With breakthroughs in power electronic systems and electrical machines, the targets of MEA to reduce the aircraft mass and drag, thereby increase fuel efficiency, and reduced environmental impact are gradually realized. To meet the increasing demand of electric power on MEA, an advanced power generation architecture (APGA) is investigated in this article. In the APGA, the engine driven parallel connected generators feed power to a common DC bus, and a back-to-back (B2B) converter is used for electrical power transfer between the engine high-pressure (HP) and low-pressure (LP) channels. APGA has the benefits of increasing compressor surge margin and improving generation center overall performance in the aspects of stability, fault tolerance and power density. The APGA is modelled and built in MATLAB/Simulink environment while validation is performed under several operating scenarios.","PeriodicalId":38493,"journal":{"name":"AUS","volume":"100 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77366343","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These electric aircraft not only comprise a different propulsion system from their conventional market counterparts but also cooling and electrical systems, which can lead to novel aerodynamic solutions. Therefore, the traditional assessment of electric-powered concepts cannot be purely based on aircraft performance parameters inherently influenced by engine type and propulsion system, such as range and/or endurance. Consequently, this paper will focus on developing a new computational tool to compare aircraft performance. This tool introduces an alternative method for comparing aircraft by thoroughly selecting and evaluating characteristic parameters into a cluster of custom metrics, which provide further information and a new perspective into aircraft performance and handling characteristics. Finally, two general aviation aircraft designs, the Evektor SportStar and the Evektor EPOS, are compared against each other. The investigation provides insight into aircraft performance and handling characteristics highlighting both designs' strengths and potential areas for improvement","PeriodicalId":38493,"journal":{"name":"AUS","volume":"40 1","pages":"1-4"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83258288","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The optimization provides both the unit commitment and the optimal power dispatch of all the resources, in order to ensure reliable power supply at minimum cost and with minimum environmental impact. The optimization is performed solving a mixed integer linear programming problem, where the constraints are defined according to the operational limits of the resources when a contingency occurs. The algorithm is tested on a notional all-electric ship where the ship's electrical load is generated through a Markov chain, modeled on real measurement data. The results show that the proposed power management strategy successfully maximizes fuel saving while ensuring blackout prevention capability.","PeriodicalId":38493,"journal":{"name":"AUS","volume":"129 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73241255","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recommender systems play a crucial role in optimizing the recharge process and in providing a better overall experience, as witnessed by a number of solutions presented in the literature. Most of these works, however, focused on minimizing waiting times by suggesting where and when to recharge the EV, leveraging for example historical demand patterns and/or real-time information. In this work, we tackle the problem from the different - and complementary - perspective of suggesting relevant and tailored activities users can perform to make the most out of their EV recharge times. To this end, we present a novel recommender system that leverages open data from the OpenStreetMap project and uses a specifically-trained neural embedding model to capture the semantic relationships between user preferences and nearby available activities and Points of Interest (Pois). The recommender system, whose implementation we make freely available for interested researchers and practitioners, provides personalized recommendations to users based on their preferences and past behaviour. We assessed the effectiveness of the proposal by conducting a study involving real users with different backgrounds, and the results showed that the proposal is effective in providing relevant and personalized recommendations to users, during recharge times.","PeriodicalId":38493,"journal":{"name":"AUS","volume":"37 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89494659","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, maintaining system stability becomes a major challenge in the presence of constant power loads, which exhibit a negative incremental resistance behavior. This work is focused on developing an equivalent linearized model of a DC microgrid, composed by a DC-DC converter used to interface a DC source, such as a battery, with a main dc-bus supplying a constant power load. The state space averaging technique has been employed to develop an unified continuous model of the system under study. The model is then linearized to allow the tuning of regulators and ensuring system stability. Finally, real-time simulations are exploited to validate the proposed methodology.","PeriodicalId":38493,"journal":{"name":"AUS","volume":"265 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76382101","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed converter has inherent constant current (CC) / constant voltage (CV) charging characteristics and is operated only at the resonant frequency. The first harmonic approximation (FHA) technique is used to design the proposed 3.3 kW, 400 V input, 320–420 V output resonant immittance converter. The converter performance at steady-state in charging and discharging operation modes is validated using PSIM simulation. In charging mode, the converter delivers constant current output till the battery reaches the rated voltage. Beyond that, it delivers constant voltage output with decreasing current. The resonant tank is equivalent to CLC-T and CL in CC and CV modes. All the switches attain zero voltage switching in charging and discharging operations. The circulating losses are drastically reduced, which increases the efficiency of the proposed converter as it is operated only at the fixed resonant frequency. As no modulation technique is involved, the complexity of the controller implementation for CC / CV charging is eliminated.","PeriodicalId":38493,"journal":{"name":"AUS","volume":"102 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73689978","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a database of nine hybrid passenger ships for inland transports is built and analysed. The ships are all already operating or under construction. In particular, focus has been made to the increase in lightship weight, quantifying the weights of the hybrid systems including required auxiliary systems fitted onboard. Due to the climate neutrality that is desired to be reached by 2050 through the European Green Deal, the number of sold EV is constantly increasing along with renewable energy sources (RESs) share in local consumption. Due to the increase in EV sales, it is necessary to consider the installation of EV charging systems with a possibility to supply the EV load with RESs. however, the transition from a fossil fuel fleet to a predominantly electric one involves a whole series of problems that must find a solution. First of all the current inadequacy of the charging infrastructure. In all of Europe there are only 226,000 refueling points for electric cars and 7 out of 10 are located in Germany, France and the Netherlands. In this work the operation of a University Campus that has a smart grid composed of RESs and have the possibility to be a prosumer is analyzed along with the situation of using an EV charging system. The use of RESs along with EV and act as a prosumer contributes to the reduction of the pollutant emissions and thus contributes to reaching the target set by the European Green Deal Package.","PeriodicalId":38493,"journal":{"name":"AUS","volume":"8 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79176676","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Currently, one of the greatest challenges in the usage of electric power is in battery charging. In comparison to fossil-fuel-based engines that can be refueled in minutes, the charging of an electric battery can consume considerably more time. Different solutions to energize the electric vehicles have been proposed, however the holistic evaluation of the practical feasibility remains relatively unexplored in different solutions. This paper discusses recent development and key aspects and their impact on heavy transportation logistics. The results illustrate a comparative analysis about different energizing solutions' impact on logistics processes in two supply chain cases. The contribution of the paper allows a holistic view of different charging solutions and their suitability for road logistics supply chains, thus enabling better management of the transformation towards the possibility of using electrified logistics.","PeriodicalId":38493,"journal":{"name":"AUS","volume":"57 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84904608","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
