In both cities, the modern poster had commercial uses, institutional and political use. The vast number of posters produced during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) is particularly noteworthy.","PeriodicalId":38516,"journal":{"name":"Catalan Historical Review","volume":"13 1","pages":"59-67"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44583918","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We also discuss their settlement in the duchy of Athens in 1311, which later expanded to the duchy of Neopatria, where the Catalans remained a constant presence for more than 70 years. Special attention is paid to the meagre archaeological remains (especially towers and castles) still surviving from that phenomenal adventure in continental Greece, the negative memory this episode has left in Greek folklore, and the conversion of the Almogavar adventurer into a national myth in both Greece and Catalonia, albeit from diametrically opposed positions.","PeriodicalId":38516,"journal":{"name":"Catalan Historical Review","volume":"13 1","pages":"43-58"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68918192","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In 418, they reached a pact (foederatio) which ushered in the period of the Kingdom of Toulouse, located in Aquitaine. Increasing pressure from the Franks led to the Battle of Vouille in 507, which forced the Visigoths to retreat towards the Tarraconensis. Barcinona became the royal headquarters in the first half of the 6th century during the Ostrogoth protectorate, with Kings Gesalec, Amalaric and Theudis. We shall present a summary ofthe impact that the arrival of the Visigoths had on cities like Tarracona, Barchinona and Egara, along with the transformation of the habitat, walled villages and military fortifications, and the gradual abandonment of the Roman villas in light of recent historical-archaeological research.","PeriodicalId":38516,"journal":{"name":"Catalan Historical Review","volume":"13 1","pages":"9-25"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47530805","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The friends of his father, the notary Salvador Dali Cusi, commissioned his first works, which bore the symbols of the Emporda, such as sardanes (the traditional circle dance). Figueres is also where the revolutionary Dali emerged, a close friend of Marti Vilanova and Jaume Miravitlles. And the landscape of the Emporda, with its clear blue sky, is the driver behind his creative works. Referents to Catalonia and the Emporda appear throughout his entire career and become the essence of his oeuvre; today, many of them have become universally recognised thanks to this genius from the Emporda. In this paper, we shall reveal these referents.","PeriodicalId":38516,"journal":{"name":"Catalan Historical Review","volume":"1 1","pages":"73-87"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47363577","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The name Talaiotic culture identifies communities which inhabited small villages dedicated to crop and livestock farming in an autarchic regime whose social development was in the process of hierarchisation. Despite the dissolution of this economic and social structure, contact with the outside world was marked by the strong commercial and political impact of the Punic and Greek colonies, according to the archaeological record.","PeriodicalId":38516,"journal":{"name":"Catalan Historical Review","volume":"1 1","pages":"9-23"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42905589","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
