In this paper, we firstly show that the microphone array system and the proposed aggregated microphone system can be described in the same framework. We then apply the minimum variance method to the method that utilizes the transfer characteristics of the microphones placed at a same location and compare the performance of the proposed method with the microphone array. It is easy to miniaturize the system because all of the microphones are placed at a same location. This feature is considered to be useful in the practical applications. The experimental results obtained in an ordinary room are shown to verify the validity of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":385337,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Eighth International Symposium on Signal Processing and Its Applications, 2005.","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134241269","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the small physical size of these devices, acoustical feedback (howling) is a major problem. Apart from the annoyance and potential hearing damaging effects that howling implies, it also reduces the supplied maximum Real Ear Aided Gain (REAG). This paper proposes a novel method for subband feedback detection and cancellation, based on the zero-crossing rate measure. After splitting the hearing aid input signal into subbands, the distances between subband zero-crossings are measured. A low distance variance in a particular subband indicates that howling has arisen. The variance measure is then used to adaptively and continuously steer subband gain functions which attenuate tonal infested subbands. The method has proven to be robust and simulation indicates that it offers additional REAG of about 15 dB.","PeriodicalId":385337,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Eighth International Symposium on Signal Processing and Its Applications, 2005.","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132694304","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Motion of the parametric human model is generated at run-time using a combination of a keyframe animation technique and the forward kinematics technique. The study is carried out within the framework where the signal sample positions are known but not equally spaced. The scaling basis in this multiresolution approach is generated from quadratic non- uniform B-spline functions. We impose a multiplicity of order three on each sequence knot. We show that the wavelet and the scaling functions, are not deduced from a unique prototype function which is dilated and translated as in the traditional multiresolution scheme. The filter coefficients are not constants any more at different scales. They depend closely on the sample positions on the sequence. This approach can be used to interpolate irregularly sampled signals in an efficient way, by keeping the multiresolution approach.","PeriodicalId":385337,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Eighth International Symposium on Signal Processing and Its Applications, 2005.","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128918082","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

TREN is a two-layered system containing specialized modules that allow a fully interoperable platform including a Turkish speech recognizer, a feature extractor, an end-point de- tector and a performance monitoring module. In order to increase the recognition performance, a Turkish telephony speech database with a very large word corpus is collected and statistically the widest span of triphones representing Turkish is examined. TREN has been used to assist speech technologies which require a modular and a multithreaded speech recognizer with dynamic load sharing facilities. For the complex speech processing systems, a layered ar- chitecture which is a natural outgrowth of the client-server model, could be an effective solution concerning the prob- lems such as lack of scalability and portability. Compared with the traditional client-server model, layered architec- ture of TREN offers a natural way to separate user inter- face from the background of the hard work performed by the recognizer. TREN is composed of two layers: Cen- tral server (CS) constitutes the first layer of the system which is subjected to apply some speech processing rou- tines (feature extraction and end-point detection) to the audio files collected as an input from third party appli- cations. CS is also responsible for the authorization of a remote server (RS) with the least CPU load of the recogni- tion process (LP CP U ) as compared to the other RSs all of which constitute the second layer of TREN. Once this au- thorization is accomplished the selected RS will become ready to serve as a recognizer. This two-layered architec- ture allows RSs work in a parallel and distributed manner. Note that this architecture also gives a flexibility to in- stall or uninstall any number of machines according to the application requirements. TREN supports up to 64 simul- taneous recognitions resembling a 64-channel system.","PeriodicalId":385337,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Eighth International Symposium on Signal Processing and Its Applications, 2005.","volume":"337 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127648513","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A novel watermarking algorithm is proposed for resisting geometric attacks to the images . The algorithm identifies the shape-specific points (SSP) from a watermarked image and uses the SSP to estimate the parameters of the geometric transformations undergone by the image. During the watermark detection process, these transformations are inverted based on the parameters. Synchronization can then be realized, which is crucial for watermark detection. Experimental results show that this watermark algorithm has very strong capability for resisting scaling, rotation, cropping, Gaussian noise, and JPEG compression attacks.","PeriodicalId":385337,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Eighth International Symposium on Signal Processing and Its Applications, 2005.","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115518185","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, these judgments are inaccurate because there are many other factors like conductivity, humidity and viscosity that may affect the oil quality. This paper proposed one theory of monitoring viscosity quality with Neural Network (NN) modelling by introducing factors like temperature, shear stress and pressure. One deterministic objective will be highlighted that is to develop NN modelling based on those three factors. This research also introduces normalization approach called Along Channel and logarithmic function due to various range of data input. NN modelling, an off-line system is explicitly designed with Backpropagation Algorithm and Multilayer Feedforward Network for learning process while its weight is calculated based on Nguyen Widrow number and Genetic Algorithm. There were 310 sample data, which divided into two sets; 149 data for training set and the rest for testing and vice versa. The application performance has achieved up to 85.91% result approaching real viscosity value.","PeriodicalId":385337,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Eighth International Symposium on Signal Processing and Its Applications, 2005.","volume":"59 Pt B 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124408985","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

H.263 and H.263+ standards use fixed Huffman tables regard less of quality, picture format or frame rate. Furthermore, that tables are the same for inter and intra coding, both situations with very different statistics. New Huffman t ables have been generated to code DCT coefficients for VHS quality and low bit -rate video applications that eas ily can substitute the original ones, with efficiency improvements that can reach 8% and 23% in inter and intra frames coding, respectively. They are specially interesting in H.263 and H.263+ applicat ions that need low complexity, for which H.264 could not be a good option. This is the case of the application presented in this communication, called Miravideo, from Telef6nica Spanish company, which transm its audio and video via GPRS using the new Huffman tables.","PeriodicalId":385337,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Eighth International Symposium on Signal Processing and Its Applications, 2005.","volume":"2023 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114501476","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On unique passive geolocation of multiple radio-frequency emitters 多射频发射器的独特无源定位

{"title":"On unique passive geolocation of multiple radio-frequency emitters","authors":"A. Amar, A. Weiss","doi":"10.1109/ISSPA.2005.1581087","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ISSPA.2005.1581087","url":null,"abstract":"We derive necessary conditions for unique geolocation of multiple radio-frequency sources. These conditions iden- tify the maximum number of transmitters that can be lo- cated by multiple passive antenna arrays, often referred to as Resolution capacity (RC). Our derivations extend pre- viously published results in the field of Angle-Of-Arrival (AOA). We show that if each array consists of M elements and there are L arrays, the number of narrowband sources that can be located is (M i 1)L. This number is L times higher than the number of narrowband signals that can be resolved by each array if AOA is used. This observation leads to the conclusion that gelocation by AOA is subop- timal and other methods should be developed that can ex- ploit the information collected by all the arrays together. We also derive similar results for wideband signals. Nu- merical examples are used for demonstration of the math- ematical results. olocation is based on L distinct AOA measurements. The intermediate step of AOA estimation is the main cause of low resolution capacity as well as low accuracy under low signal to noise ratio conditions. According to the max- imum likelihood principle, geolocation should be based directly on the observed signals in all the available arrays. Assume that the emitter location is described by z coor- dinates (z can be 2 or 3). Then, if L > z the number of AOA estimates is larger than the number of emitter co- ordinates. But estimating more parameters than the min- imum needed is associated with accuracy loss. In other words, the AOA approach does not exploit the constraint that all AOA estimates are associated with a single source and thus all line of bearings must intersect. In this work we discuss the observed signals in all the spatially separated arrays together instead of discussing the signals at each array separately. Our observation mod- els agree with most of the models used for narrowband AOA and for wideband AOA. Obviously, one can apply any geolocation technique to the models and this include AOA, TDOA (Time Difference of Arrival) and DPD (Di- rect Position Determination, (6)) or any combination. The observation model lends itself to different assumptions re- garding the propagation channel (known/unknown atten- uation, time dependency, etc.,) the signal structure (Gaus- sian, constant modulus, etc.,) the array configuration (uni- form linear, circular, etc.) and the noise statistics. We derive necessary conditions for model identifiabil- ity based on the requirement that the number of equations should be equal or larger than the number of unknown pa- rameters. We discuss unknown channels, as is common in most geolocation systems and we also discuss known channels for pure academic interest since currently there are no reliable means to measure relative gain and phase between remote sites. As expected, the RC in the case of unknown channel is lower than the RC in the case of known channel.
