Patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery are characterized by a low BRS even before general anesthesia. These observations provide the basis of the difficulty in detecting the BRS reduction after the induction of general anesthesia in CABG patients. Empirical mode decomposition (EMD) is a technique decomposing the series into oscillatory modes at different time scales. We propose an EMD-based approach to the BRS estimate in 34 patients undergoing CABG. Results showed that the EMD-based method was not able to detect the BRS reduction in CABG patients after the induction of general anesthesia. The negative result was interpreted as a consequence of the inability of EMD-based method to account for HP-SAP causality.","PeriodicalId":385389,"journal":{"name":"2014 8th Conference of the European Study Group on Cardiovascular Oscillations (ESGCO)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116334528","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We compared the values of various HRV measures from different domains to those obtained from high quality fetal magnetocardiographic acquisitions in a similar subject group. The comparison showed significant differences in all domains, in particular in HRV measures which quantify short-term variability. Inspection of the ECG RR interval time series suggested inappropriate identification of R-times. Thus, although fetal heart rate and its overall variance may be accurately determined using such monitors, caution should be taken when assessing short-term HRV.","PeriodicalId":385389,"journal":{"name":"2014 8th Conference of the European Study Group on Cardiovascular Oscillations (ESGCO)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125200519","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We aimed at studying changes in T-wave alternans (TWA) together with Autonomic Nervous System activity during tilt-table (TT) testing before and after five days of -6° head-down bed-rest (HDBR), simulating exposure to microgravity. ECG signals were obtained in 22 males during TT, before and immediately after the end of HDBR, analyzed for multilead TWA detection and spectral analysis of heart rate variability. No differences in TWA indices before and after HDBR were found. However, subjects with lower orthostatic tolerance time after HDBR presented higher TWA values and unbalanced sympato-vagal response to TT already before HDBR.","PeriodicalId":385389,"journal":{"name":"2014 8th Conference of the European Study Group on Cardiovascular Oscillations (ESGCO)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120844811","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
