Methods: Original prospective observational studies were searched through PubMed, Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), ProQuest, Web of Science, Science Direct, Koreanstudies Information Service System (KISS), and DBpia published up to March 2020. The Relative Risks (RRs) were calculated using the random-effects model. Results: An integrated analysis of ten large population-based cohort studies, involving 10,730,117 participants, showed that patients with DM had a 30% higher risk of PD than those without DM (pooled RR=1.30, 95% Confidence Interval [CI]=1.14~1.48). Subgroup analyses based on the characteristics of the studies were conducted, and the association between DM and PD was significant in studies conducted in Asia (RR=1.30, 95% CI=1.01~1.69) and Europe (RR=1.45, 95% CI=1.09~1.94), and for patients with DM durations less than ten years (RR=1.31, 95% CI=1.27~1.37) and stroke (RR=1.16, 95% CI=1.03~1.31). Each study included in the analysis had methodologically good quality and showed no evidence of publication bias. Conclusion: DM resulted in a significantly increased risk of PD; therefore, prevention and early detection of PD in patients with DM should be encouraged.","PeriodicalId":38646,"journal":{"name":"Korean Journal of Adult Nursing","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71353574","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: The hybrid model was used to clarify the dimension, attributes, and definition of spiritual distress. In the theoretical phase, a systemic literature review of nursing and other disciplines was conducted. In the fieldwork phase, individual in-depth interviews were held with six cancer patients. In the final analytic phase, the results of the theoretical and fieldwork phases were integrated after comparing and reviewing. Results: The concept of spiritual distress was analyzed in three domains: a changed relationship with God, a changed relationship with the self, and a changed relationship with others. Also, 10 attributes were clarified. The changed relationship with God domain had two attributes: “low connectedness in relationship with God” and a “feeling of guilt”. The changed relationship with the self domain had five attributes: “loss of self-identity”, “changed meaning of life”, “loss of inner peace”, “dwelling on the cause of unsloved suffering”, and “avoidance of confronting death”. The changed relationship with others domain had three attributes: “shrunk relationships”, “the feeling of being unloved and unforgivable”, and “burden on family”. Conclusion: The concept of spiritual distress in patients with cancer encompasses multidimensional domains and 10 attributes. To assess spiritual distress in patients with cancer based on the findings of this study, it is necessary to develop a suitable spiritual distress assessment scale.","PeriodicalId":38646,"journal":{"name":"Korean Journal of Adult Nursing","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71353082","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: Twenty registered nurses who provided care for the COVID-19 affected patients participated in this study. Data were collected using three focus groups with 19 participants, and in-depth interviews with 11. Data were analyzed by qualitative content analysis. Results: Seven categories and 18 subcategories were extracted. The seven categories were ‘Hesitating to move forward’, ‘Standing up with the name of nurse’, ‘Experiencing unfamiliarity and confusion’, ‘Walking on thin ice every day’, ‘Getting used to working’, ‘Growing one step further’ and ‘Being left with an unsolved issue’. The experiences of participants changed over time. In the preparation phase the participants experienced fear of the unknown, but eventually they decided to enter the COVID-19 battlefield. After the opening of the COVID-19 wards, participants were confused and felt nervous because everything was unfamiliar and undefined. While they gradually adapted to work and they felt that they grew as nurses through these experiences. They were also concerned about several unresolved issues, including ethical dilemmas about patient care, optimal working environment and compensation for work. Conclusion: This study provides an understanding of nurses’ working experiences at a COVID-19 dedicated hospital over a time interval. These findings suggest multidimensional implications for future studies and policy making on nursing management issues and on patients care in the pandemic era. © 2021 Korean Society of Adult Nursing. This study aimed to investigate the effects of nurse-led motivational interviewing on self-efficacy for exercise, engagement in regular exercise, exercise capacity, and quality of life among patients with heart failure. Methods: A randomized controlled trial design was used, and 66 Korean participants (i.e., 38 in a control group and 28 in an intervention group) aged 40~80 years who were diagnosed with heart failure were recruited between May 2012 and September 2013. The intervention group received telephone-based motivational interviews twice a week for one month. All participants were assessed for exercise regularity, levels of exercise, exercise capacity, and quality of life at baseline, one month, and three months. The data were analyzed using independent t-tests, repeated measures ANOVA, and nonparametric tests. Results: At one month, there were significant group differences in exercise regularity ( x 2 =6.10, p =.013) and levels of exercise (Z=-2.56, p =.024). There was a significant group-by-time effect on the quality of life (F=3.76, p =.044). Conclusion: Nurse-led motivational interviewing was effective in increasing exercise levels and quality of life in patients with heart failure. In the future, we propose a study with a larger number of participants and a long-term follow-up study with additional contact to maintain the intervention effect.","PeriodicalId":38646,"journal":{"name":"Korean Journal of Adult Nursing","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71353990","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: This study uses a cross-sectional descriptive research design. The participants were 150 nurses at a general hospital. The data were collected from February 10 to May 10, 2020. The questionnaire consisted of measuring tools for general characteristics, patient-centered care, nursing competency, nursing work environment, and burnout. The SPSS/25.0 program was used to analyze the data using descriptive statistics, Pearson ’ s correlation coefficient, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe ́ test, and hierarchical multiple regression. Results: The average score of patient-centered care was found to be 3.75 ± 0.44. Nursing competency had a mean score of 3.64 ± 0.44, nursing work environment of 3.04 ± 0.43, and burnout of 2.91 ± 0.68. Patient-centered care was significantly associated with nursing competency, nursing work environment, and burnout. In the relationship between nursing competency and patient-centered care, burnout had a partial mediating effect. The relationship between nursing competency and patient-centered care showed that nursing work environment had no moderating effect. Conclusion: The results revealed that patient-centered care was performed well if nursing competency was high. It is necessary to lower burnout and increase nursing competency such that patient-centered care can be performed better. In addition, since nursing work environment has a significant effect on nursing competency and patient-centered care, it is necessary to improve nursing work environment to improve nursing competency and patient-centered care","PeriodicalId":38646,"journal":{"name":"Korean Journal of Adult Nursing","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71353439","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
