It can be done by multi-channel MAC to utilize the channels resource as much as possible. Wireless nodes are usually powered by battery and thus are limited in power capacity. The IEEE 802.11 Power Saving Mechanism (PSM) is used to conserve energy for the ad hoc networks by allowing nodes to enter doze mode when there is no need for data exchange. In this paper, we propose a hybrid and adaptive protocol, named H-MMAC, by adopting IEEE 802.11 PSM. In H-MMAC, nodes exchange control messages on default channel to negotiate the data channel during the ATIM (Ad hoc traffic Indication Message) window. The difference of H-MMAC compared to other multi-channel MAC protocols is that the other nodes can transmit data packets on data channels based on the network traffic load. This means H-MMAC can utilize the channel resources more efficiently. The simulation results show that our proposed H-MMAC improves the network performance significantly in terms of aggregate throughput, average delay and energy efficiency.","PeriodicalId":385920,"journal":{"name":"2012 14th Asia-Pacific Network Operations and Management Symposium (APNOMS)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126096903","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Internet traffic generated by these applications has increased significantly as well. Network operators are required to be aware of the status of managed networks in terms of application usage. However, the application traffic observed in a network is dependent on users and the geographical location of the network. As a result, selecting applications that are expected to appear frequently in the network is required as the initial step in the generation of ground-truth traffic and extraction of classifiers. In this paper, we propose a traffic identification methodology for the initial step of the classifier generation procedure. The proposed approach is based on remote subnet grouping, which refers to the collection of the same (or similar) application traffic. We also validate the proposed methodology in terms of completeness, feasibility, and accuracy by using the traffic in a campus network.","PeriodicalId":385920,"journal":{"name":"2012 14th Asia-Pacific Network Operations and Management Symposium (APNOMS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128755903","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data Aggregation is of great importance in Wireless Sensor Networks, Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks to transmit the recorded data in time over low bandwidth. In this regard, data aggregation solutions have been developed; however, their actual usage has been limited, for the reason of low accuracy and high processing time. In this paper, particle swarm optimization (PSO) is used to optimize process of multi-objective data aggregation in vehicular ad-hoc network. In our work processing time for aggregation and aggregation quality have been set as objectives. The proposed method has been compared with state of the art existing aggregation techniques. Experimental results show that our method simplifies aggregation effectively and obtains a higher aggregation accuracy compared to the other data aggregation methods.","PeriodicalId":385920,"journal":{"name":"2012 14th Asia-Pacific Network Operations and Management Symposium (APNOMS)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127372087","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Distributed data storage is a key OSS technology that makes OSS highly scalable and provides high performance. Many data allocation methods have been proposed to achieve load-balancing of servers and a short response time. Consistent hashing is one effective method of data allocation, especially when the number of system devices frequently changes. However, existing methods still cause an unbalanced server load and an increase in response time because consistent hashing does not address server performance. Furthermore, these methods do not consider dynamic changes in data access frequency. We proposes a data allocation method using virtual nodes with consistent hashing that takes server performance and data access frequency into account. Simulation results showed that the proposed method achieves much better load-balancing of servers and a shorter response time than existing methods.","PeriodicalId":385920,"journal":{"name":"2012 14th Asia-Pacific Network Operations and Management Symposium (APNOMS)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115807763","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the time of such a disaster, communication systems will play an important role to transfer mitigation information such as instruction for people to move the evacuate area and for contractors to recover city functions. However, mitigation information may be unable to transfer smoothly, because of telecom infrastructure damage and conflicting information. Objective of this research is to clarify system requirements in order to build the mitigation network using wireless LAN systems. Use cases for network design are created based on reports and actions of public organizations when the great East Japan earthquake was happened. We propose the mitigation information network composed of three sub networks; the long-distance wireless LAN for connecting to the backup station in non-disaster area, the midrange wireless LAN for connecting between countermeasures offices, the information gathering and distribution network in disaster area. In order to decide specification of wireless systems and position of antenna, we measure throughput of 2.5GHz and 4.9GHz band between Shinjuku and Hachioji for the long-distance wireless LAN. Also we measure throughput of 4.9GHz band in Nishi-Shinjuku area, where is forest of tall buildings, for the information gathering and distribution network. The mitigation network will be built with these results.","PeriodicalId":385920,"journal":{"name":"2012 14th Asia-Pacific Network Operations and Management Symposium (APNOMS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114324439","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Now, the big issue is to explore benefits from the heterogeneous nature of communication technology. Load balancing among the heterogeneous wireless networks is the primary goal of this paper. Load balancing without considering Quality of Service (QoS) merely inadequate in convergence of resource utilization and grade of service. So, this paper proposed a load balancing algorithm with QoS provisioning. This paper is based on a semi-distributed load balancing architecture. Firstly, IP-flow dividing ratio based soft load balancing approach is discussed for high speed features of next generation wireless networks. Secondly, an admission control function of QoS requirements is developed. Thirdly, a joint optimization function is derived and a load balancing algorithm is proposed by using the cost function. Finally, simulation results are presented for performance appraisal.","PeriodicalId":385920,"journal":{"name":"2012 14th Asia-Pacific Network Operations and Management Symposium (APNOMS)","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127597029","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Currently it is difficult for OSS users to share knowledge because they lack efficient tools to express and share the knowledge. Our proposal rectifies this omission by allowing users to create, update and read the annotations supplied by others. It creates a knowledge exchange environment that is extremely efficient since the annotations are overlaid on OSS windows; the users do not have to waste time searching formal documents such as user manuals and the latest knowledge is made available. The proposal offers the following innovations: 1) Users can create useful annotations while working 2) Users can alter/update annotations interactively, and 3) Knowledge pooling is realized by a central annotation database. The technical advantages of the proposal are confirmed by tests performed on a prototype.
