Rutkowski","doi":"10.33896/porj.2022.3.1","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.33896/porj.2022.3.1","url":null,"abstract":"The aim of this paper is to discuss the major differences and similarities \u0000between the Corpus of Polish Sign Language (KPJM), which has been developed \u0000for a decade by the team of the Section for Sign Linguistics, Faculty of Polish \u0000Studies, University of Warsaw, and corpora of phonic languages (and in \u0000particular the National Corpus of Polish (NKJP)). The KPJM is a general corpus \u0000with an ambition to represent the whole language, used by the Polish Deaf. \u0000Unlike the corpora of phonic languages, which are collections of existing \u0000texts, the material of the KPJM was generated purposefully by recording and \u0000annotating an extensive set of videos. The paper shows that the sign language \u0000corpus should be viewed as analogous to spoken language corpora rather than \u0000to written language corpora. To this end, terms \u0000from the fi eld of ethnolinguistics, in particular linguistic worldview and point of \u0000view, have been applied. The analysis of the texts has revealed a clear opposition \u0000marked by lexemes polski (Polish) and niemiecki (German) and their derivatives \u0000as well as positive evaluation of what is local (Warmian). At the lexical level, \u0000borrowings from German (welować ‘to elect’), dialectal lexis (poszczwać ‘to bait’) \u0000and a signifi cant share of collocations referring to the situation of elections \u0000(odprawiać wiece) can be distinguished. What plays an important role in the \u0000picture of the plebiscite is the language exponents of negative phenomena and \u0000emotions, e.g. acts of violence, feeling of fear. The \u0000metaphor is understood according to the assumptions of the cognitive stream \u0000of linguistics, i.e. as a linguistic means of conceptualising reality, and not \u0000only as a stylistic means. The analyses are aimed not only at describing the \u0000lexical resources of the subjects, but above all at determining the forms of their \u0000thinking and acting. One hundred inhabitants of the Kłobuck county took part \u0000in the survey. A half of them were between 20 and 40 years old, while the other \u0000half were at least 65 years old. The research tool was an interview questionnaire \u0000consisting of four questions. The questions were open-ended in order to decode \u0000the metaphor of land and its crops. Using an \u0000online survey, the contemporary Polish names of the plant have been collected. \u0000The material is composed of 33 names analysed in terms of classifi cation into \u0000variants of Polish, geographical distribution, semantic motivation. A unit used \u0000within a limited geographical area is chleb babajagi, with its centre in Greater \u0000Poland. Originally developed by \u0000Stanisław Dubisz, the concept became a stimulus for establishing the Institute \u0000of Applied Polish Studies at the University of Warsaw and similar units at other \u0000Polish universities.
