However, appearances of various applications and unlimited data plans have caused a drastic increase of smartphone traffic. For solving rapidly-increasing smartphone traffic, domestic mobile communications providers promoted a free Wi-Fi alternate routing strategy which is provided in the houses and public areas or network evolution to 4G network. For stable operation of network and guarantee of service quality corresponding to the explosively increasing smartphone traffic, however, fundamental analysis through monitoring on the smartphone traffic must be carried out. This study measures smartphone traffic by developing a smartphone traffic log information collection agents and loading it in the smartphone. Based on the above, this study suggests the result of analysis on the features of various aspects of smartphone traffic.","PeriodicalId":385920,"journal":{"name":"2012 14th Asia-Pacific Network Operations and Management Symposium (APNOMS)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131684314","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition, management of increased Internet traffic is regarded as important to provide stable services guaranteeing QoS (Quality of Service) and security. In particular, for the HTTP traffic, its amount used is also on the rise due to an increase of smart devices, and utilized for a variety of purposes. Therefore, analysis and management on HTTP traffic is getting more important. This paper proposes an analysis method for each site at a server side and application levels at a client side in a server/client model of HTTP traffic. It could understand characteristics of HTTP traffic and prepare an efficient management method for the future increasing HTTP traffic through the integrated analysis in the HTTP traffic's server/client respect. It would like to prove validity of the HTTP traffic analysis method proposed in this paper by collecting traffic of campus networks to apply the proposed methodology.","PeriodicalId":385920,"journal":{"name":"2012 14th Asia-Pacific Network Operations and Management Symposium (APNOMS)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128532618","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The performances of multi-layered protection switching with control-forwarding separation, however, have not been studied in detail. In this paper, we propose a fast fault restoration in multi-layered network with Control-Forwarding separation. The proposed scheme leverages the merits of each layer, such as fast fault detection in WDM Optical layer, traffic engineering in MPLS layer, and hierarchical priority-based resource sharing in IP layer. The performances of the proposed fast fault restoration with control-forwarding separation are analyzed with a series of systematic tests. From the experiments, we found that the fault restoration time in IP/MPLS network with control-forwarding separation is less than 10 msec in a network with 9 forwarding elements in 3 × 3 mesh topology, while it takes around 90ms in a network with 256 nodes (16 × 16) mesh network. These results show that the multi-layered network with control-forwarding separation has scalability for carrier-grade QoS-guaranteed service provisioning.","PeriodicalId":385920,"journal":{"name":"2012 14th Asia-Pacific Network Operations and Management Symposium (APNOMS)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130399249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is mainly due to recent technological advances in wireless communications which consist of a wide range of technologies and applications to fulfill the particular needs of end-users in different deployment scenarios (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, WiMAX, and 3G/4G cellular systems). In such a heterogeneous wireless environment, one of the key ingredients to provide efficient ubiquitous computing is the design of intelligent handoff algorithms which select the optimal target network. This paper presents a novel approach for the design and implementation of a multi-criteria vertical handoff decision algorithm for heterogeneous wireless networks to achieve seamless mobility while maximizing end-users' satisfaction. A weighting scheme is first proposed for the system parameters and consequently, two important modules are proposed. The first module estimates the necessity of handoffs and the other module selects the best network for future connection using a FTOPSIS ranking algorithm. Performance of our scheme is illustrated by an exemplary deployment scenario and also by simulating a practical heterogeneous wireless environment for a single user scenario.","PeriodicalId":385920,"journal":{"name":"2012 14th Asia-Pacific Network Operations and Management Symposium (APNOMS)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128758962","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This system helps operators to work accurately and effectively when they perform installation or removal work at connector panels accommodating a large number of optical fiber cords, and it also enables a database to be accurately constructed. We employ AR technology, which overlays virtual information (or images) on real-world images to support the connection or disconnection of optical fiber cords at a connector panel. The work can be undertaken accurately because image-guided navigation information is provided via an augmented view on a monitor. The proposed system has the potential to be applied to other maintenance scenarios, and to lead to innovations in maintenance work. In this paper, we describe the current issues for optical distribution work at connector panels and show the requirements for the work. Next, we detail the design of our prototype system, and demonstrate the performance of this system experimentally on three conditions (fixed, hand-held and hand-carried). We found that a graphically assisted image was provided to the operators and the support by image-guided navigation was useful for them. Moreover, we discuss the goal and the features of the proposed system. This proposed system when used with AR technology has the advantages of flexibility as well as cost-effectiveness by comparison with LED, VLC and RFID navigation systems .","PeriodicalId":385920,"journal":{"name":"2012 14th Asia-Pacific Network Operations and Management Symposium (APNOMS)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115845275","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many researchers propose to extend GMPLS protocol suite to activate WDM networks, such as by enhancing OSPF-TE, RSVP-TE, etc., the decentralization of control functions is also an inevitable trend of developing WDM networks, when the network continues to scale up. However, the control difficulty is raised by the lack of accurate network state information in this distributed system. Therefore, an effective measure is required to tolerate a certain inaccuracy of such information without significantly increasing the overhead of the control system, such as the traffic volume of the control packets, connection set-up delay, etc. In this paper, a dynamic routing and wavelength assignment with multi-wavelength probing is conceived, which extends our previous case-study toward translucent wavelength convertible WDM networks. For the simulation purpose, we assume that wavelength converters have been sparsely placed in the network, and inside these nodes, the optoelectronic 3R regeneration is potentially obtainable too. The path computation element is served as the calculation unit for the control tasks. In experiment, not only the blocking performance of the proposal is investigated by comparing with traditional single or full probing methods and with centralized control case, but also the control overhead is measured, e.g., update traffic volume, set-up delay. The results reveal that the multi-wavelength probing approach trades off the above two aspects, and is proved to be well-suited for distributed WDM networks.","PeriodicalId":385920,"journal":{"name":"2012 14th Asia-Pacific Network Operations and Management Symposium (APNOMS)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129697833","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Network administrators of organizations such as companies or universities filter IP packets at network equipment such as Layer 3 switch or firewall between their organizations and the Internet to keep the security of the computer networks. One of the expressions of the filtering rules of IP packets is access control list. Access control lists are lists of rules, which describe permission or denial of packet transition based on source IP address, destination IP address, port numbers and so on. Access control lists are not always fixed; network administrators change access control lists according to the change of network topology or network security policy. After several changes, access control lists may include redundancies and network administrators have to modify the access control list to remove redundancies. This modification must keep the semantics of access control list. After modification, the network administrators must confirm that the semantics of access control list does not change. One of the methods of equivalence of two access control lists is to send test IP packets to the network equipment that filters IP packets and to check the transitions of the IP packets. This paper proposes the method of generating test packets to confirm the equivalence of two access control lists.","PeriodicalId":385920,"journal":{"name":"2012 14th Asia-Pacific Network Operations and Management Symposium (APNOMS)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115938498","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We propose a method of classifying detection strategies in order to find a balance between extra calculation and link load. Also we optimized the procedures of one of the strategies so that instead of finding a local optimal solution, we get a global optimal approach. An algorithm that can adapt to multi anomaly link networks is proposed and several issues during detection phase were being discussed. Finally we simulate a former representative algorithm and our improved method on different network topologies. The results show that our improved algorithm outperforms the former one in both probe selecting rounds during detection phase by 10%.","PeriodicalId":385920,"journal":{"name":"2012 14th Asia-Pacific Network Operations and Management Symposium (APNOMS)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120854954","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
