In an ADT, failure occurs when the performance characteristic crosses the critical value the first time. The model parameters are estimated using method of maximum likelihood. The optimum plan consists of finding the optimum number of specimens, optimum stress change point(s), and optimum stress rates by minimising asymptotic variance of estimate of q-th quantile life at use condition, subject to the constraint that total testing or experimental cost does not exceed a pre-specified budget. A numerical example is given to demonstrate the proposed model. Sensitivity analysis is carried out to examine the robustness of the proposed plan. A comparative study is performed to highlight the merit of the proposed plan.","PeriodicalId":39031,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Reliability and Safety","volume":"125 23","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-03-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41247903","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A Third order Polynomial Normal Transformation (TPNT) approach is used in this work. The underlying idea is to approximate the Cumulative Distribution Function (CDF) of the response in probit space using a third order polynomial while imposing monotonicity constraints. The current work proposes to apply log transformation to the ordinate of the transformed CDF and hence names the approach Log-TPNT. The log transformed data assists in improved fitting to the tails of the distribution resulting in better predictions of extreme values. Log-TPNT is demonstrated on a suite of statistical distributions covering all types of tails and analytical examples that cover aspects of high dimensions, non-linearity and system reliability. Results reveal that Log-TPNT can predict the response values corresponding to high reliability, with samples as scarce as 9. Finally, the variations associated with the response estimates are quantified using bootstrap.","PeriodicalId":39031,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Reliability and Safety","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-03-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43071769","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At present, most studies about stability of the lattice boom are based on certain parameters. Considering the uncertainty of the design parameters in actual design and production, the local stress of the lattice boom should be analysed with uncertainty. We propose a response surface method based on D-optimal design to simulate the relationship between each parameter and the local stress of the chord. Based on the obtained response surface function, Monte Carlo method is used to analyse the reliability of the lattice boom. The analysis results show that the uncertainty of the design parameters has a great influence on the local stress of the lattice boom. The initial imperfection factor has the greatest influence, and the interaction between the parameters is relatively small except the initial imperfection factor. The response surface method based on D-optimal design can simulate the complex model function relationship and simplify the complex model, which is highly efficient. So, it has broad application prospects in large-scale complex models.","PeriodicalId":39031,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Reliability and Safety","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66709656","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Explicitly, a k-out-of-n: G system with a functional state and N failure modes is taken into account. Failure time of each failure mode is random. At each inspection and on failure detection, perfect repairs are carried out. Some theorems on the point availability, limiting availability and long-run average cost rate are obtained in the study. A condition for determining the optimal inspection period for minimum long-run average cost rate is also studied. The proposed work focuses on reliability analysis of precast Prestressed Hollow Core (PHC) slabs in terms of statistical properties of the contributing parameters using Monte Carlo simulation. The random variables relating to geometrical dimensions of PHC slab such as effective depth (dp) and web-width (bw) for different grades of concrete (fc) are considered for analysis. The numerical models on ANSYS APDL release18.1 and Concise Beam ver.4.7 are validated with the experimental results with respect to failure load and deflection. The bending moments corresponding to failure loads under single Line Loading (LL) at mid span, Two Line Loading (TLL) and Uniformly Distributed Loading (UDL) cases were evaluated by modelling using Concise Beam software. Meaningful interpretation of algebraic inequalities has been used for generating new knowledge in unrelated application domains. Thus, the method of segmentation through an abstract inequality led to a new theorem related to electrical circuits. The power output from a source with particular voltage, on elements connected in series, is smaller than the total power output from the segmented sources applied to the individual elements. Segmentation attained through the same abstract inequality led to another new theorem related to electrical capacitors. The energy stored by a charge of given size on a single capacitor is smaller than the total energy stored in multiple capacitors with the same equivalent capacity, by segmenting the initial charge over the separate capacitors. Finally, inequalities based on sub-additive and super-additive functions have been introduced for reducing uncertainty and obtaining superior performance by a segmentation or aggregation of controlling factors. By a meaningful interpretation of sub-additive and super-additive inequalities, superior performance has been achieved for processes described by a power-law dependence.","PeriodicalId":39031,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Reliability and Safety","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66709491","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the virtual age used for measuring the effect of imperfect maintenance is an unintuitive variable in models in the literature, leading to discrepancies between evaluation results and real situations. To solve this problem, a failure rate update model that considers virtual age and failure intensity update factors is proposed. In this model, the virtual age factor is determined by intuitive variables, and the failure intensity update factor is determined on the basis of virtual age, reflected by the virtual age factor. A brief illustration of the validity and feasibility of the proposed model is presented, based on real maintenance data. The results obtained through numerical experiments, sensitivity analysis, and a case study demonstrates that the proposed model can accurately reflect system reliability level in a convenient manner.","PeriodicalId":39031,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Reliability and Safety","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66709602","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
