The proposed system supports packet transport layer features based on PBB-TE. The restoration time from a link failure is measured to be about 20 ms and 11.8 ms, respectively, in the packet transport layer and optical transport layer. The measured restoration time is much smaller than the 50 ms industry requirement for real-time services. The fast restoration time allows the proposed packet-optic integrated transport system to offer high availability and reliability which is a requirement for transport networks.","PeriodicalId":388031,"journal":{"name":"Digest of the 9th International Conference on Optical Internet (COIN 2010)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122654295","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fiber is characterized by specially designed core and cladding. Dual shape core and leaky cladding of the fiber is designed to make the fiber leaky only for the higher order modes. Mode filtering of all higher-order modes is governed by the leakage loss of the LP11 mode. Fiber is able to demonstrate single-mode operation with effective mode area as large as ∼1000 µm2. Proposed fiber of few multi-layers can be fabricated by modified chemical vapor deposition technique (MCVD). A fiber with such a large mode area can suppress the nonlinear effects and should be useful for high power applications, including fiber lasers and optical communication systems employing dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM).","PeriodicalId":388031,"journal":{"name":"Digest of the 9th International Conference on Optical Internet (COIN 2010)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125749407","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The code reconfiguration is achieved by exclusively assigning to each network user a set of orthogonal or pseudo-orthogonal codes and randomly selecting one among them to represent each user's signature. A central node station is assumed to monitor network traffic condition and to signal transceiver coder-decoder pair to perform signature codes changing. We illustrate the confidentiality enhancement by dynamically reconfiguring user signatures using prime-lengths M-sequence codes. When the set of signature codes increases and the eavesdropper's codes detection becomes more difficult, thus network confidentiality is significantly increased.","PeriodicalId":388031,"journal":{"name":"Digest of the 9th International Conference on Optical Internet (COIN 2010)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130201101","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
