Stylistically and chronologically, their construction went through three phases during the eighteenth century. The oldest ones stand under the triumphal arch and may be dated to the first quarter of the eighteenth century. The altar on the left was originally dedicated to St. Nicholas, whose figure is carved on the altar frontal. It was the work of an unknown workshop influenced by the Pacassi family of altar builders from Gorizia. The sculptures were produced by an unknown local master who was familiar with the opus of Angelo De Putti, the travelling sculptor from Padua. On the right side of the triumphal arch, the Altar of the Blessed Sacrament was accomplished by an unknown master who drew inspiration from the works of the sculptor and altar builder Paolo Zuliani from Gradisca d’Isonzo. The most important of all, the marble altar was commissioned about 1741 from the Rijeka sculptor Antonio Michelazzi for the Chapel of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Rosary, constructed shortly before that. Finally, a monumental new main altar was built about 1780 by the sculptors Sebastiano Petruzzi and Giovanni Battista Zipperla.","PeriodicalId":38751,"journal":{"name":"Kronika","volume":" 31","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139239795","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On his way between Postojna and Rijeka, the emperor spent the night of 14 to 15 September and again the night of 18 to 19 September in Trnovo, today a part of Ilirska Bistrica. Three sources are particularly important for the reconstruction of the emperor’s journey and his stops in the wider area of the present-day municipality of Ilirska Bistrica, namely, the Ceremonial Protocol, preserved in the House, Court and State Archives in Vienna, the publication on the Carniolan Act of Hereditary Homage of 1739 by Karl Seyfrid Perizhoffer, and a travelogue written after 1735 by Johann Adam von Heintz. From the following source we know that the emperor spent both nights in the Trnovo parish house and that at that time the town had problems with water supply, which had to be fetched in buckets from the Bistrica River.","PeriodicalId":38751,"journal":{"name":"Kronika","volume":"74 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139239092","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main source for the research was the Provincial Estates’ Registry Protocol, which contains three direct and several indirect references to the spread of the contagious disease in the territory of the present-day Municipality of Ilirska Bistrica: between August and November 1631, the epidemic was recorded in Zabiče, Podgraje, Kuteževo, and Zemon. The Provincial Estates of Carniola attempted to prevent the spread of the disease by deploying plague guards, who first took control of the provincial borders in July; in August, they began to isolate the infected areas within the province itself and remained in place at least until November. Two documented barriers were set up by hired soldiers within the province: one at the northwestern edge of Loška Dolina and the other at an unknown location in the Reka River valley.","PeriodicalId":38751,"journal":{"name":"Kronika","volume":"20 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139240806","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Gerbič’s years in Trnovo represent his formative period, during which he was aged between seventeen and twenty-eight years and he obtained most of his music education, first as an autodidact and then as a Prague student. Drawing on his autobiography, memoirs, and especially documents on the school and teachers kept by the Archiepiscopal Archives of Ljubljana, the article presents Gerbič’s life and work in Trnovo and among its inhabitants. During his studies in Prague, they supported him for three years with their own funds allocated to his teacher’s salary. A few months after returning to his homeland, Gerbič renounced his teacher position in Trnovo for reasons not entirely clear.","PeriodicalId":38751,"journal":{"name":"Kronika","volume":"16 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139241504","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
