and initiated harsh administrative control over all religious activities of the country. Within these restrictions, Islam was attacked more than other religions. Afterthe establishment of the communist administration in Kazakhstan, the first period of famine began in 1921–1922, the policy of collectivization after 1926, the new economic policy and the second period of hunger, followed by the policy of exposing the elite and genocide of the local population. Thus, in this article, the ban on Muslim religious organizations, the persecution of mollas and imams,the closure of mosques, the role of Islam in Kazakhstan, and the issue of famine were classified based on archival documents.","PeriodicalId":39168,"journal":{"name":"Turk Kulturu ve Haci Bektas Veli - Arastirma Dergisi","volume":"156 1","pages":"171-189"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73447623","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Kazakh people called the male shamans “Baksi” and the female shamans “Elti”. While travellers, scholars, historians and folklore researchers who visited Kazakhlands in various historical periods, witnessed the ceremonies of the Baksi, they wrote the inspirational powers and the mysterious movements they saw as they were. Baksis associate people with the souls of the dead and mythological heroes. When Baksi’s chanted aloud, they called the elves to help andeach Baksi have had their own pīr (spiritual guide). They picked up kopuz, dombra (Kazakh musical instruments) and sticks. Baksis have had the characteristics of bard, murmurer, physician, magician, and composer, and always kept their own features secret and did not raise students. Although thelanguage of the tunes, which they sing with the same rhythm, have a feature close to folk poetry, they have changed in terms of content according to the course of time.\u0000In the southern region of Kazakhstan, the peculiarities began to be investigated scientifically starting from the 19th century and researchers, such as Chokan Velikhanov, Iyosif Kastanie, Abubakir Divayev, Ishmurat Ibragimov, Nikolay Grodekov, Lev Berg, and Petr Komarov tried to solve the mystery.Adolf Yanushkevich and Rihard Karut’s studies can be considered as data for comparative analysis. In that case, it is possible to hear the voice of the society to the degree of their contact with the state. Today, however, historians seek answers to such more specific questions as to what thesocieties and individuals think and what kind of lives they lead. At this juncture, we discover a new source that would contribute to a new historicism and it has been analyzed under the light of newapproaches. This source is The Visitor Guest Book of the Tomb of Hazrat Haji Bektashi Veli that is registered with the number 2216 in the General Directorate of Foundations and that covers the datesbetween 13rd December 1921 and 29st August 1925.
