Most commonly it metabolizes the charcoaled food components, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) or heterocyclic aromatic amines (HAAs) into mutagenic and cytotoxic substances. Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) is formed endogenously from cholesterol and is a precursor of sex hormones. At pharmacological dosage as food supplement DHEA has several known chemo-protective functions. This study is dedicated to modelling of DHEA action in CYP1A2 expression. Based on the experimental data, a hypothesis was formed that DHEA interacts with CYP1A2 mRNA through androgene receptor (AR). To provide evidence for the hypothesis, dedicated experiments in LNCaP and MCF-7 cell lines were performed. First, the cells were exposed to 3-methylcholantrene (MC) as strong CYP1A2 inducer, MC and DHEA, and MC, DHEA and bicalutamide (BC) a known antagonist of AR in three separate experiments. Next, the physiology based model was constructed and validated on the experimental data. The model suggested that AR can play a role in post-transcriptional phase of CYP1A2 expression regulation. Follow-up experiments with actinomycin D, a strong transcription inhibitor were performed and the results confirmed that DHEA is affecting post-transcriptional phase of CYP1A2 expression and that AR is most likely involved in the mechanism.","PeriodicalId":386945,"journal":{"name":"2013 8th EUROSIM Congress on Modelling and Simulation","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114766948","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The idea is to develop machines that present characteristics approximate to the ones observed in biological living creatures. However this objective is still relatively far away and the development of prototypes for these studies is expensive and time consuming, which leads to the creation of models that allow the realization of the intended studies in software. These models should include the main characteristics of biological creatures relevant for locomotion studies. Given this, the presented work describes the development of a quadruped robot model in MATLAB/Simmechanics TM. This model is intended to be used in the development of gaits for legged robots based on Central Pattern Generators. With this purpose in mind, the model was developed in a way to accept different gaits by direct introduction of the angular positions of the knee and hip joints. Various parameters of the robot are also easily changed through a configuration file that accompanies the model. This paper presents the model of a robot with flexible body, its legs and its hip and knee joints. The model of a feet-ground interaction was also modelled using a theoretic model described in the literature.","PeriodicalId":386945,"journal":{"name":"2013 8th EUROSIM Congress on Modelling and Simulation","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116672930","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This evaluation study considered two types of reactive routing protocols, AODV and DSR. The study examined IPv4, IPv6, and Robust Header Compression (ROHC) as a compression/decompression system for IPv6 headers. The evaluation results show that SIP signaling and VoIP traffic are acting poorly over IPv6 even when applying ROHC. In general, AODV has low performance over different types of Random mobility models for MANET nodes, while DSR shows better performance with Static mobility models and bad performance with Random mobility models. When using ROHC for TCP traffic, a level of enhanced performance had shown for SIP based VoIP calls over IPv6 MANET. However ROHC still has longer delays and poor performance compared with SIP based VoIP over IPv4 MANET. Therefore, the SIP signaling for IPv6 MANET reactive protocols require further enhancements for SIP/TCP registration and retransmission timers to be able to employ the capabilities of IPv6 and ROHC system for SIP based VoIP and real-time applications over MANET.","PeriodicalId":386945,"journal":{"name":"2013 8th EUROSIM Congress on Modelling and Simulation","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123766666","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus in order to minimize the losses caused by the externalities, aircrafts must be reallocated (rescheduled) in the best possible way. The aim of this paper is to develop a suitable methodology that combines optimization techniques with a simulation approach to tackle the so-called Stochastic Aircraft Recovery Problem. The approach solves the problem through the rescheduling of the flight plan using delays, swaps, and cancellations. The main objective of the optimization model is to restore as much as possible the original flight schedule, minimizing the total delay and the number of cancelled flights. By applying simulation techniques, the robustness of the given solution is assessed. The proposed methodology is applied on a medium-sized scenario based on real data provided by a commercial airline. The obtained results show that the methodology described in the paper is capable of producing a feasible and robust solution for this problem.","PeriodicalId":386945,"journal":{"name":"2013 8th EUROSIM Congress on Modelling and Simulation","volume":"29 22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128920435","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is based on a double blind CDMA technology. The proposed approach assumes that several users (medical practitioners, doctors) are transmitting images from one location to another simultaneously. The images are encoded using two-steps procedure: 1) coding the pixels (users) using spatial Optical Orthogonal Signature Patterns (OOSPs) and 2) coding the bits using time orthogonal basis functions. The encoding procedure follows the compression of images to reduce the occurrence of ghost pulses and to increase the transmission rate. Then, the encoded images are combined using a multiplexer and the results are transmitted over multi-core optical fiber. The aim of this approach is to achieve a fast transmission (parallel transmission). At the receiver end, the information is collected and is de-multiplexed to identify the user and to reconstruct the original images i.e. is decoded using the same double blind Orthogonal Signatures and compression techniques that are implemented for encoding purposes. The performance is quantitatively evaluated using Monte-Carlo simulation techniques by studying different criteria: Bit Error Rate, Root Mean Square Error and Pixel Error Rate.","PeriodicalId":386945,"journal":{"name":"2013 8th EUROSIM Congress on Modelling and Simulation","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123045875","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research exploited a data set of 72 hours. each country was expressed by a randomly selected 12-hour dataset, each dataset was divided into two-hour segments, each segment was modeled as a binary time series. From the 36 segments, 26 segments were found stationary. For Stationary segments, the research investigated the segment correlation and used it as a modeling reference. 11 segments were modeled using Bernoulli model, 12 segments were modeled using 2-state Markov chain and 5 segments showed k-th order Markov chain tendencies with orders 2, 3, 8, 27, 38. The models were built under 0.05 threshold in average filter condition of stationary and with confidence of 95% for lag dependency selection. After modeling each segment independently, an average loss model for each country was calculated using its modeled segments. confidence of these models were 95%. To ensure high quality water an efficient monitoring and control of a water treatment process is essential. In this study, two common quality variables of treated water, turbidity and residual aluminium, are modelled using the cross-validation method. Selected variables for developing the models are easy and reliable to measure on-line from raw water source. The linguistic equation (LE) approach based on nonlinear scaling and linear interactions produces models, which can be used in addition to predicting the water quality, for monitoring and controlling the water treatment process. The goal of the control simulation was to minimize the turbidity by controlling the coagulation chemical dose and see how this affects the residual aluminium level in drinking water. The results showed that the developed models were accurate and followed the changes in measured water quality variable. Results of the control simulation suggest that the water quality can be improved by proper control and optimizing the chemical dosing, as minimizing the turbidity reduces the residual aluminium level.","PeriodicalId":386945,"journal":{"name":"2013 8th EUROSIM Congress on Modelling and Simulation","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130911859","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is even more important for the fashion industry were forecasts are used both for yearly demand estimations and for real-time forecasts. Yearly estimations are usually important because it is difficult in terms of production rate to face demand deviation in short time and, to this end, they allow increasing the responsiveness of the system. Also real time estimations are important for implementing better transshipment policies between stores belonging to the same supply chain echelon. In this paper the problem of demand forecasting in the fashion industry is approached from a different point of view. In particular, a forecasting model based on the use of multiple autoregressive algorithms and disaggregation policies is proposed. A case study showcases the validity of the proposed algorithms by using a Modeling & Simulation based approach.","PeriodicalId":386945,"journal":{"name":"2013 8th EUROSIM Congress on Modelling and Simulation","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116984972","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
