Hence continuous monitoring of roof convergence is important to predict roof fall. A suitable monitoring system for roof convergence may be installed in underground mines to mitigate problems associated with roof falls. This paper explains the development of a new real-time integrated roof monitoring system based on an ultrasonic distance measurement sensor that has been deployed in the continuous miner workings for the measurement of roof convergence. The roof convergence data is processed to develop the continuous miner working index (CMWI) using statistical techniques and CMWI is very useful for predicting roof convergence in continuous miner workings to improve the safety of operations.","PeriodicalId":38622,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Mining and Mineral Engineering","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66731816","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An explanatory methodology was used. Through econometric models, the relationship and/or interaction between the variables that had an impact on the defined dependent variable was demonstrated. This study used a new proxy variable to quantify geological potential: mining production value. Likewise, a new variable, land area/population, and other variables such as exploration expenditures, index of economic freedom, mining reserves, surface area and population were included. Following the formulations of previous studies, three models were estimated: linear logarithm, normalised and competitiveness model. It is concluded that, the greater the geological potential and investment climate, the higher investment in mineral exploration will be. Meanwhile, high population density leads to the opposite effect. Future studies should consider other variables or even new formulations to more robustly explain the competitiveness of countries to appear attractive to mineral investments.","PeriodicalId":38622,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Mining and Mineral Engineering","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-08-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44998854","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study demonstrated a disaster prevention approach involving the transient electromagnetic method and drainage drillings into the water-rich areas before mining, and evaluated the drainage effect. The research followed three steps: 1) three water-rich areas were identified in the sandstone aquifer K8; 2) in the water-rich areas, three drilling sites were designed, and ten holes were drilled; 3) water outflow from the drilling holes decreased obviously over time, and the water-rich areas almost disappeared following water drainage. The total volume of drained water was more than the predicted value; hence, the approach met the requirements for water drainage. This technical system of water disaster prevention and control was proposed for circumstances of mining under roof aquifers, which included geophysical prospecting, drilling exploration, water drainage, and effect evaluation.","PeriodicalId":38622,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Mining and Mineral Engineering","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-08-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45560642","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, two common artificial intelligence techniques; artificial neural network (ANN) and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) were used to achieve this aim. The input variables include rock quality designation, discontinuity spacing, groundwater inflow, discontinuity conditions, and penetration rate. The target variable was the rock mass rating index. Coefficient of determination (R2), root mean squared error (RMSE), and variance accounted for (VAF) were calculated to assess the developed models. The R2, VAF, and RMSE values of 0.922, 92.08%, and 2.284 respectively for ANN indicates a lower prediction output than the ANFIS model with R2, VAF, and RMSE values of 0.925, 92.27%, and 2.054 respectively. The results show that ANFIS outperformed ANN in predicting rock mass rating.","PeriodicalId":38622,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Mining and Mineral Engineering","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-08-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43453941","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A detailed stability analysis need to be conducted to control these strata issues and estimate the optimum coal panel size and support system. In this paper, the stability analysis of the panel and design of the support system are presented for safe winning of inclined coal seam using 2D and 3D numerical modelling approach. The panel is developed by rhombus pillars of 25 m × 25 m size with 4.2 m and 4.8 m wide galleries and being proposed for depillaring. 3D and 2D numerical models are used to analyse the development of stresses during depillaring operation and determine the working conditions respectively. This study suggests the suitable pillar size, gallery width, mining height and the required support resistance.","PeriodicalId":38622,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Mining and Mineral Engineering","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-08-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47835274","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
