In that scheme, hospitality takes a very important place. Specially, if we consider the fact that the people of Israel has been considered as a foreigner into the empires which immense exten- sions subjugate it. On the basis of this context, the moments when Hebrews openly fight with these empires will be significant. Then, we will analyze in this work the Fourth Book of Maccabees because it fictionalizes a historic period of strong and hard confrontation. We understand that into it both narrative procedure of historical circularity and the hospitality as a cultural topic are conjugated, to build with clear and unambiguous marks the text's central characters. That is why we will try to find features that can be typificated in an opposition scale [positive/negative]. In this perspective, the qualification of the participatory bodies proposed by the Code of Canon Law as «only consultative» is problem- atic for a modern democratic sensibility. After evoking the anchoring of synodality in the mystery of the Church, the author recalls that this concept alludes both to a style, a habitus, and to processes and institutions that involve the protagonism of all the faithful as well as the singular role of the pastoral ministry. On the one hand we have the investigations that have arisen within the Church, among which the works of Salvaire, Presas and Duran stand out. But -especially since the 1980s- studies have appeared that approach the history of the Church from a non-confessional perspective. These researchers were also interested in the phenomenon of Lujan and some of its interpretations conflict with ecclesial tradition. We believe that it can be very enriching to establish a dialogue between the two perspectives. In order to do this, we need methodological guidelines and in this work we try to delineate them from the proposal of Bernard Lonergan.
