The light show on the cathedral’s façade was a significant part of the 2010 European Capital of Culture programme. This paper investigates the impact of this dynamic art on the audience’s sensory experience using biometric technology. We evaluate six patterns projected onto buildings, which were distinguished parts of the animated light shows. For the attraction analysis of the animations’ key visual pattern frames, we use 3M’s VAS eye tracking simulation software. Furthermore, in parallel with Nikos Salingaros’ engagement-theory on architectural facades, we explore how visual stimulation changes when projecting artificial light works on them. By establishing comparative groups of visual contrasts (i.e., figurative, space simulating, dynamic, or abstract), we obtain various levels of engagement.","PeriodicalId":388648,"journal":{"name":"11th ACAU 2022: Proceedings of 11th International PhD Students Conference","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131291994","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It identifies the existing gap between the countries with the highest number, percentage, and dimensions of slums, with those on which the largest number of research papers aimed at improving the habitability conditions of their citizens are published.","PeriodicalId":388648,"journal":{"name":"11th ACAU 2022: Proceedings of 11th International PhD Students Conference","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126786216","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The region was chosen because of the required buildings´ insulation. It´s presence will be con-fronted with the traditional use of architectural language. Reduction of the facade´s traditional elements will be evaluated by using simplified architectural composition categories. Positive and negative examples of the design will be determined.","PeriodicalId":388648,"journal":{"name":"11th ACAU 2022: Proceedings of 11th International PhD Students Conference","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126529269","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research seeks to understand what the shared space approach is and what the reasons for its origin are. It defines the tools used in shared spaces. Furthermore, it seeks to identify the challenges and opportunities for improving the residential quality of central mixed-use streets. The key objective is to expand knowledge about the current theory in the Czech Republic.","PeriodicalId":388648,"journal":{"name":"11th ACAU 2022: Proceedings of 11th International PhD Students Conference","volume":"131 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127023453","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mitigating climate conditions in the category Cfa","authors":"Karolína Burešová","doi":"10.13164/phd.fa2022.2","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.13164/phd.fa2022.2","url":null,"abstract":": Vernacular architecture is a source of inspiration and guidance for the design of housing in a particular region, as well as for protecting and improving the environment, it shows the use of the proper material and can save energy costs, as these buildings cope with the climate through the passive design strategy. The case study discovers the unmechanised architectural form of the elements, which react to the climate conditions on the built environment of the vernacular architecture. The cases are selected according to the Köppen climate classification calculated for the Czech Republic for the period 2071-2100, which is in the category Cfa, along with European cases in the same category Italy, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Spain, and Krasnodar-Russia. These representatives are observed by Google Street View, and the forms of the architecture are compared. The potential of the research is to use the results in combination with architectural elements of the vernacular(1), contemporary(2) and ecological(3) housing architecture to design a new balanced housing model.","PeriodicalId":388648,"journal":{"name":"11th ACAU 2022: Proceedings of 11th International PhD Students Conference","volume":"12 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121016313","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It focuses on the urban qualities of the Žižkov district, a late 19th century housing development in Prague, acknowledged in discussions over its replacement by a prefabricated housing estate in late 1980s. A theoretical concept introduced by Maurice Halbwachs is applied in order to propose a perspective indicating that these qualities developed gradually over time, as Žižkov was becoming a framework of collective memory.","PeriodicalId":388648,"journal":{"name":"11th ACAU 2022: Proceedings of 11th International PhD Students Conference","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134641733","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
