Empirical studies on the chief determining factors of economic growth have neglected the effect of Islamicity on economic growth. This study expands upon the recent literature on economic growth and Islamicity. By using the Islamicity indices data for the first time, this study provides a brand-new viewpoint on Islamicity and the economic growth nexus in the world, focusing on sub-divisions of high, middle, and low-income countries and the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC). The data spans from 2010 to 2017 while using a dynamic model. By applying the panel techniques, we provide empirical evidence indicating that the Islamicity effect becomes weaker as the economy grows regardless of whether a country is an OIC member.","PeriodicalId":38540,"journal":{"name":"Hamdard Islamicus","volume":"11 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75125623","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
{"title":"IDENTIFYING THE OPTIMAL CASH WAQF LINKED SUKUK: INDONESIAN EXPERIENCE","authors":"DR. RIFKI ISMAL","doi":"10.57144/hi.v45i3.500","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.57144/hi.v45i3.500","url":null,"abstract":"The National Waqf Body (BWI) and Ministry of Finance (MoF) have implemented a model called Cash Waqf Linked Sukuk (CWLS) and issued the Government of Indonesia Sukuk (Islamic securities) namely Sukuk Waqf Indonesia (SWI) in 2020. The intention behind applying CWLS model is to accelerate waqf as one of the Islamic social funds and particularly, to optimize the collection of cash waqf with Islamic securities to serve the public and at the same time to diversify the sovereign securities (Sukuk) in the Islamic financial market. Indeed, it is very crucial to assess the feasibility of the CWLS model as a new sovereign Sukuk instrument in the market despite its sharia compliant aspect. Especially, it needs to undergo a robust academic assessment such as formulation of the model, optimal level of each party such as the government, waqif, waqf management agencies (Nadzhir), etc . This is the objective and main motivation of the research. The paper will answer the following research questions: (i) What is the quantitative formula of SWI model especially SWI issuers and holders? What is the formula of the optimal impacts of SWI model, taking into account two types of waqif? Finally, what is the optimal formula for project financing, given the total cash waqf investment? Then, the paper technically constructs and develops the quantitative formulas of SWI instrument namely BWI, Ministry of Finance (MoF), waqf management agencies (Nadzhir), partners of Nadzhir and waqf investors (waqif). SWI formulation is derived based on SWI’s terms and conditions, cash flow, intentions of waqf investors and tenor of SWI. Later, the optimal impacts of SWI are measured by formulating the present and future values of waqf investment to assess the Net Present Value (NPV) and limit theories to find variables determining the optimal SWI impacts on the public via project financing taking into account two types of waqif namely temporary waqif and permanent waqif. Finally, the paper contributes to the academic assessment of CWLS model (SWI instrument) particularly, it identifies variables determining the optimal implementation of CWLS model which might benefit the waqf stakeholders. {"title":"DARUL ULUM DEOBAND: PRESERVING RELIGIOUS AND CULTURAL INTEGRITY OF SOUTH ASIAN MUSLIMS THROUGH STRUCTURAL AND STRATEGIC INNOVATIONS","authors":"DR. MUHAMMAD NAVEED AKHTAR","doi":"10.57144/hi.v45i3.326","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.57144/hi.v45i3.326","url":null,"abstract":"The end of Mughal Empire in the wake of War of Independence 1857 left the Muslim community of South Asia political orphans; desperately facing religious and cultural assaults, political as well as economic victimization and marginalization under British Raj. At this time of vulnerability of the Muslim society, it was the educational institutions established by Muslim ideologues which took up the task of strengthening, reforming and revitalizing the Muslim society to cope with the challenges pushing them down to the bottom, they also helped them regain the lost confidence and integrity. These institutions were not merely educational bodies but the movements endeavoring for Muslim renaissance in South Asia. Among them, one was Darul Ulum Deoband which, from its inception to date, played a historic role in confronting the politico-cultural challenges to the South Asian Muslims by adopting dynamic political strategies and accommodating modern structural innovative modifications in the institutions. This, indeed, helped it be a popular movement and achieve its objectives. The present paper goes into some of important historical developments such as: socio-political circumstances which led to the origination of madrasah Deoband, lofty vision and objectives envisaged by its founders, administration of educational-cum-institutional paraphernalia, nationalist stance and struggle for freedom carried out by the Deobandi veterans, strategies and policies it adopted to deal with political challenges faced by the Indian Muslims during British Raj and after partition of India. It explores and discusses the factors which helped this school of thought be popular and become one of the major sects of Islam. Moreover, it also brings in the much debated issue of its stance on jihad, militant struggle and terrorism. By bringing to light the historical developments, vision of its founders, objectives they determined to achieve and strategies they devised to tackle the challenges, the paper argues that the main concern of Darul Ulum Deoband’s activities was and has been to preserve the Muslim culture in South Asia and to restore the confidence of the Muslim community which they lost after the First War of Independence in 1857 and decline of Mughal Empire, and the modernist and innovative strategies it adopted to achieve its objectives, despite the criticism from within and outside, led to it emerging as one of the dominant sects of Islam.","PeriodicalId":38540,"journal":{"name":"Hamdard Islamicus","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87990436","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It uses the literature review method to explain the concept of Political buzzer: Islamic law and its impact on Muslim society. The research employs Documentation technique for the purpose of data collection. For analysis, this study uses Content analysis technique which is described as a form of a narrative review by exploring topics related to political buzzers in Islamic law and its impact on Muslim society. After conducting in-depth research, the paper concludes that it is mubāh (legal) for a political buzzer to promote the ability, expertise of a candidate for leadership or a specific regional head. Meanwhile, the act of political buzzers who create and spread hoaxes, hate speech, and black campaigns are harām (unlawful) and strictly prohibited. The emergence of political buzzers negatively impacts the Muslim community because they often create content in hoax news, black campaigns, and slander against political opponents.","PeriodicalId":38540,"journal":{"name":"Hamdard Islamicus","volume":"46 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90552034","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
